I pity the British people being held in prison there.

Iranians dead or dying or at risk- including children- and you pity the Foremans who went there of their own accord, when warned not to?

BerryTwister · 02/03/2026 07:52

Ginmonkeyagain · 02/03/2026 07:27

War strikes? How much range do you think Iran's drones have?

Terrorist attacks.

BeanQuisine · 02/03/2026 07:53

Yes, YABU.

sundayvibeswig22 · 02/03/2026 07:53

He’s a lame duck. Rolling over to USA and Israel again.

AgnesX · 02/03/2026 07:36

It would have happened regardless of who was in government. The US is part of NATO and using British airfields would be a given.

This statement is politics IMO.

Funny how Trump wants to use his NATO benefits now, having been prepared to scrap the whole thing when he wanted to invade Greenland!

Untailored · 02/03/2026 07:57

Like it or not, the US are our long-term allies and we always cooperate with them for military purposes. We have a long history of sharing intelligence and letting them use our bases. Nothing risky or controversial about it.

Yes, why wouldn’t you pity them?

Its not a competition as to whose situation is most miserable.

I did until this week.
I now pity British-Iranians who went there to see dying mums, and actual Iranians.

It’s nothing new, but there’s no doubt it makes us a target for terrorist attacks. There’s no question that our risk will have increased, and I imagine all UK police forces are putting in place whatever their “higher than average alert” processes are.

Thanks for that striking piece of political analysis. Maybe read a little, educate yourself and think about the bigger picture.

CloudPop · 02/03/2026 08:05

So it’s Keir Starmer’s fault that the US bombed Iran ?

Dragonflytamer · 02/03/2026 08:07

It was only a few weeks ago Trump was saying the UK did nothing in Afghanistan. Why are we now giving the orange one use of our airbases for what is clearly a illegal attack?

Dollymylove · 02/03/2026 08:10

Its highly that the UK will be attacked. Not if but when. This has been on the cards long before the Iran strikes.
There are so many people currently holed up in hotels whom we have NO IDEA who they really are.
Brace yourselves because it will come

Carlie97 · 02/03/2026 08:11

Another observation I made was this is all down to MEN. You don't see women planning to inflict suffering and killing innocent civilians through war much.

Are you sure it's not Iran's making?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c98wjzj4jlpo

I cannot be sure, of course. I am just saying what I think would make more sense for Iran, right now.
I think drawing Europe and UK into it would not be on their list right now.
Future..... high threat indeed.

Rather than submitting to an islamic fascist theocracy?
Did your husband tell to to say that?

EleanorReally · 02/03/2026 08:24

the current threat is Substantial

EleanorReally · 02/03/2026 08:24

surely the threat to US must be higher though

MushMonster · 02/03/2026 08:30

It is neither men or women. It is a huge collection of egomaniacs, most likely psychopaths of the greatest range, governing us.
We seem to have no real politicians left. Neither for internal or international affairs.

Oh grow up. This isn't submitting. This is Trump and Netanyahu war mongering. There is no need for the UK to be involved in another illegal war.

fgs. Does your teacher know you’re on Mumsnet?

BlackRowan · 02/03/2026 08:34

The lack of history knowledge is breathtaking. Do you think UK has been an ally or neutral towards Iran all these years?

also why aren’t you worried about UK being a target of Russian war strikes because of supporting Ukraine?
Thats far more likely because Russian missiles are absolutely pointed at the UK targets AND can reach them. Nuclear missiles may I add.
Iran doesn’t have long range missiles let alone nuclear ones.
