While the vote in Gorton and Denton may be described as a 'protest' vote the strength of both the Greens and Reform performance is something to worry all of us not just Labour.

Yes, it is illegal. And all poll staff have training to identify undue influence. If they had seen it, they would have stepped in.

'would'

That's quite the assumption.

Why would DV lie?

Are you unhappy with independent observers monitoring the vote?

Pleasealexa · 28/02/2026 12:14

Anyone doubting the impact of a good strategy need only look at our neighbours, Ireland. Ireland's GDP is now double the UK's. They are getting the tax revenues, through attracting companies with lower Corporation tax.

Why indeed? Odd that nobody else who was present will corroborate their account.

Because I think they’re a waste of time and space. If elections are to be monitored - and I absolutely think they should - it should be by people with the power to address any breaches on the spot. I’ve already explained why I think they’re pointless ad nauseum.

I just looked at their site. Why do you think they would @soddingspiderseason?

It looks more like you dont like what observers have reported in this case so are attacking the whole idea of elections observers in general. It may not be that, but that seems the most obvious explanation.

You can draw whatever conclusions you wish. My reasons are logical and fact based. I really don’t care what groundless assumptions you decide to make. Everything I’ve said applies in every case.

climbintheback · 28/02/2026 12:32

how many observers would it take to stop half a dozen men ushering granny and auntie into a booth - and there may be 6-8-10 booths!

peanutbuttertoasty · 28/02/2026 12:36

Hence it needs enforcing properly. I imagine some of these people can be very intimidating and not above threats of physical violence.

I also think there should be strict photo ID requirements, possibly biometric in the future. And postal votes should be abolished as too open to abuse.

This didn't happen 🙄

Neither was the vote rigged

I don't believe it happened either. People are just sore that the Greens won and are using anything to try and undermine the result

So you think there could be up to 60 men at a time attempting this? Seriously?

scottishgirl69 · 28/02/2026 13:08

This group apparently accused people in Glasgow of this in 2022 - 25 per cent was the estimate

It seems to be if a group of people walk into a polling booth together it's classed as family voting

It’s not unskilled jobs getting squeezed out by AI. It’s a raft of white collar jobs.

I disagree. I work in a bank and thousands of admin jobs are going due to AI. These jobs aren't considered white collar jobs. AI can easily take over data inputting and back office customer roles.

You can offer to take the kids to Disneyland and everyone can get excited and be really happy.

It's a bit shit though when the reality is you thought the £200 for five holiday to Disneyland was too good to be true, but you paid for it anyway and now you can't get your money bank because the conman running the website has fucked off.

The Green will turn out to be like this.

Absolutely. The Greens aren't stupid. Theyve toned down their open borders rhetoric because they're reading the room. They know they can win over Labour supporters but are conscious re the unrest about immigration. But we all know once they got in they would revert to type. Like all other parties ultimately do.

That’s pragmatism for you. It works. But trying that here in the current political climate will just have all the lefties crying about the unfairness of it. Even though in the long run, it’s better for everyone 🤷🏻‍♀️

Pluto46 · 28/02/2026 13:57

The Green Party should be forced to rename themselves - you only need to read these threads to know that vast swathes of the electorate in the UK are clueless. Someone asked on another thread what the Green Party had to do with the Left ! ......half the idiots think they are still all about hugging pandas

Ireland also benefits by being in the EU.

Vast swathes of the electorate vote for tories and reform, clearly completely clueless themselves. They're exactly what you call "low information voters".

So do you think that official observers who have no power to intervene only to observe and report are pointless in general or just at elections.

Do you think that UN Peacekeeping observers are pointless or legal police observers or in scientific studies?

Don’t be silly - just saying one observer can’t do anything about one booth never mind 10!
