'Being Gordon Ramsay' featuring dead pig!

Ffs! I'm just watching this Netflix show about Gordon Ramsay and his opening of a new restaurant with amazing views in the city. I'm not interested in him particularly, but thought I might go to this 'Lucky Cat' just for the views over London, if and whenever it opens.

BUT - then there is a scene where he is consulting with his head chef about the menu and there is a whole dead baby suckling pig on a plate. They are talking about making this a restaurant feature, requiring two chefs who carve it at your table.

AIBU to think this is obscene? Yes, I'm vegetarian, but I think even most meat eaters would balk at this?

If I were in his restaurant and that was going at the the next table, I would leave. Wtf is wrong with humans?

Not to mention that this will not exactly appeal to his potential Muslim customers.

Would you leave if someone was eating a pork chop or a bacon sandwich? It's the same thing really. I think if you can't bear the sight of the whole dead animal you should stick to restaurants and cooking programmes that focus on vegetarian or vegan food, or only using fish and meat after the butcher or fishmonger has finished with them.

paloma7 · 27/02/2026 17:15

It is not normal in restaurants to have a whole dead baby pig wheeled out, is it? We are not living in the court of Henry 8th ffs.

His is not a normal restaurant? That’s kind of the point? Also plenty of us have been to a hog roast

WineBeforeWhine · 27/02/2026 17:16

Most meat eaters I know wouldn’t balk at a suckling pig on the table. Most carnivores are aware of where their meat comes from. I think you’re upset because you’re a vegetarian. That’s ok, each other own. Just avert your eyes if you’re offended.

TheChosenTwo · 27/02/2026 17:16

I certainly wouldn’t be upset seeing it. We go somewhere in Spain where we specifically order a whole suckling pig so it would be a bit hypocritical of me to be turning my nose up that I saw one on tv. I eat meat. I know it’s a dead animal.

Nomedshere · 27/02/2026 17:17

Wouldn't bother me

Catza · 27/02/2026 17:17

... as a Jewish woman I can confirm that I am not offended in the slightest. People eat meat, meat comes from dead animals. We all know that.

UniquePinkSwan · 27/02/2026 17:17

This wouldn’t bother me one bit

Hadalifeonce · 27/02/2026 17:17

I had a hog roast for my birthday a few years ago, a whole pig roasted in my back garden. Everyone loved it.
So, I don't agree with your argument OP.

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 27/02/2026 17:17

Hog roast is fairly common sight, as is a whole roast chicken, duck or turkey.
Whole fish.

I sympathise, but your reaction is an emotional one rather than a rational one.

paloma7 · 27/02/2026 17:17

Are these baby pigs slaughtered the minute they are born? How is this considered appetising in any shape or form? What is wrong with people?

And it looked absolutely delicious. Oink oink

WearyAuldWumman · 27/02/2026 17:18

It's not something I relished seeing, but it's not that unusual.

When we visited family in Eastern Europe, a whole suckling pig was served one day. It put me off pork for some time - I was only 14 and had watched the sow giving birth the day before.

I'm over it now and will happily dig into a bacon sandwich.

Everlil · 27/02/2026 17:18

Most cooking shows have dead animals in them surely?

Tableforjoan · 27/02/2026 17:18

I mean your paying over £100 a head for a fancy experience that you don’t get in other places.

So I’d expect the unexpected.

Also why with the what if. If your that offended by pigs being eaten you wouldn’t eat anywhere that pork was served full stop.

Peoplemakemedespair · 27/02/2026 17:19

What’s your opinion on being served a whole fish/crab/other seafood? Or a whole chicken or duck? Have you never seen a whole turkey for Xmas?

Tableforjoan · 27/02/2026 17:19

Well it would be a be harder to lug an entire adult pig on the table tbh far too much meat for one table of four.

Duckiewasthefirstniceguy · 27/02/2026 17:19

YABU. People eat meat. Meat comes from dead animals. Most of us are aware of this.

beefthief · 27/02/2026 17:20

Sounds delicious

WearyAuldWumman · 27/02/2026 17:21

I've never eaten suckling pig myself, but my dad certainly enjoyed it.

Ted27 · 27/02/2026 17:21

Suckling pig is not that unusual a dish, very common at organised bbqs, outdoor catered parties and celebrations.

People who order it will know what to expect.
I can see as a veggie why it might upset you but personally I think if you eat meat you know it comes from a dead animal

LolaLeee · 27/02/2026 17:22

This is why I am mainly eating a plant based diet. I love animals too much.

Have you never been to an event with a pig roast?? Definitely not my favourite thing to look at or eat but not exactly something from the dark ages!

Last time I went to an event with a pig roast was a wedding less than a year ago - and the bride is a vegetarian! So yours is not a universal opinion at all.

paloma7 · 27/02/2026 17:23

I am vegetarian but I'm not going to tell other people what they can or can't eat.

What I find obscene is the making a spectacle of the whole dead animal. Like it's supposed to be a 'wow' factor. What can possibly be 'wow' about a baby pig, slaughtered at birth. To me, it's totally unnecessary and actually depraved.
