'Being Gordon Ramsay' featuring dead pig!

Ffs! I'm just watching this Netflix show about Gordon Ramsay and his opening of a new restaurant with amazing views in the city. I'm not interested in him particularly, but thought I might go to this 'Lucky Cat' just for the views over London, if and whenever it opens.

BUT - then there is a scene where he is consulting with his head chef about the menu and there is a whole dead baby suckling pig on a plate. They are talking about making this a restaurant feature, requiring two chefs who carve it at your table.

AIBU to think this is obscene? Yes, I'm vegetarian, but I think even most meat eaters would balk at this?

If I were in his restaurant and that was going at the the next table, I would leave. Wtf is wrong with humans?

Not to mention that this will not exactly appeal to his potential Muslim customers.

What a bizarre thread and even weirder thing to highlight.

should all Asian restaurants stop selling pork?

paloma7 · 27/02/2026 17:54

Yes it is more honest. Nevertheless, no meat eater I know would order that.

"Pigs are grown for slaughter and for us to eat - what difference does it make at what stage in their lives they are slaughtered?"

Oh dear.

What an excellent, well reasoned response 😂

I am vegetarian but I'm not going to tell other people what they can or can't eat.

What I find obscene is the making a spectacle of the whole dead animal. Like it's supposed to be a 'wow' factor. What can possibly be 'wow' about a baby pig, slaughtered at birth. To me, it's totally unnecessary and actually depraved.

Agree but then This is very Gordon Ramsay
complete lack of understanding of others
Being a shit is what’s made him famous

Meanwhile

‘ Gordon Ramsay's reputation as the tough guy of British cuisine will be severely dented tonight, following Channel 4's decision to screen footage of his pet pigs being taken to the abattoir.
Viewers of The F-Word will see Ramsay moved almost to tears, as he watches the Berkshire sows, Trinny and Susannah, go under the slaughterman's knife ‘

So he does get it he’s just too ignorant to translate that to how all of his customers may be affected by this pointless display

I feel the opposite- it's much more honest to eat a pig that looks like a pig. To me it's far more obscene to eat a chicken nugget shaped like a dinosaur or whatever.

Why would it be bankers showing off? Have you ever been to a Chinese restaurant op?!?!

Well, lots of us on here are telling you we would order it.

Sounds delicious.

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 27/02/2026 17:58

It's delicious, that's the only thing that matters..

As for comments about Muslims, they'll go somewhere that serves halal meat.

You mean they aren’t dinosaurs!? I’m shocked.

If you ordered veal, would you want the cow's head on the table while you ate?

Yes, people know where meat comes from, but many of them don't like to dwell on it too much. No meat eater I know would be particularly delighted with the head of a lamb, pig or cow on the table while they ate. Let's be honest.

I know plenty who are absolutely delighted with head of lamb served!

AlcoholicAntibiotic · 27/02/2026 17:59

Looks like he’s just jumping on a bit of a suckling pig bandwagon!

There will be vegetarians in the restaurant on any given night and the sight of something like that being wheeled through will be distressing for many of his customers.

Went to a wedding in Portugal where a roast suckling pig(let) formed the centrepiece of the buffet that was available into the early hours of the morning (after the three course main meal had been served).

“Leitão à Bairrada is a quintessential, luxurious dish often served at Portuguese wedding receptions, featuring a whole piglet, 2–6 weeks old, roasted to achieve extremely crispy skin and tender meat. Originating from the Bairrada region, it is seasoned with garlic, bay leaves, and pepper, typically served with orange slices, homemade potato chips, and sometimes sparkling wine.”

Apparently it is also traditional for the bride and groom to be among the last to leave (3AM/4AM or later), so the buffet is to keep everyone going through the night!

Bruisername · 27/02/2026 18:00

My mums favourite thing to eat is tete de veau so I’ve been thoroughly traumatised through my life.

have you ever seen all the ducks in China town?

Then they should check the menu first and not go if they’d find it distressing.

YABU for watching such tripe in the first place!

properidiot · 27/02/2026 18:00

I wouldn't balk at it - I'm a meat eater and I love pork.

Sounds a bit like a hog roast or something which I love.

Of course it's done for effect and we're all talking about it!
