The Green Party in Denton whored themselves out to secure a vote...

The Green Party. A party for women. A party for equality. A party for the rights for gay and trans people.... They ran their campaign on the Gaza stance. To secure the vote of people who go against the majority of their principles.

I am disgusted that British Politics, which is already in the gutter, a party who should champion ethics and morals, has sunk this low.

Surly I cannot be the only one who thinks this way?

Do reform support the Welsh language in Wales - I couldn't see any policies on their website ?

I have no idea, why don’t you ask them? Although I can’t see the relevance here.

@JustSomeWaferThinHam you could fit a slice of wafer thin ham between the Labour and the Reform vote.

It's still highly unlikely that 4000 Muslim voters were all coerced into voting Green and would otherwise have voted Reform. If anything Labour might have been second if you take out a hypothetical coerced vote.

Matt Goodwin was not local, had slated Muslims and said people with British passports weren't necessarily British. Be honest: he alienated people whose vote he needed.

It's still highly unlikely that 4000 Muslim voters were all coerced into voting Green and would otherwise have voted Reform.

I didn’t say they would have voted Reform instead 🤷‍♀️. I was pointing out the rather gleeful attitudes which will wave away the issue disenfranchising people with electoral fraud as long as the people committing the fraud are in the chosen group and they provide the desired outcome.

It just seems very short sighted. Our democracy is one of our most attractive features. Millions of people have given their lives to maintain our democracy yet PPs would accept that being undermined so the Greens can win.

I've no idea. I believe English is the primary language in Wales, and I can't envisage a scenario whereupon a Welsh person, who only spoke Welsh, would endevour to integrate in any other area of the UK without learning the lingo (because that would be very, very silly).
I wasn't parroting Reform anyway, my point was that living parallel lives isn't integration.

Well, they only distribute leaflets in English, not Welsh. This didn't help them in the Caerphilly election, and if they persist with this in the Senedd election I have no doubt it will cost them. As indeed it should.

Most of us wouldn't. We would just like to wait for the outcome of ongoing investigations. You seem weirdly convinced already - do you also take this stance with people who are accused of crimes, i.e. guilty until proven innocent?

I can't either. We have areas of the UK where there is a more or less official second language. I think that's great - being multilingual is incredibly good for the brain and has been shown to delay the progression of dementia. Where there are multiple officia languages, political parties should accommodate that. Anything they choose to do beyond that (i.e. leafleting and comms in more languages) is up to them. Some people on this thread have pointed to it as evidence of malfeasance, which is ridiculous.

BIossomtoes · 05/03/2026 18:15

There is definitely more than one source

What are the others?

What is it about the demographics of Jess Phillips constituency that makes you think independent observers should have noticed anything untoward in the election?

If you’d heard her acceptance speech you wouldn’t be asking what happened. Try googling it.

Well seeing as there has already been a confession, as I pointed out, it’s a case of ‘how many’ rather than ‘if’.

I’m sure you will dismiss that confession as just being one man but how I guess the question is: how many people are you happy to be disenfranchised in the pursuit of ‘righteousness’?

That's not a relevant question. If a person confesses to coercing family members to vote a certain way then that person has committed a crime, should be tried and should be sentenced. Their vote and the votes of his family should be discounted.

But you cannot extrapolate from one person to saying the entire result is not valid and a different party would have won. You investigate, prosecute and discount votes where there is evidence. Responding to rumour and speculation and acting on it also disenfranchises people.

There I was thinking it was a party for the environment.

Not any more it seems.

Ps Party for women???

pointythings · 05/03/2026 22:06

@WestwardHo1 well, they're still pretty keen on renewable energy and all those other good things. And where does it say that a political party has to be set in stone forever? Single issue parties don't do particularly well in the long term in any case, because you can't run a country on a single issue.

They printed in Urdu, and they campaigned on three core issues that were important to local Muslim voters: the NHS, the cost of living, and Gaza. So they didn't run a single issue campaign, they simply communicated their message in a language that could be understood by a lot of their voter base, alongside messages in English.

