I am terrified that our next government is going to be a Green and Labour coalition. As if the current shit show are not bad enough.

Edited

Labour won't form an alliance with the Greens, in their current form.
The Greens are a good example of a Left leaning group which has swung to the right. Embracing policies of wealth distribution and supporting the workers, but riddled with antisemitism, misogyny and intolerance.

MyOpalCat · 04/03/2026 13:12

It's a new low in a cynical world to not believe the rape victims on 7/10/23.

I don't think it even that they don't belive them - it's that they find it politically inconvenient and really just don't care.

There is pleanty of evidence Hamas used rape and sexual violience against Jewish women as well as killing unarmed people.

At same time Isreal bombed and killed a civilian population - more skewed to children - as collective punishment and for poltcial conveinece and land grab and commited a war crime.

As in many conflicts nether side has clean hands and both try and ignore and justify the unjustifable.

Most parties on Left in UK are weak on women's rights - which doesn't mean the right or Reform are appealing either. Voters are looking at local and national issues as well as world events and weighing up polices and actual candiates as well as the wider party and decide what they care about most.

She an idiot for saying it so publically as it may well cost her party votes - but it's sadly not an uncommon view on left. It how the grooming gangs went uninvestgated for so long politically inconvenient to beleive the UK victims and investigate.

Can you explain the math again? 50% + 21% = 71%
is that right?

Edited

No, it’s not exact as there are mixed people etc.

But 21% of Israelis are Arab, and about 73-76% of Israelis are Jewish; of these, just under half are Mizrahi Jews and just under half are Ashkenazi Jews.

The remainder of the total population are various minority groups, and foreign or foreign descent spouses etc.

OrangeAxolotyl · 04/03/2026 13:01

Absolutely. The level of ignorance surrounding Israel really is astonishing.
Someone on another thread thought that Gaza had been occupied by the Israelis since 1948!
I said "look up Egyptian military occupation"!
Such idiocy!

They also don’t seem to realise that Egypt are in control of part of Gaza’s border!

Minervano1 · 04/03/2026 13:16

Is there any evidence Abi Wilkinson said these things (apart from a Daily Mail article telling us she did)?

Yes, I had a look and you can see the tweet. Also it's been reported by other outlets.
I've yet to see a denial or a response from the Greens.

Antisemitism? Oh behave.

Polanski is actually jewish ffs.

OrangeAxolotyl · 04/03/2026 13:20

Joani Reid MP has called for Abi Wilkinson to be sacked by Zack Polanski following these remarks.

It’s not quite accurate to say they bombed Gazan civilians as a collective punishment; it was a war with Hamas in an extremely densely populated area, that Hamas started and could have stopped at any time by agreeing to peace deals (such as returning hostages), which they repeatedly refused.

War is terrible, immoral and should be avoided at all costs, but this war wasn’t a genocide, nor any worse than other wars.

Ffs - how can there be 12% who support this dangerous nonsense? Words fail me and they should be ashamed for being so so stupid!!
Beggars belief!!!

Ah this old chestnut... you can't tax billionaires because they'll just leave.

A myth perpetrated by ( you guessed it ) Billionaires themselves.

The Duke of Westminster is worth over £10bn. He owns massive chunks of Mayfair and Belgravia.

Tell me how he's going to take that with him if he leaves the country?

As his properties will reside in a trust or company structure I am guessing he could simply off shore his company hq. In the same way that Nissan does - I.e own car factories here but doesn’t HQ its company out of Japan.

we have plenty of billionaires who choose to stay here. But I don’t particularly like policies which might encourage them to leave.

Regardless of your political alignment, do you think what she said is justified? Why else would you want her comments buried? I couldn't care less where the media source comes from, her tweets are her own.

The commited war crimes by bombing a civailan population.

We had a prolonged comflict with the IRA - it wasn't suddenly okay to carpet bomb Belfast or just the catholtic districts till they gave up the terorists. Bloody Sunday was rightly condmned when unarmed civillans were shot - and justice has been elusive but at least sought.

Hamas is clearly a terorist organisation and is rightly sought and condemded by the world - but Israel bombed a civaillan population and seek to justify that with a seriously weak poistion - it's disgusting.

OrangeAxolotyl · 04/03/2026 13:36

If the Green Party don't want to ally themselves with misogyny, antisemitism and intolerance, they really need to speak up and speak out.

Although it was at 14% this morning, so I guess it’s something.

Indeed. Many of us have said that throughout the thread. It seems terrible that this group of women are not believed by the spokesperson for the Green Party.
I hope sensible Greens speak out.
