Thank you @OrangeAxolotyl it is heartening to have voices like yours and @LucyWestenra to balance the rampant anti semitism on here and elsewhere. Most grateful to you x

Please hear my voice too. 100% support for you, coupled with deep distress and revulsion at the shocking anti semitism we seem to see more and more. I had a dear friend who died a couple of years ago, before his time. He was Jewish and the only small plus to his death (if I can say that) is that he did not live to see the revolting attitudes so prevalent today.

Thank you @Andouillette . That is very kind of you. I was with a friend today and we both said our parents would never believe what is going on today.

It's awful. I never thought people would deny the atrocities of Oct 7th, yet here we are. 💐

How?

Because I say I don't agree with you?

You are the one hurling personal attacks, not me.

You’ve had a post deleted so aren’t being as polite as you seem to think.

Joani Reid has her own problems. Some of this may be virtue signalling to deflect from these. She has a habit of flip flopping depending on her audience. She did nothing at all for women when she was a Lewisham councillor. Very TWAW. Then suddenly she plays at being a feminist. She is very ambitious and presumably sees mileage in knocking some nutty green.

Edited

Still, she’s got it right on this occasion saying Abi Wilkinson should be sacked as she discredits the Green Party. Unless the leadership of the party agrees with her stance which is all I can assume since they aren’t commenting on it.

Left wing groups all seem.to support Palestine and Hamas and be against Israelis. It doesn't suprise me at all.

I’m pleased you know every left wing person including my Jewish family who definitely don’t support Hamas but equally don’t support Israel, like many Jews…

Look, the Greens have clearly cocked up here and need to rectify it but I’ll say it again, an antisemitic party wouldn’t elect a Jewish leader.

That's the point, really.

Just checked the vote so far @LucyWestenra

635 people have voted so far and 88% say YANBU

Good to see 😀

It's awful. I never thought people would deny the atrocities of Oct 7th, yet here we are. 💐

I never thought I’d see people defend the genocide in Gaza ( and yes it is a genocide ) as a ‘ legitimate defence against terrorism ‘ but here we are too.

Do you ever ask yourselves why progressive people criticise Israel? Or is it all just antisemitism as far as you’re concerned?

I think you have the wrong person.
I have never defended any genocide.
The topic of this thread is the issue of the Green Party spokesperson and those claims, which has been my concern and my focus.

Polanski may be Jewish by birth right but he openly hates Israel therefore to my mind Jews who live there. Sadly there are others like him e.g. Noam Chomsky (recently discredited through the Epstein files) Ilan Pappe, Peter Beinart, etc.
I'm sad about your family's views.
If anything shows that Jewish people need their own country it's what's been happening to us in the in the UK, Australia, Canada, USA, France etc since 7 October.
Finally, people may be anti Zionist (something I will never understand) but if a Satan like Hitler was to rise again we would all be classed as Jews, however tentative our familial link. Shalom.
Sorry for deflecting from the title of the thread @LucyWestenra

It has not been ruled a genocide no matter how often you repeat it. Progressive Jews? Like the ones I mention above? Give me a break.

Whether it’s ruled a genocide or not is immaterial. It was - and remains - appalling behaviour by Israel.

Unless you think the IDF were handing out teddies and sweets to the children in Gaza?

Of course it's material if people keep on bandying the word genocide about!
A poster on another thread has quoted that 5% of the Gazan population has died during the war (don't know where she got that statistic). That is not a genocide however appalling you find Israel defending itself from countless rocket and terrorist attacks in the 20 years Hamas has ruled Gaza.

I don't deny for a minute that Hamas has conducted many terrorist actions over the years. Including the atrocities on Oct 7th.

What I find reprehensible is that you - and so many others on here - find it accept to diminish Israel's actions in this conflict. Your bias is obvious.

Israel has been waging war against Palestine since 1947. Not just the 1948 Nakba, but illegal settlements in Palestinian land, illegal detentions of Palestinian citizens, and many other human rights violations. The genocide in Gaza is just the latest - and most visible - chapter in a long history of Israeli brutality.

Oh, and by the way - death toll Oct 7th: 1,195. Death toll in Gaza: est. 75,000.

HappyFace2025 · 05/03/2026 09:06

Don't @ me with comparing number of deaths.
I make no secret of my 'bias'. As a Jewish woman whose maternal family died in concentration camps I will always be a Zionist.
That doesn't make me complicit with the Right wing government but since 7 October 2023 it has rudely been brought home both to me and the majority of the Jewish diaspora that we need Israel now, more than ever. There will always be people (including Jews) who will deny us that homeland.

HappyFace2025 · 05/03/2026 10:51

@IcyPlumShaker death toll 7 October 1195 doesn't include those who were taken hostage and died during captivity.
Gaza death toll has yet to be verified and covered from 8 October 2023 until the current ceasefire. Many innocent people died. It's a war.

I don't want to deny the Jewish people the right to exist, or a place to exist in. I firmly believe in a two-state solution - including a happy, prosperous, and peaceful Israel and a happy, prosperous and peaceful Palestine.

I just find the bias on this thread astounding. People seem to be happy to call out Hamas for their atrocities, yet unwilling to call out Israel for its actions in Gaza - that's just hypocrisy.

Even if you include the hostages taken on Oct 7th, that's still fewer than 2,000 casualties caused by Hamas. Israel has killed more than 30 times that number in Gaza. But no, let's make it all about Oct 7th, and how awful that was...

For example, I'm British. I can look back at the history of my country and see the many good things that Britain has done ( fighting fascism, ending slavery etc ) and the many bad things too ( colonialism, role in the slave trade, concentration camps etc )

Try looking at things without bias, and you might find people less willing to criticise you.

We all have bias including you so it's a bit rich to be lecturing other people about it. Many people who you would say are biased in Israel's favour HAVE criticised Israel for certain things that happened during the war. At least @HappyFace2025 is honest about her bias and has very good reasons for supporting Israel. It's almost impossible to look at things like Gaza without bias and you are not immune to it either.

We all have views on the Gaza and Iran war and we all get criticised for them on occasion. That isn't because we are wrong to express our opinions it's because wars are always highly controversial.

HappyFace2025 · 05/03/2026 12:01

@IcyPlumShaker you make good points but I have already stated that I don't support the right wing government in Israel even though neither I nor anybody else has come up with an alternative action against Hamas after 7 October.
That date remains the one where the highest number of Jewish people have been killed since the Holocaust and unleashed the huge amount of antisemitism (because Israel!) when those of us in the diaspora have no jurisdiction where the Israeli government is concerned.
Jews have faced hostility and anti semitism (including on MN on the CITME board) not seen before in my long lifetime. It has shaken many of us to the core.
So I will always be in the side of Jews everywhere, including Israelis. I am very grateful to those non Jews (and fortunately there are plenty of them ❤️) who stand with us 🙏

I don't have bias about this. I've said - consistently, I think - that Hamas have committed awful atrocities, including Oct 7th.

Honestly though, listening to some of you on this thread, you'd think the IDF were a bunch of misunderstood tree-hugging hippies going into Gaza with daisy chains and sweeties rather than bombs and rifles...

Wars are highly controversial, yes. But you can be wrong about them too. It's not either/or.

Fair enough. And to be clear, I don't condone anti-semitism of any kind. I'm sorry if you've experienced this on mn, or elsewhere.

Have a good day.

HappyFace2025 · 05/03/2026 12:05

FFS @IcyPlumShaker 'misunderstood tree hugging hippies'? Could you get any more insulting? The Israeli army has been fighting a war begun by terrorists who have avowed to wipe Israel out.
