Please include photos/rightmove links so I can judge your tastes!

Me - I am watching Owning Manhattan, planning my life after winning £100,000,000 (I dream modestly) - and would live in a NY skyscraper!

Oooh that's wonderful. I would have to change the kitchen but it's very beautiful.

That's true. They spent so much money on the house and then the kitchen is just so meh?!

TheNinkyNonkyIsATardis · 04/03/2026 16:57

The same place I plan to live (Lake District), but a nicer house, not too big, 5-6 beds. A housekeeper to sort it out when I go on my numerous holidays.

I'm not too fussed about a grand mansion, I'd rather have somewhere modest and homely for when I get back.

Holiday house. Wouldn't live full time (city girl) but a castle for parties and adventures. Yes please. I'd keep the entrance hall with the suits of armor and things and then make all the bedrooms and bathrooms really modern and nice like a boutique hotel.

I'm home to be needing more than one property. So I believe we'd do as follows;

Main family home, near our existing home and community https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/171114656

Highland retreat https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/172621793

Cornish holiday home https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/161787467

Then maybe a place in the south of France, and one in Colorado for skiing? The alps are closer but easier to get extended family together in Colorado.

I'm gonna need a bigger lottery prize tbh.......

To a detached 5 bed with some land, within 10 miles of where I already live. Then I'd spend the rest of the money buying lots of fields for sale to stop yet more useless estates going up.

Are homes for people useless?

BlueEyedBogWitch · 04/03/2026 17:07

Villa in Adeje for winters.

A townhouse in the west end of Glasgow for summers.

The house I live in now for the rest of the year.

😄 here's hoping I win first and then you next!

Care to share the rightmove link?

Sure, this is the place. It needs a custodian, and I’m just right for the job.
Wouldn't make many changes, it needs a new and better quality conservatory, new kitchen, there’s a conspicuous lack of bathroom pics that makes me suspect at least one avocado suite, and a bit of upstairs rejiggring to make fewer bedrooms and some bigger en-suites/dressing rooms. Maybe a bit more insulation, new heating system, and the secondary double glazing looks a bit old. I’d love to give it a very sympathetic renovation, I’d happily chuck another £500k at it.

I think about this a lot 😁 I will buy a house in Belgravia, I will have a driver who will take me to Heathrow or Battersea Heliport for my holidays. I will also have a home where I can see the sea, maybe Southwold or Walberswick.

tutugogo · 04/03/2026 17:18

I’m not sure I would move, but I’d buy a nice villa in Portugal plus squander huge amounts on luxury holidays. (If my dc are lucky I might buy them a house and car each, see how I’m feeling 😁)

Waitingfordoggo · 04/03/2026 17:19

I’m not sure I’d move to be honest. I live about 500m from the beach in a detached four bed house with a big garden. I wouldn’t want a house any bigger than this one because that would mean even higher council tax, more maintenance, many more hours spent cleaning.

What I would do though is spend a big chunk on the house to get it exactly how we’d like it.

RobinEllacotStrike · 04/03/2026 17:24

I wouldn't want to own any other properties - too much work. I'd just rent lovely villas etc, and book into fancy hotels when I wanted to travel/holiday

KimberleyClark · 04/03/2026 17:25

I wouldn’t want to move from my area. It’s incredibly convenient yet quiet,we have great neighbours and friends nearby, I love it. I’d do up our house to within an inch of its life, perhaps add a loft conversion, or if a larger extended house came on the market in our area, maybe buy it.

igelkott2026 · 04/03/2026 17:28

Jersey would be nice and if you have a few million to spend you can bypass their residency restrictions eg here: https://www.broadlandsjersey.com/property/creux-du-rocher/

But ideally I'd like an EU country with a golden visa (though I think they're gradually getting rid of those).

this has been on the market a while so i reckon there's a deal to be done! 6 bedroom detached house for sale in Inverleith Place, Inverleith, Edinburgh, EH3

Ooh I like this. Edinburgh would be my place of choice (love London, NY and Berlin but practically I would have friends here) but I couldn’t find anything on Rightmove that floated my boat enough to be classed as a dream home. A New Town townhouse or Quartermile penthouse would be lovely, but like the space here and proximity to Botanics.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 04/03/2026 17:39

Cap Ferrat.

Probablyshouldntsay · 04/03/2026 17:54

Im afraid I can’t bring myself to post the link 😂I’m too terrified someone will steal it off me. It’s a very modest 3 bedroom bedraggled cottage that is only accessible on foot, down a private road.
However, if you walk around the side of the house to the back garden you find it opens out into a huuuuge back garden, wild flowers everywhere and a lovely sundial right in the centre. The end of the garden drops down into a private beach, from which you can watch the yaughts pull in to the next town overs’ quay.
It has natural beehives in its dilapidated dove house, and there’s a stray sheep and her lambs who have escaped there from a nearby farm and now live there full time.
It’s been empty for about 40 years and I visit it very early in the morning ☺️

cupfinalchaos · 04/03/2026 18:03

On my own yacht with crew travelling the world with family and friends hopping on and off. Failing that a house on the water in Miami with a boat for day trips to Bahamas.

BeagleSkunk · 04/03/2026 18:33

ChequerToRed · 04/03/2026 15:14

I’d love to win asap, because my ideal house is 30 mins away from me and has been on the market about 18 months already. Nobody seems to want it, probably because the location is a bit odd and it needs some updating. Build in the 1830s as a summer bolt hole for the then Bishop of Bath & Wells. It comes with two extensive natural cave systems (one containing the bones of many ice age animals) and there’s follies in the grounds that are Grade 2 listed. There’s also a few acres of ancient woodland where my DH could have his long desired ‘shack in the woods’ as well as garage and workshop space. It’s perfect for us, not too big, and has the large formal drawing room I’ve long hankered for.

I’ve just phone googling for this, it’s lovely!

Getamoveon2024 · 04/03/2026 18:47

Exactly where I live now. We’ve recently moved and we are knocking shit out of the house and have a mortgage that would make most on here weep 🤣🤣 I’d finish the work, pay off the mortgage and stay. I love it here 🥰

BeagleSkunk · 04/03/2026 18:33

Isn’t it great? Alas, the M5 is a bit close by, but it’s down a deep cut so I’m willing to overlook that.
There's no pics of the caves themselves in the agent’s listing, but you’ll see them if you google Banwell Bone Cave and Stalactite Cave. The Bone Cave even comes with a pair of mastodon tusks, and there’s a charming building in the grounds called the Osteocon that houses a lot of them like a private mini museum.
I love the idea of owning a couple of caves, and I’d allow a limited number of interested parties to visit them on prior arrangement, and maybe do Open Doors Day, but they’d need to sign a very watertight waiver first. If a rock falls on your head, it’s not my responsibility. Bring your own hard hat.

Funnily enough I was thinking about this the other day. I like where I live, have got nice neighbours, sea view and have never had any trouble whilst living here. TBH I don't know if I would actually move.

I'm the same I love our house and where we live so the medium term we would stay where we are :)

ThatPearlkitty · 04/03/2026 18:57

same place, but then id have a second place to use as and when needed