ShakeNCake · 05/03/2026 22:24

No I don't think English is primary in Wales, I believe English and Welsh are legally recognised and Welsh must not be treated less favourably, which in effect gives parity between the two languages, which is why you see dual language signage in Wales:

Gaza (and the wars in Iran, Sudan, Ukraine & everywhere else) is a HUGE ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE!
(arguably far more so than lgbt rights)

You know that the US military causes more climate change and environmental destruction than many countries put together?!

How could any party that claimed to be 'Green' not take the line they've taken about the ongoing genocide and ecological annihilation in Gaza?

Entirely logical. I hope theis byelection result forces the Labour Party to wake up and change their tune. They've enabled these atrocities for far too long. But as most of the new intake of Labour MPs are shills for Friends of Israel, I'm not holding my breath.

There'a a petition here calling for an inquiry into the influence that the Israeli lobby's had on Uk politics: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/752646

Petition: Call a public inquiry into pro-Israel influence on politics & democracy

We are concerned about reported Israeli state-linked and pro-Israel lobbying activity in UK politics. We believe it is important to determine the scope and impact of any such influence campaigns.

The leader of the greens literally said we need immigration because he doesn't want to wipe bums. If you think that means he's not racist I don't know what to say, it's one of the most offensive colonialist things I've heard lately (in a quite crowded field).

The greens cannot protect women's rights while defining woman as people who feel like women (what do women feel like?), it's not possible to protect women's rights while counting some males as women and some females as men. Your assertion that the majority of transwomen are benign isn't really supported by the evidence, eg prison stats, but even if they were all just lovely they're still men. Lots of men are lovely, it doesn't take away the needs for single sex provisions.

Please evidence your assumption that I support reform? I literally said greens and reform are as bad as each other and both are batshit. Your post is what I'm talking about, it's ridiculous to assume someone is a reform supporter because they criticise the greens. We're not in a cartoon, it's not goodies versus baddies.

You misunderstood what I said. If he did say the stuff about immigrants wiping bums of course that's pretty unpleasant and annoying and yes, even racist but that is still preferable to the racism promoted by reform. As someone who is not white I don't have the luxury to condemn all instances of racism as equal. I hear remarks like this day in and day out including from people that I like and respect. Most people (of all colours) hold some sort of racial prejudice I have noticed but some can and will hurt me and some won't. So I do just try to ignore some racist stuff but others, like reform's for instance, I cannot ignore because I know they will make my life and that of my family significantly worse to the extent that if reform comes to power I will probably decide to leave the country. Not just because they will implement policies to make my life difficult but also because I don't want to live in a country where the majority of the population thinks that I am their main problem. The type of racism that reform promotes will make me and my family unsafe.

It's similar with the green's position on trans women. I don't agree with them but I still think they are a safer party for women than reform. Whether I believe trans women are real women or not I don't think they pose a massive threat. Can you show me a source that says that the majority of trans women are dangerous? Not a few examples but actual statistics?

Finally, I am happy if you don't support reform and apologies for saying you do.

@WestwardHo1 well, they're still pretty keen on renewable energy and all those other good things. And where does it say that a political party has to be set in stone forever? Single issue parties don't do particularly well in the long term in any case, because you can't run a country on a single issue.

But their green policies aren't founded on anything realistic. Have you seen the absolute shambles the Greens have helped create in Germany? All they've done is facilitate a lurch towards the AfD? Meanwhile the country's infrastructure is crumbling.

The Greens now seem more concerned with virtue signalling about men pretending to be women and banning private landlords (WTF?) and Palestine than they are about the sewage scandal, for example. We hear far about that more from Surfers Against Sewage than we do from the so called "Green" Party about that. What will they do about forever chemicals in the environment? What are their plans for tackling these fly tipping gangs? When Polanski claims only x% of the country is built on as justification for building massive housing developments, where is the acknowledgement that much larger areas of the country are going to be needed for food security and flood prevention. They are clueless.
