To think that everyone is getting far too excited about this Green win?

All this fuss about one Green win - I really don't think it's massively significant given the local demographic and the upcoming local elections will be the real test.

As if the Greens are going to get anywhere near power! Not going to happen.

It would help if people learned to listen to what people have said. I repeat:-

"Speaking to BBC South East ahead of his party conference, Zack Polanski said he agreed with a Kent Green councillor, who earlier this year called for the legalisation of all drugs, including class A drugs like heroin and crack cocaine."

TBF both are available in a small Cornish village, apparently quite easily, we have in effect "legalisation" by the back door.

Things like cannabis, mdma, coke etc are widespread and ignored by the Police.

I don't know whether legalisation would work but what we have now isn't... the argument being that taking away the criminal side of things means the state controls supply and quality.

Personally i'd prefer better Policing & punishments but we don't want to pay for any of that, so then what?

No need for foul language Blossom. I know it's embarrassing to admit your leftist tendency but we need to maintain some semblance of standards.

I'd be swearing as well, if I had voted for this government.

Many of my friends are more right leaning than me, but given a choice they would vote "leftist" rather than reform et al. Its not the insult you think it is.
Standards vary...

Oh you know... illegals, open boarders, (sp), uncontrolled immigration, blame everything on immigration instead of acknowledging any positives...its quite easy really. Gb news script stands out a mile if you're not indoctrinated by it

They are unlikely to get into power but they will give Labour a very bloody nose over the coming years, and at the next GE.

They will split the left/liberal vote and that will benefit Reform.

Im not sure greens would be better than reform. Greens are providing essentially justifications for islamic terrorist attacks in Britain. Is this who you want in government?

Do we need to swear to make a political point? And someone who mentions it is called "goady"?

I don't know what the answer is and obviously the current system isnt working. But drugs do huge damage especially for young people and I don't think relaxing the law would be a good thing.

Which Cornish village out of interest?

Not true. Why would you make that up? I vote Conservative. And wish they would sort themselves out. It doesn't prevent me having a view on Reform that may not be the same as yours?

My "ilk". I haven't used a laughing emoji?

Never wound up by MN! Only entertained. Although mainly if the poster is more clever or amusing (even if I disagree with them).

The Conservative Party's showing in the Gorton and Denton by-election was so small that it will not have the cash it had to pay to stand returned.
In parliamentary elections, candidates must put down a £500 deposit, which is returned as long as they poll more than 5% of the vote.
Tory candidate Charlotte Ann Cadden managed to poll just 2% of the vote, coming in fourth place behind the winning Greens, Reform in second and Labour in third.
Elections expert Sir John Curtice said the Conservatives' performance was their worst ever in a parliamentary by-election.

Prof Sir John Curtice

Sir John Curtice: Greens' win means future of British politics is more uncertain than ever

Not only did Hannah Spencer become the first Green to win a by-election, she won it well.

But they arent going to get the middle ground by copying reform (unless Ruth Davidson makes headway). So moving towards the right is their approach. May as well be reform

I’m not remotely embarrassed. And MN is fine with “foul language”, if it offends you don’t read my posts or engage with me.

We are well beyond the middle ground anyway. Elections don't seem to be won there any more.
