To think that everyone is getting far too excited about this Green win?

All this fuss about one Green win - I really don't think it's massively significant given the local demographic and the upcoming local elections will be the real test.

As if the Greens are going to get anywhere near power! Not going to happen.

The problem is the last few Conservative governments weren't really Conservative, more Lib Dem light (due to the effects of the Coalition probably, which is a lesson for Reform). So we can't really judge what a real "Conservative" government would be from recent conservative governments. If you see what I mean.

They were plenty bad enough for a lot of us to decide we don’t want a government consisting of the worst of its members. None of the defectors would have even been selected to stand for election in Thatcher or Major’s government where a modicum of decency and integrity was required.

HRTQueen · 01/03/2026 09:26

I’m concerned that the Greens could in some areas allow Reform to win by splitting the left wing vote

The GE is a few years away people will start to understand their polices better and the excitement of Zack Polanski will have worn off doubt they will win more than 10 seats

What lack of decency and integrity do you have an issue with re Jenrick and Braverman? Just the fact they jumped ship to a party that reflected their views better?

Are you sure (as a Labour supporter) you are in a position to comment about decency and integrity in another political party?

I’m not a Labour supporter. HTH.

Badenoch was supposed to herald a new beginning for the Tories after their worst defeat ever in 2024, yet they got just 706 votes, again, their worst by election defeat ever and vote share lower than in 2024.

Tbf to Kemi, it's still too soon.

Too soon? but less time given to Labour.... ok

She is wrecking the Tory party, perhaps even more so than Boris Johnson did.

Tories lost 20 out of 21 By-elections between 2010 to 2015, yet still won in 2015.

The 'right/con supporters dismissing the the Tory vote and their even worse popularity than Labour in the 'polls is being rather naive.

Because the fact remains, time is on Labours side, they have another 3.5 years IN power, the Tories remain in opposition, as they will stay after 2029

Yay! 😂

Just read what is in the public domain about Robert Jenrick should be enough. Politics would be better if he retired as an MP and did something else. He is not nicknamed 'Honest Bob' because of his integrity and previous actions.

As for the woman who was named Sue Ellen by her parents, someone who fails basic IT security with government documents is not someone I ever want in government again.

You mean a party that gives them a better chance of power?

All the recent Tory defectors have changed their views, some rather dramatically.

There is nothing decent about that.

Which Labour MPs have defected to another party?

I don’t think the likes of Jenrick and Braverman have changed their views at all. They’re just emboldened to be more open about them in their new party.

Exactly. Boris Johnson purged the party of decent Conservatives.

Why wont they, have you a crystal ball?

Because they are as mad as a box of frogs (and by the way they have completely forgotten about the frogs at this point).

You also quoted my OP right after the OP. Why would you do that? 🤣

Edited

I saw a post somewhere, I don't think it was on Mumsnet, saying they'll not get in because they are not capable of being in charge of a packet of crisps never mind the country.

Still not correct. I’ve criticised this government plenty. There’s no need to put a label on me, I have views that are left of yours - which, to be fair, isn’t difficult.

The left wing spin machine still turns of course. But presumably by now most sensible people question what it churns out.

It would be brilliant if basic IT security issues would be the main charge against the current government, I suppose.

I see you are implying I have far right views. What would they be out of interest? Do answer with due regard that the Overton Window may have shifted.

Oh come on. You always defend the government. Why are you turning now? The cock is about to crow three times...

I don’t always defend the government and my views are undeniably left of yours, where did I imply yours are far right? Maybe you could stop with the personal attacks and slurs and stick to the issues? This must be intensely boring for other posters.

What's wrong with that? Nice to have a bit of patriotism. Labour used to be a patriotic party too.

There's more to patriotism than spending tens of thousands of public money on Chinese nylon.

I agree - I think this is why the Conservative party didn't deliver - it wasn't Conservative enough. I like Kemi Badenoch and if I could be convinced she was tough enough to carry through difficult policies I.e. reducing immigration and our out of control benefit system I might go back to them.

"I have views that are left of yours - which, to be fair, isn’t difficult". If you weren't trying to imply I have far right views the last half of your sentence would be superfluous.

Yes, I understand your point, but there has always been different strains of conservatism, from One nation tories, Macmillan, Rab Butler etc, or the wets as Maggie would call them to, Powellism that evolved into Keith Joseph in the 70s to Maggie in the 80s, David Cameron would have been at home in a Macmillan govt, he was in the background of John Majors govt, Johnson, May, Sunak, I've left Truss out, god know where she was from, used to be a young lib dem, but my point holds what strain of toryism??
