We were away with my cousin, her husband and her young kids. Two weeks in Florida. One week in a hotel, one week in a holiday home.

When we got to the air BnB it was very much needed after being crammed in a hotel room. It became very apparent however that the walls were paper thin. We heard everything from the open plan kitchen and diner.

The first time it happened dh and I jokingly said sounds like you had a good night. Just to acknowledge we could hear and give the hint to adjust behaviour. They were mortified. But did they stop? No. It was absolutely ridiculous. It’s not like we could hear screaming just the thud sound as the house was very flimsy even by American standards

AIBU in thinking cousin and her husband were being really inconsiderate. I think they’re trying to conceive baby number 4! I just wouldn’t have carried on if it were me.

Well if they are trying for a baby they need to have sex! If it was just the thud sound and not screaming then I would get over it!

Velumental · 04/03/2026 21:59

A married couple had reasonably quiet sex in the holiday home they paid to sue? Not something I could get upset about. You couldnt have coordinated? Taking each other kids out for a couple of hours to allow each of you some couple time?

Jane143 · 04/03/2026 21:59

I’d be mortified and definitely not do it regardless

vincettenoir · 04/03/2026 22:01

They can have sex on their annual holiday.

OhWhatABeautifulDay · 04/03/2026 22:02

They probably thought that without any moans, etc, you couldn't hear them.

Did it make your and your DH feel a bit awkward about your own sex life?

Nofeckingway · 04/03/2026 22:03

I hate the idea that anyone could hear me having sex . Would put me right off . Guess they aren't bothered . If you don't want to hear it can you move to a different room or earplugs . To be fair I admire that they have the energy with three kids to do it two nights in a row .

LollipopLil · 04/03/2026 22:04

It's not really their fault if the walls are that thin and flimsy, is it?

Easterbunnygettingawrapping · 04/03/2026 22:12

If she gets pregnant maybe suggest the baby is named after the holiday destination? What would it be op???

A married couple having sex!? On holiday!? Whatever next!!! Unclench op. Its not like it was performative and she was screaming the place down!!

Easterbunnygettingawrapping · 04/03/2026 22:24

Must be where Mrs Bloom was!!

CrazyCatMam · 04/03/2026 22:26

You and your DH jokingly saying they must have had a good night last night is creepy and weird.

RawBloomers · 04/03/2026 22:30

I'd try and keep it down. But on holiday? I don't think I'd stop.

CoyGoldenKoi · 04/03/2026 22:32

They were having reasonably quiet sex, on a holiday, in a private bedroom, and you think that's unreasonable because the apartment was so flimsy you could hear thudding?

And this is possibly week two of a holiday where they possibly couldn't do anything the first week due to sharing a hotel room with you and/or the kids?

YABVVVU.

They're married, luckily still attracted to each other, and absolutely entitled to make the most of their limited holiday time. Regardless of whether they are trying to conceive or not.

FryingPam · 04/03/2026 22:34

I think keeping it down is the right thing to do, and it looks like that’s what they did. YABU to expect celibacy.

Arlanymor · 04/03/2026 22:37

You were rude to them to start with.

50Balesofgrey · 04/03/2026 22:44

I'd love to be so horny that I didn't care. Been decades since I felt like that 😆

BlackCat14 · 04/03/2026 22:58

I don’t really know what’s “absolutely ridiculous” about being able to hear the thud of the bed. They’re on holiday, good for them, it’s not a huge deal.

BauhausOfEliott · 04/03/2026 22:59

The first time it happened dh and I jokingly said sounds like you had a good night.

Bit creepy of you to say that.

give the hint to adjust behaviour.

‘Adjust their behaviour’?! They’re adults doing a normal adult thing. You can’t tell other adults not to have sex. It’s not their fault the house was shit.

It was absolutely ridiculous. It’s not like we could hear screaming just the thud sound

What’s ’absolutely ridiculous’? A couple having entirely non-vocal sex in their own room? You only heard the bed.

I think most couples in you and your DH’s situation would just laugh between themselves and say nothing.

AIBU in thinking cousin and her husband were being really inconsiderate.

YABU. What would be inconsiderate is the expectation that a grown adult couple would refrain from sex in their own room just because you and your DH can’t cope with hearing a bed rattle.

OSTMusTisNT · 04/03/2026 23:01

I would be cringing especially if kids can hear them too.

Can you put a TV on to block them out?

CactusSwoonedEnding · 04/03/2026 23:02

If they weren't screaming or cussing in the throes of passion then that's all the consideration needed really. I don't think you need to be shielded from the information that this couple have sex with each other nor is it reasonable to expect them to be celibate on holiday in order to protect your delicate sensibilities.

NotDarkGothicMama · 04/03/2026 23:02

I'd take care to be reasonably quiet but DH would get stage fright and insist on celibacy. I'd then hate you for the rest of the holiday.

Tink3rbell30 · 04/03/2026 23:10

Yep, don't know how they can be in the mood while in such close proximity to other people who can hear.

Aussiesgettingsmashed · 04/03/2026 23:16

You should have gone full Meg Ryan back to them.

Chinsupmeloves · 04/03/2026 23:19

I would be quieter
