The Green Party. A party for women. A party for equality. A party for the rights for gay and trans people.... They ran their campaign on the Gaza stance. To secure the vote of people who go against the majority of their principles.

I am disgusted that British Politics, which is already in the gutter, a party who should champion ethics and morals, has sunk this low.

Surly I cannot be the only one who thinks this way?

That is quite a decision to be made for Muslims in that area either Reform or a gay Jew with a woman fronting the seat ? Personally I think the greens really went for the Muslim vote and they won whether it translates into other areas remains to be seen esp with Restore coming up through the ranks let’s see what happens

It would, but until there is evidence that this actually happened and proof that it materially changed the result, it's meaningless.

Perhaps angry Reform supporters need to look at why they chose to parachute in a man who had expressed major anti-Muslim, anti-immigrant sentiment into an area with a very diverse population? Their candidate openly said that a British passport doesn't make you British. This is what is known in the biz as 'shooting yourself in the foot', and it is generally considered to be not a smart thing to do.

Want to win a seat? Don't say stupid stuff. That's the lesson here.

As I have said before, tactical voting is going to be a real problem for Reform, because much as their followers adore them, there is a large swathe of people in the UK who are decent, moral and not racist who will use the FPTP system to keep them out by voting for whoever is most likely to do so.

Clearly this is what you want to believe. Personally I'm inclined to think that the people of Gorton and Denton looked at what was on offer and decided to vote to keep Reform out. And more power to them.

Also you talk about Gorton and Denton as if it's majority Muslim. It isn't.

It would have been even more ironic if an immigrant community voted for a party openly hostile to them, denying that they’re British and planning policies to deport them. It’s what most people would call a no brainer.

I'm not sure you know very much about the Muslim population of Manchester.

Manchester's public services and voluntary sector organisations are full of Muslim employees, many of whom were born and bred in the city. They happily co-exist with gay and trans employees and there are many women taking a full and active role in the workplace. They are quite capable of deciding they can live with the Green's other policies because they are the only party that has taken a stand they agree with on Gaza.

Traditionally, Manchester's Muslim community would have had moderate numbers voting Conservative and Lib Dem, but most voting Labour. This by election was a chance for many people, not just Muslims, to punish Labour for their underwhelming performance since they were elected. No whoring involved or required.

The belief among Reform supporters and the far right generally is that Muslims are a bloc of people who all think and believe exactly the same things and will all behave in the same way. Whereas here in the real world, they are as diverse in their beliefs and attitudes as everyone else of all faiths and none.

I wondered that myself, I'm not sure exactly what areas are covered, but I'd be surprised if there would even be enough voters to influence in the way the OP was suggesting.

And perhaps as other PP's have said, wanting to keep out a party who openly encourage anti-islamic rhetoric might have been more of a motivator for Muslim voters, than their policies on Gaza.

I keep seeing this pathetic alleged gotcha on MN. I must have missed the memo that said we should only object to genocide when all of the people being slaughtered share the same views as us on social issues.

His page is redwallandtherabble and as an ex-Muslim he provides a chilling insight (and warning) into what has occurred.

This is far deeper than so many people realise and even Hannah may not fully understand what she is getting into.

In the 2019 general election 80% of Muslims voted for Labour.

It does seem a bit odd that given their ‘anti-animal cruelty ‘ stance on other animals, that the Greens would be totally fine with the millions of animals slaughtered while conscious (against all normal EU standards) just because of religious beliefs.

Yes. I think lots of people looking at the pro Gaza politicians assume it’s just about protecting Palestinian civilians. Whereas it is really shorthand for supporting Islamic rule, which is a concern for the UK.
