What’s the most unusual name a child in your kids class at school has had?
Almost every other child I know is called Harry, Theo, Leo, Olivia….would love to hear some unusual examples of names!

It was on my list for middle name for DC3. It was a girl, so. But it is that weird?

I know an adult Devon (woman)

Sartre · 01/03/2026 17:11

Honestly the most unusual are the real old school names so for example my DD is 13 and she has a Paul, Theresa, Patricia and Mark… To me, all of those names scream 60+. The best thing is Paul and Mark are friends so when she mentions them I always picture them in a pub.

Surely no teacher is going to post the actual names ON HERE of the real life children in their class?

Good grief. Hmm

The one that stood out to me was Rachel
You don't often hear that on under 35s!

Rachel is timeless! (IMO)

SuperSharpShooter · 01/03/2026 17:11

My kids have probably got the weirdest names 😅 I'd be very surprised if there was another of my Boy2's name in the entire country. Although we've plenty of Polish, Portuguese and African kids at school/college.

Some of these names are lovely. I'd love to meet a little Queenie ❤️ Parker was on both girl and boy list for my two.
We have lots of Welsh names, as to be expected, in Wales but some of them I'd never heard of, not being Welsh, some of them are very beautiful.

Spider Gwen was the most worn costume at the last comicon we went to. Im expecting a fair few baby Gwens in the near future!

We have an Ossian ( like the bard) and Braan after the river.

I’m so intrigued now! My son has an unusual first name but then an unusual foreign surname too (the names wouldn’t normally be put together) so there’s probably only a few of him!

scrivette · 01/03/2026 17:13

DD’s year has some lovely and unusual names - I can’t post them all as it would be too identifying as they are very unusual. There is a Serendipity and a Belle.

I know 2 Rachel's, one is 10 and one 12!

Fox is the most unusual I've heard.

There's a Nevaeh in my son's class...

Lots of different nationalities at my kids schools. Persian, Turkish, Nigerian, Danish to name a few. Some really beautiful names. Senya and Ngozi are 2 of my favorites.

Same for my own kids and when I was growing up.

It’s only unusual to me if it is a really old name. One of my classmates named her daughter Gertrude and I thought that was a bit unusual and guessed it was someone in the family that maybe had it.

Oh, thank you we really thought of it as a boy's name.

I was one of maaaaany of my name at school, popular with the mid 70's catholics. Wanted something a bit unusual for my kids.

SplendidUtterly · 01/03/2026 17:22

Careful, this could be very outting for some people!

birdpoo · 01/03/2026 17:22

Blimey who calls their kid Adonis?!

Gluedtogether · 01/03/2026 17:23

My daughter, at an all girls school, had a Timothee.
Son was at school with a hippy family's offspring - the ones I recall were Nature and Dillinger.
But my classmates were lumbered with me... called after the town where I was conceived (parents were on holiday abroad).

PrincessOfPreschool · 01/03/2026 17:29

A PP mentioned 'Wraith'

WRAITH.

Will it become the new Balonz?

spiderlight · 01/03/2026 17:31

My DS has finished school now but his was probably the most unusual name in all his classes - not sure why because it's a perfectly normal Welsh name, in Wales, but barely anyone seemed to have heard it before and he used to dread supply teachers attempting it!

In college last year, he had a Graeme in his class. I've never met a Graeme/Graham under 40 so that was quite unusual.

KillTheTurkey · 01/03/2026 17:32

I think if you want an unusual name nowadays in a sea of -ies and -as, you have two options:

(a) go full unique (see above), make up a name from scratch if you like e.g. Spatula, Gravel, Neutron.
(b) go ‘old school’ 1950s-1980s so Barry, Colin, Steve, Sheila, Deborah, Carol.

You will guarantee no other kids have the same name as your DS/DD.

Marble10 · 01/03/2026 17:33

Persephone
I know they just put in ‘poshest baby girl names’ and picked off the list!

My friend is Ngozi. I love the name. I also love Rhasidat -she produces it ra-SHE-da.
