What’s the most unusual name a child in your kids class at school has had?
Almost every other child I know is called Harry, Theo, Leo, Olivia….would love to hear some unusual examples of names!

Came across a Beau (boy) recently.

Ladamesansmerci · 01/03/2026 17:40

My toddler isn't in school yet, but in terms of other toddlers I know the most unusual are probably Ocean (on a girl) and Wolfgang (not a German family, but my partner who is German finds it funny as to her that's an old man name!)

Some of these names are new to me. I think my DS’s class must have just about the least number of outlier names imaginable. I think much of that is due a lack of ethnic diversity. One child has one English and one Eastern European parent but that’s about as diverse as we get.

ainsleysanob · 01/03/2026 17:41

Lyric-Rogue is the most ‘unusual‘ name I’ve heard.

Shall we just start taking the piss out of non English names now? These threads always descend into casual racism with a nice touch of classism. It does show how thick a lot of posters are, when they claim Hebrew names are made up. Or don't understand why the Black African-Americans rejected George, Charlotte etc and created their own versions.

Who's rattled your cage?

In my son’s class there seem to be a few examples of place, country or nationality names - such as France or Dutch - which sounds unusual to me.

Quite a few old fashioned names that I didn’t realise were part of the grandad/ grandma name craze - even things like Brian. My DD had a Beryl in her class.

Still quite a lot of Harrys, Ethans etc though

There are two Brians in one class at my daughter's school. The last thing you would expect in naming your baby Brian in around 2020 was that they would be known as 'Brian S' and 'Brian C' at school.

That could be mistaken for "Rocky Roads" 😉

KingscoteStaff · 01/03/2026 17:46

Ptolemy.

romdowa · 01/03/2026 17:47

Remy, raelynn and ira would be the most unusual names in the baby group i attend

HelenaWilson · 01/03/2026 17:49

Queenie is a name that I genuinely never thought would come back.

Queenie, Queenie, who's got the ball....

GreenCaterpillarOnALeaf · 01/03/2026 17:53

I went to school with a Merlin, not super weird but it was very funny because him and a boy called Arthur hated one another and actually got into a scrap.

Kids class - Arrow, Breeze, Meadow-Lily… there’s a boy called Whistle that DS is friends with but that’s not his government name that’s just what people call him for some reason. Also met a baby at baby group called Barry, not unusual but it was odd seeing a baby called Barry it’s normally an old geezer at the pub.

My daughter, at an all girls school, had a Timothee.
Son was at school with a hippy family's offspring - the ones I recall were Nature and Dillinger.
But my classmates were lumbered with me... called after the town where I was conceived (parents were on holiday abroad).

Lucky they didn't holiday in Benidorm....

I am an ex primary school teacher. I am also judgy as hell BUT don't judge children on their names.

I do want to add, however, that I taught a Jayden every year for 5 years. One was the stereotype - but was also hilarious, kind and very bright. The other 3 (I taught one 2 years in a row) were just lovely, lovely children who made my job a joy.

EDIT - I know Jayden is not unusual, but I wanted to point out why judging names is a mug's game. And, even if the OP didn't intend it to be, this is a massively judgemental post.

RunningOnEmptyish · 01/03/2026 17:54

A boy named Wonderful. He wasn’t.

Allisnotlost1 · 01/03/2026 17:55

PrincessOfPreschool · 01/03/2026 17:29

A PP mentioned 'Wraith'

WRAITH.

Will it become the new Balonz?

I’m stunned it took so long for someone to point out Wraith. Insane name.

There's a Nevaeh in my son's class...

It’s Heaven spelt backwards Smile

Glittertwins · 01/03/2026 17:58

If I put the unusual names down, a few of which are already on here, I’d be totally outed.
