Or butter and double cream…

From choice, yes, for me, but if her husband's problem is butter I was trying to find a solution. I'd suggest she separates hers and does it properly!

catin8oot5 · 06/03/2026 23:22

What are those Canadian ones? With the cheese and gravy? Poutine? I make a basic bitch version but am dying to taste them properly

Whataboutboob · 06/03/2026 23:30

Dauphinois 👌when I can be bothered.

Scooped out jackets mixed with bacon lardons, onion, cheese and grilled.

King Edward's roasted in beef dripping.

Conniebygaslight · 06/03/2026 23:31

Love them in all form but my favourites probably are…
Baby potatoes in their skin put in a big dish, plenty of oil, salt & garlic. Oven baked, bloody gorgeous.
Peeled potato skins (with a knife so a bit thicker) fried in butter and garlic
Boiled in skin, tossed with butter & chives.
Mashed with butter & either sour or double cream

TooBigForMyBoots · 06/03/2026 23:36

God I love spuds.🥔🥔🥔

Can you believe we only got them a few hundred years ago? Imagine life without potatoes!😱 Doesn't bear thinking about does it?

DisconnectedDrainpipe · 06/03/2026 23:41

Mash potatoes are my favourite.. l even love frozen mash but got to be a certain brand.. 2nd good old roast potato ( maris piper) . Chips and new potatoes/ baked all come in at number 3.. then of course is scallops/ hasslebacks and gosh... are potatoes so versatile.. love them.!

Wiseplumant · 06/03/2026 23:44

If I was only allowed to eat one food for the rest of my life it would be the potato in all its different forms.

MagpiePi · 06/03/2026 23:51

I think they’re my favourite food.

I’m in Tenerife at the moment, and have discovered Canarian potatoes. I’ll be recreating them as soon as I get home.

Ooh-cooked in seawater and served with mojo….

I love potatoes. They one of my absolute favourite foods. Roast, hasselback, chips/fries, boiled with mint, jacket, I love them all.

Almost. Mash is the waste of a perfectly good spud and I make no apology for this.

Outrageous response 😮good mash is the creme de la creme of tatties

UncannyFanny · 06/03/2026 22:02

I can’t bear them. Can’t roast them to save my life. Not a potato fan at all. Don’t like chips. Don’t like mask. Don’t like jacket. Mash makes me gag 🤮

Burn the witch!!

Are they the same as potato fritters? Sliced potato dipped in batter and fried (yes, I am in Scotland). If so absolute heaven in a buttered bread roll.

that's them. I got them as a kid because the fishcakes* were much more expensive and too big for me. But i will be in Sheffield soon and stuffing my face with fishcakes.

*a proper Sheffield fishcake is a thick slice of potato, an equally thick slice of white fish topped with another thick slice of potato, battered and fried. Fish rissoles are ok, but if i ask for a fishcake, that is what i want. The others taste of bitter disappointment if I'm not expecting that.

YerMotherWasAHamster · 07/03/2026 11:42

One of my favourite meals is cheese boats. Delicious.

Theresalittlebitofwitchinyou · 07/03/2026 11:50

My disgusting guilty pleasure is leftover mash <I absolutely don’t make sure to do too much every time oh noooo> with stuffing and chopped broccoli made into little cakes and done in a drop of bouillon in the skillet. I usually have it with Quorn nuggets to complete my shuffle of shame

Nicecatneighbour · 07/03/2026 12:07

I love potatoes in all forms.
My mum used to make stew (onions, carrots, as much stewing steak as she could afford) and put a LOT of potatoes in it. The potatoes would cook slowly in the stock till they were just on the point of melting. It was so delicious.

NannyOf8Girls · 07/03/2026 13:07

Yum yum

Sheknowsaboutme · 07/03/2026 13:12

I drive 45 mins to buy 20k sacks of potatoes. Totally seasonal, unwashed and bloody lovely! I make homemade chips with them, mash and they roast beautifully.

i also buy my fruit and vegetables from the outlet and they are grown locally. They smell of veg and soil.

rebax · 07/03/2026 13:14

Proper New Potato variety, fresh from the ground, 15min simmer, with butter.😎

ShetlandishMum · 07/03/2026 13:16

I have bought red potatoes for Sunday Roast. Very happy.

Allseeingallknowing · 07/03/2026 13:24

I could live on potatoes ( and chocolate)

I want to eat these very expensive posh potatoes - one after another - as a tasting menu 😂https://e0a09631-8441-4d02-b2f0-f4b1b4de3adc.filesusr.com/ugd/099a59_2cd8ee4431d246f28878f42538450742.pdf

Every time I go to an expensive restaurant I order an extra potato side so I can bring them home in a doggy bag.

Honestly i hate potatoes. I'm from NI and I honestly had potatoes for pretty much every dinner til I left home. It was plain boiled potatoes too. Not even anything nice! I'd had my fill of them for life and rarely eat them.

If you only had boiled potatoes, I can understand that. Try potatoes cooked in different ways and I bet you’d love them now!

You could do all those posh potato dishes yourself. Mash at £7.50? No way!

youbizarrehorse · 07/03/2026 14:08

I love potatoes too. I can eat sooo many. Too much bread and I feel bloated. Pasta is lovely, but needs something with it. As does rice. But potatoes I can eat on their own. I could eat boiled potatoes with just a bit of salt as my whole meal. Like a pp, I’m from NI and ate a LOT of boiled potatoes growing up. But I absolutely love them. And mash, champ, chips, roast potatoes, baked potatoes. Nothing too fancy mind😆
