"had a jacket potato. Warmed me all through. It was like having a little radiator inside me."

This made laugh @HelenaWilson 😀, it's so true though! Potatoes warm you up right through, such a comfort food. I love potatoes❤️

Where do we stand on tinned potatoes? Dp bought a few tins of them for reasons he's never explained other than that they were there, so I've taken to frying them in butter, like mini roasties. Work pretty well.

I saw some SM video about tinned spuds done in the air fryer that came out amazing.

murasaki · 06/03/2026 22:48

No air fryer here, but i might recommended them to FiL if so, as that's his main way of cooking these days, thanks.

Pieceofpurplesky · 06/03/2026 22:48

That crunch of a perfect roastie is my favourite.
sadly Mounjaro ruined my love of mash, dauphinoise and tartiflette --- can't stomach squishy food, weird but I was morbidly obese and am not now!

PinkJ · 06/03/2026 22:50

I've found my people 🥔 ❤️!

I had one of those in Yorkshire for the first time, rather nice but all goodness fried out, ha.

You've reminded me of old school Chinese takeaway chips, chunks of ever-so- slightly raw potato and it really worked.

Yorkshire ones tend to be flatter patties (and not as nice) whereas the Scouse ones tend to be more like a deep fried tennis ball full of sagey goodness in a crispy batter.

BubbleFree · 06/03/2026 22:53

I love potato dishes. I got banned from Netmums after getting into an argument because I bought McCain frozen backed potatoes 🤣

ERthree · 06/03/2026 22:54

Bubble and squeak is heaven on a plate.

Best bit of boxing day.

DH doesn't really like mash. He tolerates it sometimes because I like it but would never choose it.
He's not in tomorrow night, guess what I'm having 😛

BlueEyedBogWitch · 06/03/2026 22:57

I think they’re my favourite food.

I’m in Tenerife at the moment, and have discovered Canarian potatoes. I’ll be recreating them as soon as I get home.

Mine doesn't like butter. I think this is why he thinks he doesn't like mash.

You can make it with olive oil, or milk, although it really needs butter.

Tinned potatoes. Chicken stock made double strength. Marinade potatoes in stock. Toss in oil. Air fry or roast . Delicious!

Ah, in Spain I always go for patatas bravas.

@Brefugee I love a potato scallop! That’s lunch tomorrow sorted.

Are they the same as potato fritters? Sliced potato dipped in batter and fried (yes, I am in Scotland). If so absolute heaven in a buttered bread roll.

Mash with cheese and chives

FuzzyGalgo · 06/03/2026 23:08

Love potatoes. I can't think of one way they're prepared that I don't enjoy. King of vegetables 🥔 🥔 🥔

BrightYellowDaffodil · 06/03/2026 21:34

I love potatoes. They one of my absolute favourite foods. Roast, hasselback, chips/fries, boiled with mint, jacket, I love them all.

Almost. Mash is the waste of a perfectly good spud and I make no apology for this.

Are you Claudia Winkleman?

itsthetea · 06/03/2026 23:12

Mash is the best!
mash and gravy and turnip is the ultimate comfort food

Conniebygaslight · 06/03/2026 23:16

Absolutely love potatoes, but have to have fat with them, whether cooked in it or/and added and therein lies the problem. 🙈🙈

Or butter and double cream…
