To think Keir Starmer has set us up to be the target of war strikes?

He's a dick.

OP posts:
Ginmonkeyagain · 02/03/2026 07:27

War strikes? How much range do you think Iran's drones have?

KimberleyClark · 02/03/2026 07:27

War strikes from whom?

Mosman2020 · 02/03/2026 07:28

Terror attacks more like.

Mosman2020 · 02/03/2026 07:29

it’s already started on FB and LinkedIn. The suggestion that the poor old man was a cuddly grandad and that the US shouldn’t be celebrating the fact that they have humiliated some elderly statesman and murdered him in cold blood and that he should be avenged.

Changingplace · 02/03/2026 07:30

Mosman2020 · 02/03/2026 07:28

Terror attacks more like.

Agreed, much more likely that the terror threat will rise significantly.

Ginmonkeyagain · 02/03/2026 07:30

Yeah that is much more likely, but TBH I think that is already baked in whatever we do in terms of allowing the US to use our airbases

CharlotteRumpling · 02/03/2026 07:30

Terror attacks yes.
War strikes no.

LittleMidlander · 02/03/2026 07:31

I think he has set us up for more homegrown terrorist strikes.

Firetreev · 02/03/2026 07:31

We have been an enemy of Iran since the revolution, also they have no hope in hell of striking the UK. Laying this at the feet of Starmer really is ridiculous!

Ginmonkeyagain · 02/03/2026 07:32

Also is everyone here under 30 or something? We've been here before (many many many times) with the middle east. Not once were there "war strikes" on the UK.

Terrorism committed by UK residents (and often citizens), yes.

Browharhar · 02/03/2026 07:32

Agree with PP. More likely terror attack, supply chain disruption and cyber attack. We've seen an attack by an Iranian proxy, Hezbollah, on a UK base in Cyprus, the UK has to respond to that or look vulnerable. I think the position that we will not attack but will firmly defend ourselves is a good one.

MushMonster · 02/03/2026 07:35

Nope.
If you mean our bases in ME, those were already a target.
But if you mean UK iself, no, no way.

Lambington · 02/03/2026 07:35

YABU. Only one person has made the UK less safe in the past 48 hours. Donald Trump.

AgnesX · 02/03/2026 07:36

It would have happened regardless of who was in government. The US is part of NATO and using British airfields would be a given.

This statement is politics IMO.

Carlie97 · 02/03/2026 07:25

He's a dick.

No, don't be ridiculous.

Blair was called a war criminal for getting us involved in Iraq, now Starmer is a dick and a coward for not getting us involved in Iran.

For RW it appears a Labour PM can't ever be correct.

I agree with PPs - We've been here before, and Starmer is doing the right thing. He's responded to an attack on UK forces, but he's not gone on the offensive.

Every EU nation is just as vulnerable as us to terror attacks.

Edit spelling

noblegiraffe · 02/03/2026 07:37

Iran has been attacking us for years.

Itstartedinbarcelona · 02/03/2026 07:38

Yep part of the let’s blame Keir Starmer for everything campaign.

MyTrivia · 02/03/2026 07:40

This. Britain is no friend of the Iranian regime and never has been.

Araminta1003 · 02/03/2026 07:41

Hmm there is dissent in a democracy which is tolerated. However, if there were ever all out war then there is the concept of treason and all sorts so all the people getting too excited especially if dual national, I would always be careful what I say online now, including in Britain. That’s my two pennies worth.

MushMonster · 02/03/2026 07:42

Terror attacks are a heavy possibility, but we may actually be safer at present. Iran would not want to add fuel to the fire and actually get Europe or UK on the offensive.
I would be worry about terror attacks if a war of attricion follows.
Iran + Russia would be keeping our intelligence and police rather busy.

But I 100% agree with previous poster. This is Trump's making. Starmer did not start any war.

Dragonflytamer · 02/03/2026 07:46

I don't see why we are going anything. Every anti drone missile we fire costs us over £300,000.

We should not be associating ourselves with US/Israeli war mongering. Imagine the US outrage if the Iranian's had assassinated Trump.

Are you sure it's not Iran's making?

A mural of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is seen on the side of a building in Azadi avenue with reams of Iranian national flags hanging in the foreground, in Tehran on 11 February 2022.

UK faces rising and unpredictable threat from Iran, report warns

A wide-ranging report by an intelligence committee has set out the risks Iran poses to the UK.

MidnightPatrol · 02/03/2026 07:48

I pity the British people being held in prison there.

Heyhelga · 02/03/2026 07:50

We would have been targets anyway. They see the UK and US as one double team. I saw somewhere a protest/mourning in Tehran over the weekend a banner and it the UK flag alongside the US and Israel flag.
