What’s the most unusual name a child in your kids class at school has had?
Almost every other child I know is called Harry, Theo, Leo, Olivia….would love to hear some unusual examples of names!

Princess - although I must say I love it! Also have a Pegah (Peggie) in the other same age group class

I love Pegah! It's a traditional Persian name meaning dawn.

SouthLondonMum22 · 01/03/2026 18:28

In DS's preschool room at nursery - Orion.
In twin DD's toddler room at nursery - Cleo.

The rest are the standard Noah, Theo, Olivia etc.

There's a Nevaeh in my son's class...

Ohhhh…there was such a rash of those around fifteen years ago! I was working on the booking line for the registrars where I live at the time, and I lost count of the number of appointments I booked for little Nevaeh’s. After a few weeks I could practically join in on the ‘it’s Heaven spelt backwards!’, that the mums always said 😂

Tuesday and Honey. I really love the name Tuesday. The other class in that year has Joanne, Ian and Michelle. That made me smile.

AnnaQuayRules · 01/03/2026 18:30

My DC are both adults, but from memory neither of them had friends with very "out there" names. Although DC2 was in a class with two little girls named Honey which I thought was quite unusual. One of the Honeys had a sister named Sorrel and the other Honey had a brother named Fox. So those names were also unusual.

Circlesquaretriangle · 01/03/2026 18:32

Fox and Silk.

Bean

The whole Ledasha (Le-dasha) name is such a bloody myth. Based on racist roots

https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/le-a/

It's even got it's own snopes legend page

But on each thread someone swears they know one

FACT CHECK: Is This Child's Name for Real?

The tale of a mother who names her child 'Le-a,' which she insists be pronounced 'Ledasha.'

I know of a Wolf, Arrow and Rocket. All boys primary age.

Arrow and Rocket? Poor lads.

IcantFeelMyFaceNow · 01/03/2026 18:35

My Bro is a teacher. He has a Zane (boy) Sherpa (girl) and a Strid (boy).

He says they suit the names and nobody bothers about the weirdness of names any more. I like his attitude.

We have a child in the family who has been named something very strange after it came to his mother in a dream (apparently) but...it suits him.

I was just about to link that article. As soon as I saw the thread title I knew someone would claim a “Le-a” in their DC’s class.

Not in my child’s class but my nephews
Sonic
and
Lyric.

I also knew twins named Nevada and Norenzo.

Thinking back to my teaching days now, a few memorable names:

Wednesday (a wonderful, spirited little girl)
Winter (a summer born girl that lit up the room)
Blue (as quiet as a mouse but the sweetest nature)
Tristan (everyone's friend)
Devlyn (very theatrical and dramatic little boy)
Robyn (Quirky with a great sense of humour)

I'm sure more will come to mind but these names I'll never forget because the children were unforgettable! These names were from several of the classes I taught spread over 25 years!

CtrlAltDelete89 · 01/03/2026 18:42

There is a Kestrel (girl) on my road - I think it's absolutely beautiful! She goes by Kess (pronounced like Tess). I'm surprised more bird names haven't been picked up with the popularity of Robin/Wren.

Shall we just start taking the piss out of non English names now? These threads always descend into casual racism with a nice touch of classism. It does show how thick a lot of posters are, when they claim Hebrew names are made up. Or don't understand why the Black African-Americans rejected George, Charlotte etc and created their own versions.

This!!!

Why? Are you looking for a name, for your newborn?

What she said ⬆️

ALittleDropOfRain · 01/03/2026 18:45

Leokardia and Jonne (J is pronounced Y). Germany has extremely strict naming rules. The second name has to be recognisably male or female and there’s a list of banned names and naming conventions.

My son was impressed by Printcessa (?) as it sounds very similar to the German for princess.

We also have the grandparent names doing the rounds of the Kindergarten and primary school. But they’re different to the British. Paul and Emma are grandparent/ young child names here!

How lovely that you remember these little children so well. 🌹

Blimey who calls their kid Adonis?!

Actually a very popular Cypriot name, so any English Cypriots out there would not think twice using it

Not school, but in the next road is a little girl called Parker.

Poor child! She’ll be ‘Nosy’ Parker for years….

We had a Persephone and a Seren both of which I liked. Boy wise though fairly usual names tbh.

Seren isn't that unusual, it's very common in Wales. I think it's a lovely name.
