To think Keir Starmer has set us up to be the target of war strikes?

He's a dick.

OP posts:
Chersfrozenface · 02/03/2026 08:35

OP, you do know Nigel Farage and Kemi Badenoch have backed Donald Trump’s strikes on Iran, don't you?

He’s a lame duck. Rolling over to USA and Israel again.

According to reports Iran were weeks away from having nuclear capability. In that event we would be just as much a target as anyone else, so it was in our interests to help out. Unless you think it’s acceptable that we allow others on the world stage to do our dirty work for us and we just accept the benefits ?

I did until this week.
I now pity British-Iranians who went there to see dying mums, and actual Iranians.

Selective compassion. Nice.

SeaGlassDreamer · 02/03/2026 08:43

Feels like we are damned if we do and damned if we don’t.

I’ve seen some politicians calling for us to play a bigger role in the war and saying that we are weak because we aren’t doing so. I’ve seen other politicians calling our Government weak for not condemning the US. There used to be a time when politicians on all sides would stand together publicly in situations like this and disagree privately. Those days are long gone and it’s no surprise the country is as divided as it is.

The UK had to take a side, of course it had to be this one.

Nope. That’s all you I’m afraid. Different thread, different topic. I speak as l find. My compassion lies with the innocents caught up in the conflict, however that came about. What’s happening now is about what divides us. Why create even more division with top trumps ?

They have been weeks or months away for years or even decades. They were days away from agreeing to give up stockpiles of enriched uranium - it was on the table for the first time ever. Also don't forget that Khamenei was actually strongly against nuclear weapons for religious reasons, placing a fatwa on them. If he was a devout Muslim, which we assume he was, then a pretend fatwa just to trick the West would be blasphemy - is that likely?

War strikes from whom?

Iran has allies who have the capability to reach several UK bases

Yep. Definite echoes of the 'dodgy dossier' and non-existent chemical weapons before the second Gulf War. We can't know for sure, but I'd be very surprised if this were true.

I think to answer that question we have to ask ourselves why they have stockpiles of enriched uranium if they are religiously opposed to the use of nuclear weapons.

Netanyahu was first recorded saying that Iran were 'weeks away' in 1995. Unless weeks means decades in Israel it's safe to say that the man with a warrant out for his arrest for war crimes and crimes against humanity who is leading the charge on this illegal war is full of shit.

I’m sure that the country that just murdered 35,000-odd of its own civilians is totally trustworthy when it comes to international negotiations.

Devout Muslims wouldn’t murder innocent people after all Hmm

EmeraldShamrock000 · 02/03/2026 09:12

The risk of retaliation is huge. I would blame DT before KS.
The propaganda machines have been working overtime, online mouth pieces breeding hate, concerned citizens terrified, it’s a disaster.

Araminta1003 · 02/03/2026 09:14

There are loads of Iranian and Russian bots all over the internet trying to stir people up, including Muslims here who may be upset (who make for easy targets to manipulate). I would be extremely careful if I were eg a dual British Pakistani or just had indefinite leave to remain from any other country.

UK will be doing what France and Germany does which is absolutely right and they will be working with their allies.
All people should be careful to not make themselves enemies of the state, and yes, it includes eg naive students voting for the Green Party who may just be trying to buy votes. But that can come at a cost.
Look if there were WW3 why would you possibly put yourself out there online and be a massive prick about it.

The reports came from US weapons experts and the IAEA. They didn’t say Iran was weeks away from building a viable nuclear weapon, but that it’s weeks away from securing enough fissile material for an eventual weapon - in other words the capability to enrich uranium to 90%. According to the IAEA, Iran is the only non-nuclear-weapon state in the world that is producing and accumulating uranium enriched to 60% and stockpiling it to levels far beyond what is needed for civil use.

Another observation I made was this is all down to MEN. You don't see women planning to inflict suffering and killing innocent civilians through war much.

Are you 15?

Thats a puerile observation.

If you want to look at this in terms of men/women perhaps you might want to consider how subjugated women are in Iran...

Then perhaps you could consider whether women are more or less sympathetic to their plight, and whether women's solution to that problem (whatever that might be) would be more or less effective.

I give you no answers. I kinda hope you might learn to be less one-dimensional in your thinking.

Also is everyone here under 30 or something? We've been here before (many many many times) with the middle east. Not once were there "war strikes" on the UK.

Terrorism committed by UK residents (and often citizens), yes.

I grew up in the 70s. Nothing here scares me.

Sorry, but it was Trump and Netanyahu who started it, yet again, after abandoning negotiations, yet again.
If anything further was going on behind the screens, I do not have access to it. So ask the pertinent guys.

Netanyahu gave a press conference saying he has been waiting 40 years to destroy Iran like this. Netanyahu is a war criminal who needs to be locked up.

Netanyahu is a tyrant. Trump is his puppet. Use your words not your weapons, or you’ll get hurt too.
Toddler stuff.
Iran is a horrible country with a warmongering government who hates their citizens, I’m not surprised they are retaliating with force.

It's the most dangerous situation when you have two leaders who believe that they are fighting for their "god".
