Team Spuds & Mayo here too. The spud loves the mayo.

The only potato I’m not mad about is a waxy boiled type. Other than that, bring ‘em on!

Im not mad about waxy potatoes either, but that's part of what makes potatoes so great.

There's a spud for everyone.😁

I have Irish parents, so you might assume I’d love potatoes. But I don’t. I think I had my full growing up, so I’d happily never eat one again. My husband however, loves them in all forms.

I have an irish mother, too. Used to having potatoes all the ways, and for special dinners there would be potatoes two different ways.

I still LOVE potatoes. My fav go-to snak will always be a proper jacket potato. My kids love hastle-backs and mash. I always make extra mash for turning into fishcakes or potato fritters, or extra boiled new potatoes to chop up and turn into sauteed or spanish omelettes the next day. They're so versatile, with so many completely different dishes you can make, how could you get bored?

SumUp · 08/03/2026 20:48

I am so pleased to find fellow potato fans. They seem to be unfashionable in some places.

Love rosti and skin on fries.

Give me your most nostalgic potato experience, potatoes that have a time and place in your heart

My mum's potato hash - seasoned with ketchup 😃

This thread feels like coming home and leaving the Land of the Carb Dodgers far behind ...

Are you Claudia Winkleman?

I'm not - I can't pull off a fringe like that - does she not like mash? Sensible woman, if so, it's just so...mushy.

ColinOfficeTrolley · 08/03/2026 21:45

Spuds are fucking fit.

The hairy bikers fondant potato recipe is just to die for.

So decadent and absolutely delicious. Butter, stock, thyme and basically poached omg. I'm salivating

She loves all but mash… she’s obviously not had mine 🤪🤪

I had truffle and Parmesan fries last week in a restaurant . Best thing on the menu. My mother made a hotpot of layered onion and potato topped with streaky bacon or thin cut lamb chops. My comfort food.

FreshInks · 06/03/2026 21:30

Honestly, I think I could just eat a huge bowl of mash from dinner each night and be happy. I might mix it up and have a huge bowl of roast potatoes on some days for a bit of variety.

I also.love mash. Real comfort food.

Mypoorbody · 08/03/2026 22:14

my favourite British comfort food sausage and mash orva jacket potato - could almost just eat it with just salt and pepper.
Jersey royals mmmm

As PP said India has some great potato -,the joy of a masala dosa

Absolutely.

My mum makes a potato pie with spuds, leeks, lardons and creme fraiche. Its gorgeous. And even more delicious reheated with a spoonful of mayo through it.😋

A sandwich shop I frequented many years ago sold this thing that was Bombay potatoes in a crusty white bread sandwich (proper bread though) which was covered in batter and deep fried. Triple carbs! I’ve never been able to find it since!

Kelta · 09/03/2026 17:51

potatoes ❤

MamaBobo · 09/03/2026 18:01

We are having a thai style beef salad for dinner with yesterday’s leftover roast beef. I’ve done all the prep and it looks wonderful….but now I feel sad it has no potatoes…

@BookOfBritishBirds My go to indulgence if I’m dining alone or if I can’t be bothered cooking is a proper baked potato with butter, prawn marie rose and salad. Food of the gods!

Good lord. That sounds AMAZING.

I once shared an office with a middle class woman from London. She was appalled at the idea of a chip butty. 'But it's carbs with carbs' she whined.
Yes, I know. That's the point, and if you do it properly it's two types of fat as well because the bread needs to be buttered.

susiedaisy1912 · 09/03/2026 19:05

Potatoes are my favourite food in the whole world.

Pour French dressing over them when they're still hot. They absorb all the dressing. ❤

Spuds go with everything, so so versatile. We had baked spuds today for lunch with caeser salad on top. I made crunchy bacon and leftover roast chicken to a bag of the salad mix you can buy. Last night we had both roasties and mash with our chicken dinner. This evening was leftover mash on a yorkshire pudding with the remaining morsels of chicken smothered in gravy.

ExquisiteSocialSkills · 09/03/2026 21:26

Mashed potatoes with onions fried in chicken fat mixed in. Very good.

Wow. I can't decide if that's evil or genius.

To be fair, I don't think it's a class issue. I'm pretty middle class I think and love double carbs! Chip butty, dripping with butter, yum.
