Your stomach thinks all potato is mashed.

Luckily I neither taste nor think with my stomach.

OK, I sometimes think with my stomach.

Whoever recommended Poppy cooks Thankyou 🙏 the first video I watched she cooked roasties in clotted cream. Oh my 😍

Brainstorm23 · 06/03/2026 22:27

Honestly i hate potatoes. I'm from NI and I honestly had potatoes for pretty much every dinner til I left home. It was plain boiled potatoes too. Not even anything nice! I'd had my fill of them for life and rarely eat them.

AloAloo · 06/03/2026 22:27

Indians, like the Irish, also excel at potato dishes. It must be something to do with being colonised by rapacious Brits in the 18th and 19th centuries.

I particularly enjoy the Indian devotion to double carbs. I can demolish rice and aloo gobi, or chapati and aloo bhujia. Samosas. Aloo parata. Sag aloo.

I’m in. I’m a massive potato fan, baked, roast, chipped, mashed, dauphinois, new potatoes potato fondant, just bring it on. You can keep your rice and pasta.

murasaki · 06/03/2026 22:29

Sag aloo is up there with my favourites.

AloAloo · 06/03/2026 22:32

Patatas Bravas.

We love the Spaniards too.

Parrlorwarrior · 06/03/2026 22:32

Something I tried last week with some left over mash, add some sr flour until you have a dough, roll it out and cut it into individual cakes. Then bake at 180c until golden. Spread with butter. Bloody lovely.

Honestly, I think I could just eat a huge bowl of mash from dinner each night and be happy. I might mix it up and have a huge bowl of roast potatoes on some days for a bit of variety.

Oh me too! I always cook extra. Love it with butter and cheese!

HelenaWilson · 06/03/2026 22:33

I was out somewhere once on a miserable cold day. Went into a BHS restaurant (RIP) and had a jacket potato. Warmed me all through. It was like having a little radiator inside me.

Baked, chips, roast, love them all. Hash browns and a fried egg.

Potato with skin on, cheese or egg, cheap and filling and nutritious meal.

murasaki · 06/03/2026 22:33

A bit of garlic from a tube goes well in mash....

Parrlorwarrior · 06/03/2026 22:34

I love mash with plenty of cheese and onions, into the oven until bubbling and crispy.

I was in my late 40s before I encountered egg and chips. The combination was extraordinary. Rosemary fries dipped into a golden yolk. Religious experience.

Seeingadistance · 06/03/2026 22:37

Macaroons - mix up mashed potato with icing sugar, roll into balls and cover with toasted coconut!

HelenaWilson · 06/03/2026 22:37

I'm always pleased when I find I've done too much boiled potato, it means I can have the leftovers fried tomorrow.

catin8oot5 · 06/03/2026 22:37

Another vote for Poppy O’Toole. The literal potato queen. Obsessed with her. I love Saturday Kitchen when she’s on. She’s recently had a baby spud

Pabbel · 06/03/2026 22:38

Fgfgfg · 06/03/2026 22:38

Nobody has mentioned...THE SAVOURY
Popular in Liverpool, Hull and a few other places it's a ball of mashed potato and sage, dipped in batter and deep fried. In Liverpool the best ones are from Chinese chippies.

CurlewKate · 06/03/2026 22:40

I made a seriously delicious saag aloo tonight. Dp called it Irish dal. 🤣

Happyjoe · 06/03/2026 22:40

Potato in all shapes and forms is a massive win in my book. I even eat a few chunks raw when peeling them, really nice crunch and slightly sweet. Raw have to be floury main crop spuds, such as King Edwards otherwise not so nice.. My other half thinks am gross, but it's something we all did as kids and still like now.

And mash is amazing for those who don't like. Little bit of extra butter and salt on top of the serving and leftovers for bubble and squeak next day, lovely.

I've never heard of those, but they sound great.

BillieWiper · 06/03/2026 22:41

Ooohhh I adore them.

Really feel obsessed. Though I've been veering towards the sweet variety recently.

Did a Dauphinoise with both sweet and regular and loads of red onions and garlic the other day. That was awesome.

I also adore lidls waffle fries. Or lattice fries I think they call it?! And curly fries 😆

But the humble jacket, wedge, even just fluffy boiled potatoes with plenty of salt and butter are beautiful 😍 😍

I had one of those in Yorkshire for the first time, rather nice but all goodness fried out, ha.

You've reminded me of old school Chinese takeaway chips, chunks of ever-so- slightly raw potato and it really worked.

I can’t bear them. Can’t roast them to save my life. Not a potato fan at all. Don’t like chips. Don’t like mask. Don’t like jacket. Mash makes me gag 🤮

Out. Go on, OUT.
