What’s the most unusual name a child in your kids class at school has had?
Almost every other child I know is called Harry, Theo, Leo, Olivia….would love to hear some unusual examples of names!

we have a ‘Devon’

It was on my list for middle name for DC3. It was a girl, so. But it is that weird?

It’s my DD’s middle name (under 35).

Same here.

My 17 year old has 2 friends called Rachel.

I'm liking some of the newer names. Forest, Devon, Phoenix. Angel I find a bit much. Don't know why really, there was one on Home and Away way back in the 90s.

Ohyeahitsme · 01/03/2026 16:34

Iain and John are the most unusual in my kids school,a only because they're associated more with my age group than my kids.

DoubleDoubleDown · 01/03/2026 16:35

Lots of different nationalities at my kids schools. Persian, Turkish, Nigerian, Danish to name a few. Some really beautiful names. Senya and Ngozi are 2 of my favorites.

We had a Persephone and a Seren both of which I liked. Boy wise though fairly usual names tbh.

My DD had three - THREE - Ians in her primary school class (she’s 13 now)!

Cetera · 01/03/2026 16:59

I work in a children’s activity setting for kids 0-11yrs. I’d say I’ve seen almost all of the names mentioned here. The most unusual name now would probably be something like Claire or Mark!

Ultravox · 01/03/2026 17:00

Lark - really suits her!

Oh I am pleased! What a lovely selection of names! I am out of the school circle at the moment so only know young family names. We have some of the Ethel/Stan/Mildred era, and some more random ones- not any era in particular, actual names, but not in any kind of type if you see what I mean. Maybe Sebastian or Ettienne would be the kind of thing.

I’m glad the slightly hippy names are more mainstream- Tiger, River, Summer.

It sounds as though there’s a much wider range than in the past.
