What’s the most unusual name a child in your kids class at school has had?
Almost every other child I know is called Harry, Theo, Leo, Olivia….would love to hear some unusual examples of names!

we have a ‘Devon’

We had two - one boy and one girl!

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 01/03/2026 18:02

DN’s birthday party recently had Cosmo, Raven, Skye-lark (yes spelled like the island and pronounced like the bird!) and Reginald (who is not to be called Reggie or Reg!!).

Shall we just start taking the piss out of non English names now? These threads always descend into casual racism with a nice touch of classism. It does show how thick a lot of posters are, when they claim Hebrew names are made up. Or don't understand why the Black African-Americans rejected George, Charlotte etc and created their own versions.

Actually youve just reminded me the maddest names I’ve heard are four children with one Greek parent, all of whom have long unpronounceable names I’ve never heard before.

I know a Rodney under the age of 7.

Also Mona-Lisa (2 of these unbelievably!)

Huxley

Rugby

TheBewleySisters · 01/03/2026 18:05

My great-niece (7) has a Patricia in her class, as well as Quinn (girl).

Proseccoagain · 01/03/2026 18:05

DD's school has a Queenie, Dax, Jorja, Dolores, Paul, Patience, and (my favourite...) Comfort.

Bilbobagginsbollox · 01/03/2026 18:09

Storm and Larch. Both nice names.

Both of my dc are mixed race. The ones with strange, questionable names I know of are white British.

There's a Nevaeh in my son's class...

I'm a supply teacher and Nevaeh seems to be more and more popular where we live. A child in my extended family is a Nevaeh too

Cel77 · 01/03/2026 18:11

Atlas.

Dorrieisalittlewitch · 01/03/2026 18:12

Ocean is such a daft name.

Why? I admit to a degree of bias as it occurs a few times in my family tree (mostly pre 1900) but I think it's similar to River, Blossom, Lark etc which seem popular enough names. We know multiple Rowans and I met an Aspen at work. Both of which I also like.

Surely no teacher is going to post the actual names ON HERE of the real life children in their class?

Good grief. Hmm

Well she asked parents not teachers. But a teachers saying "I teach a Derek and a Volvk" isn't outing unless you're confident you're the only one who ever called their kids that. And even if it is outing, as long as they're not being rude, why would you care?

MrsMitford3 · 01/03/2026 18:15

Funny-I find Princess a bit of a tragediegh but love Queenie!

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 01/03/2026 18:17

My DD is now thirty but through primary and into secondary school she was in school with "Liam Gallagher", "Katie Tunstall", "Jack Black" and Geronimo. These were all genuine names.

Driftingawaynow · 01/03/2026 18:18

People naming their kids after gods need to chill the fuck out

Hottchoc · 01/03/2026 18:19

I used to a cover supervisor and a few that come to mind are
Renesme - after the baby in twilight
Daenarys- game of thrones
Dexter- named after the serial killer
Tiger lilly

Queenie is a name that I genuinely never thought would come back.

Queenie, Queenie, who's got the ball....

Oh you have just brought back the most wonderful memories of my lovely grandma ❤️

ETA my DS has what would be considered a very standard/common name and he is the only one in his class.

TulipsAndPancakes · 01/03/2026 18:22

We have a "Cherry" i love it.

Bloatstoat · 01/03/2026 18:22

There was a Wren in baby group with my eldest which I thought was sweet but had never come across before.

The most unusual in DD1's class is a Margaret. It was my grandmother's name, she passed away about a year before DD was born, and I did consider it for her but DH and I thought it was too old fashioned. I would never have thought she might not be the only one in her class if we had used the name!
