'Being Gordon Ramsay' featuring dead pig!

Ffs! I'm just watching this Netflix show about Gordon Ramsay and his opening of a new restaurant with amazing views in the city. I'm not interested in him particularly, but thought I might go to this 'Lucky Cat' just for the views over London, if and whenever it opens.

BUT - then there is a scene where he is consulting with his head chef about the menu and there is a whole dead baby suckling pig on a plate. They are talking about making this a restaurant feature, requiring two chefs who carve it at your table.

AIBU to think this is obscene? Yes, I'm vegetarian, but I think even most meat eaters would balk at this?

If I were in his restaurant and that was going at the the next table, I would leave. Wtf is wrong with humans?

Are these baby pigs slaughtered the minute they are born? How is this considered appetising in any shape or form? What is wrong with people?

No, I mean the minute a piglet has been born it hasn't suckled yet so it wouldn't be a 'suckling pig'.

6 to 8 weeks of age.

Have you seen a newborn piglet - there is next to no meat on them. It would be pointless - a suckling pig feeds between 6 to 14 people on average. A newborn pig wouldn't have enough meat on it for a sandwich for one!

If you ordered veal, would you want the cow's head on the table while you ate?

Yes, people know where meat comes from, but many of them don't like to dwell on it too much. No meat eater I know would be particularly delighted with the head of a lamb, pig or cow on the table while they ate. Let's be honest.

Then they are deceiving themselves. It’s refreshingly honest to confront people with the reality of their diet.

I don’t have much sympathy with those who try and deny what they are eating.

DarkEyedSailor · 27/02/2026 17:40

Head on the table wouldn't bother me at all. It would some of my family, but not me.

What a laugh for all

What's the issue?

The pig had a lovely life and was raised in a humane way, us children learnt where our food comes from.

FWIW, no child refused to eat the hog roast.

thecatdidit · 27/02/2026 17:41

I'm with you @paloma7 . I'm an omnivore but I don't eat much meat at all, when my DH is away my diet is entirely meat free.
My DC is a stockman and I usually only eat animals raised by them. I try not to dwell on the awful reality of livestock farming.
I certainly wouldn't want to see a suckling pig on display.
I don't eat poultry cos you can tell what it is 😞

IDontHateRainbows · 27/02/2026 17:42

Love a bit of suckling pig...

If I'm going to eat pork in any form why not the whole pig, there's no difference morally.

FreshInks · 27/02/2026 17:42

I wonder why OP is not a vegan. Vegetarians generally eat dairy, eggs, honey and other products with ingredients derived from animals. It’s a bit hypocritical.

HoppityBun · 27/02/2026 17:42

That’s nothing compared with the hypocrisy of cooing over little baa lambs, ignoring that they’ll be shoved on a lorry to go the abattoir in a few weeks.

Then insisting that Welsh and English lamb tastes better than imported lamb

Mapletree1985 · 27/02/2026 17:42

I have eaten it and enjoyed it.

And the poor lobsters? I think they get the worst deal.

Although the ones in the restaurant on the titanic got lucky...

Why is that hypocritical?

Are baby lambs cute? Yes.
Are they very tasty? Also yes.

I will be city bankers etc ordering it to show off and be flash. Urghh.

City bankers do much worse than eat suckling pig lol

Your be better off campaigning for the police to tackle all the snow floating around

AlcoholicAntibiotic · 27/02/2026 17:47

No problem with this at all. If you don’t like it, don’t eat there - I am sure plenty of people will.

Not sure why Muslims are particularly relevant; I imagine they wouldn’t be ordering the dish anyway.

City banker here 🙋🏼‍♀️

Would never take a client to this Gordon Ramsay restaurant 😂

BIWI · 27/02/2026 17:48

@paloma7

But sitting eating pork with the pig's head in the table would not go down well with a lot of meat-eaters.

You do not speak for meat-eaters. Especially as you're a vegetarian!

Gordon Ramsay's restaurant, Lucky Cat, is Asian-inspired, and suckling pig is a classic Cantonese dish, usually served at banquets for special occasions. It's delicious.

Pigs are grown for slaughter and for us to eat - what difference does it make at what stage in their lives they are slaughtered?

faerylights · 27/02/2026 17:48

Is anyone else really craving roast pork now? With crackling and apple sauce?

Oh dear.

I too am a vegetarian and I completely disagree

I have no respect for meat eaters who are squeamish and don’t want to know where it comes from - so yes they should be eating their hamburger with a cows head eyeballing them!

Jaffapedigree · 27/02/2026 17:51

I once worked for Damien Hirst. Walked into work early one day to see a cow's head thawing on a tarp on the floor. He was recreating his "One Thousand Years" piece for a retrospective in the Tate.

Wasn't bothered. Bit amused, cool story to tell folks, and really, puts a suckling pig to shame! Now, the ethics of using dead livestock in modern art is certainly a very interesting debate.

(I used to do taxidermy too, OP would probably hate me!)

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 27/02/2026 17:52

Are you trying to get outrage by using the term “baby”

I’ve watched the programme, the “baby” pig had to be wheeled in as it was a large pig and it took 3/4 men to carry/roll the meat in the restaurant on a cart.

The reality is animals are killed for human consumption, as a meat eater, this wouldn’t bother me nor would I imagine it would bother 90% of people who eat meat!

Pebbles16 · 27/02/2026 17:53

In some cultures it is a celebratory dish (particularly Spain and Portugal).
To me it is actually more honest than just buying meat in the supermarket which gives little indication that an animal has been involved in its production.

Not to mention that this will not exactly appeal to his potential Muslim customers.

What a bizarre thread and even weirder thing to highlight.

should all Asian restaurants stop selling pork?
