While the vote in Gorton and Denton may be described as a 'protest' vote the strength of both the Greens and Reform performance is something to worry all of us not just Labour.

For the avoidance of doubt, the leaders of the greens are now protesting IN SUPPORT of a barbaric and radical Islamic regime that forcibly suppresses and kills women for not following strict Islamic rules, and massacres tens of thousands of its own young people for protesting.

Leftist defence incoming in 3…2…1….

How is that support justified by anyone?

Do they read what the regime has done, the mutilation and atrocities?

Abolishing private landlords sounds like an absolutely brilliant idea

Not doesn't. Where on earth will people live? Especially people moving areas for new jobs etc, people leaning uni, starting over after divorce and all the miriad of situations where buying is neither desirable or practical and where they wouldn't be eligible for social housing/ social housing takes too long to access.

Private landlords fulfil a necessary role.

The basics as I see it are that both labour and conservative have failed their core voters. Neither have delivered what the centre right or centre left want and have become a jumbled mess of who knows what. Neither party has any soul. I’m very much a god king and country type but the conservatives are no longer that. Equally if you are a traditional labour voter all you’ve seen is rich Islington elites pushing trans rights and free Palestine at the expense of what matters to you trying to make ends meet day to day. Both parties have completely lost their core values and voting base, and this is why there is the huge political shift happening in this country.

So, in steps reform and the Green Party. Reform’s tactics are pretty easy to understand - sell the Britain first message and restore national pride. This will appeal to huge numbers of voters who are tired of being called racist or nazi for being concerned about large scale unchecked immigration that has seen public services and traditional communities ripped apart. They were promised that Brexit would deliver control of our borders but in reality it has achieved nothing of the sort.

And then the Green’s. I can see the strategic playbook a mile off. Align yourself with Palestine and trans rights and attract vast swathes of voters to your cause. A home for the guardianista academic types who would have traditionally voted labour married uncomfortably to at the very least conservative Islam, if not radical, and of course the woke elements of the current culture wars. Clever really. Does this voting base care about deforestation or the plight of polar bears? Some might but who really cares, the greens are tired of having no seats in parliament and this is their opportunity given the void left by the traditional Labour Party. They are debating shortly on whether Zionism should be equated with racism, and in essence supporting a single Palestinian state which will eradicate Israel and align the Green Party with the stated goals of Hamas. This motion is being tabled by Lubna Speitan a member of various pro-Palestinian groups. This is the same Hamas lest we forget who raped and slaughtered women and babies amongst others on October 7th 2023. Make no mistake that this is antisemitism dressed up with blonde hair and a green jacket.

Support who you want but do it with your eyes open.

WELL SAID!

JuliettaCaeser · 01/03/2026 08:10

Agree with all that so much.

My fear is that actually there is not much politicians can do. I think Keir Starmer is a decent man and am sure he wants the best for the country. But everything is so global now including the economy/ tax etc. Surely if he could have fixed it he would have? That’s what scares me that the power is elsewhere and ordinary people are now very vulnerable.

Which courses are useless - just out of interest?

The CEO said some/many Computer Science degree courses didn't have the content that reflected technology changes or practiced the languages that are most commonly used. His intention was to hire 100% UK graduates, on great salaries, but the UK universities don't produce the number of CS grads with the required skills.

My guess is that the Government won't respond, until it's too late and in the meantime companies will decide to go offshore to get the skills.Too little/too late seems to be common theme.

I’ll just leave this here for all you Greens fans who still think the party is still about environmental causes…

https://x.com/HeidiBachram/status/2027801087877812595?s=20

This is really frightening. The party that has just won a stunning by-election victory has a deputy leader openly supporting a regime that hangs 16 year old girls for 'immorality'. Yes, it's a captured party. I wish people would wake up.

If you look at my post of 15:34, Democracy Volunteers confirmed that in some instances they made polling station staff aware of their concerns.

That is not in the report on their website. Why would they omit this crucial piece of information?

PrettyDamnCosmic · 01/03/2026 09:02

ZoeCM · 28/02/2026 20:41

But surely if the volunteers had just seen families turning up at the station to vote, they wouldn't even have mentioned it? It's not remotely unusual for family members over eighteen to go to the polling station together.

It's not remotely unusual for family members over eighteen to chat to one another while within the polling station either but that could be interpreted as collusion or coercion. This is why it's important that their report details exactly what it is they are alleging occurred.

Don’t you have to have a level of English to get citizenship and therefore the right to vote?

To be eligible to vote in the UK you need to have either be British or Irish or a Commonwealth citizen with right to remain. There is no English language test.

If this "family voting " is true, ie male family members telling the women how to vote doesn't anyone else think we have far deeper issues ?

I cannot fathom telling my two DC.how to vote or trying to!
One has just turned 18 and it's exciting to me that she has this right . I also wouldnt ask.her who she voted for and wouldn't care .

Your own family with western liberal values had little to offer you in terms of insight into voting into some not all of the Islamic areas of the country. You haven't, after all, shipped them abroad for FGM or forced marriage, for which there have been recent convictions.

In very traditional Moslem areas there is a strong risk that men will be told how to vote by the Imam and the women told how to vote by the men. Whilst this would be illegal, so is FGM and forced marriage, yet it still goes on. You would then have one man exercising huge influence over who gets elected, from a religious basis in a secular country. This stuff matters for democracy. One person one vote secret ballots are a foundation stone of a civilised society.

BIossomtoes · 01/03/2026 09:29

FGM is not a religious practice nor is it associated with Islam. Shame on you.

Unlike France, for example where you do need to speak French. I personally think that anyone wishing to become a British citizen should be able to speak English.

The British Citizen test is in English, so they will be speaking English.

Or is that not what you meant?

peanutbuttertoasty · 01/03/2026 09:45

I looked it up yesterday and to get British citizenship you apparently need to be able to demonstrate that you can speak English, so in theory you cannot vote if you cannot speak English (as it should be)

But there is no English language test. In any case somebody else(who does speak/write in English) can fill in the form in behalf of an applicant e.g. when it's online.

To acquire British citizenship by naturalisation you need to be able to demonstrate that you can read, write & speak English. If you are British by birth there is no such requirement.

There are more Catholics than Muslims (including myself) and no one is up in arms about us, and beliefs are very similar to Islam

Can you explain?

Most Catholics in the country are Catholic in name only.
