Made to feel uncomfortable

Now I’m all for people wearing what they want but I do think there is a time and a place. My husband was in the health club last night relaxing in the jacuzzi when a group of young women in their early 20s wearing bikinis that left little to the imagination (think thong bottoms and boobs barely covered) started parading around. They came into the jacuzzi which I know they’re entitled to do, however 2 sat next to him and 2 directly facing. It’s quite a big jacuzzi so they had no need to sit where they did. He was the only male in. He felt he had no option to leave as this made him feel quite uncomfortable. Now I may be unreasonable in my thinking but I do think if the shoe was on the other foot and a male was to strut around the poolside in a thong or a group of men where to sit in an empty jacuzzi in close proximity to a female complaints would be made.

I do too but my swimming pool has single sex showers. So it's easy to make sure that you are actually clean. I would hate the showers described in the OP and probably chose not to go there or find somewhere else to shower first. But wearing a swimming costume over unwashed skin and then quickly running under the shower is modest but isn't actually going to clean you at all. Basically, everyone needs to wash their arse before getting into water shared with others. I don't care how that happens. But it needs to happen.

Mine doesn't. At poolside or in the health suite

'I feel very sorry for boys and young men constantly being told that they are perverts and misogynists'

The op's dh described them 'rubbing their breasts and arses' 'strutting' and 'parading'as if putting on a show to titillate him. If men don't want to be seen as creeps and pervs they need to change their language.

The op herself said they 'knew what they were doing'. So all in all a very judgemental household. I hope they don't have kids.

Obviously! He should have said, 'Hey love, there were some beautiful empowered feminist women at the spa, enjoying their sexuality and displaying their bodies, as is their right! It made me feel very uncomfortable, and they were obviously trying to embarrass me, which is what I totally deserve because I'm a horrible pervert and a misogynist, like all men! I'm so sorry, and I will do better in future. By the way, let's tell our son that if he ever sees a woman with her tits out and feels anything other than a thrill of feminist celebration for the rights of women to do whatever the fuck they like, regardless of others, we'll disown him."

Climbingrosexx · 20/02/2026 18:42

I am with you on this one op, if this was the other way around complaints would have been made, the men would probably have been asked to leave and MN would be baying for blood!

He should have said I was having a solo jacuzzi and some women came in. I felt uncomfortable being a lone male in a women's group so left.

That is what he should have said. No parading, no breast and bum talk, no strutting.

I've shared saunas with men before and never made a complaint about then - why do you think people who work in leisure centres treat women differently from men?

HighLadyofTheNightCourt · 20/02/2026 18:44

Flukingflukes · 20/02/2026 09:36

I agree with you @Scottishlassie10 . Such skimpy outfits aren’t appropriate for that situation and if a man turned up in a thong, that would be inappropriate. So what’s the difference?

Why would it be inappropriate?

Flamingojune · 20/02/2026 18:44

scottishgirl69 · 20/02/2026 18:31

There weren't any children there as far as I'm aware. Certainly in the health suite I go to - kids aren't allowed in

And if kids were there, would they cover up?

CurlyhairedAssassin · 20/02/2026 18:44

Emptyandsad · 20/02/2026 18:23

Your poor husband! He's soooo hot and sexy that the girls just can't resist fawning all over him. They were definitely trying to cop off with him - and who can blame them. Lucky he's got so much self restraint and moral fibre

Can you at least not try to compile an intelligent post with some consideration to the important issues and arguments , rather than the type of ridiculous hyperbole written by a teenager?

scottishgirl69 · 20/02/2026 18:45

Flamingojune · 20/02/2026 18:44

I have no idea but I have never worked or been a member of a gym that's allowed kids into a steam room or sauna

goz · 20/02/2026 18:25

I’m going to go out on a limb and suggest it’s the people who think a woman simply existing in a spa in a bikini are the ones who have an issue with breastfeeding in public, not the people who thinks is no big deal if a woman wears a smaller bikini “.

Not sure i agree

Scottishskifun · 20/02/2026 18:46

PevenseygirlQQ · 20/02/2026 13:38

In that case do you think men should also wear T-shirts or swimming tops with their trunks (no speedos) also as they are not sunbathing?

No that would be akin to saying women should wear all in one swim suits down to there knees.

But a itsy bitsy thong bikini is unnecessary for a swimming pool not to mention very unpractical for actual swimming!

goz · 20/02/2026 18:46

Flamingojune · 20/02/2026 18:44

Children wouldn’t be in a spa. Again the irrelevant strawman arguments are beyond pointless.

Pretty sure no one is swimming in a jacuzzi.

It’s the fact she says he let it go, that ghey were all rubbing their breasts and bums in unison, I mean what am I even reading.

if my husband came back and said this shite to me and then started detailing their skimpy bikinis I’d know without a shadow of a doubt he was sitting perving on them and this was his fantasy take, if I’d watched the interaction with the op and hee husband I’d think what a perv he is and he’s talking shite, and what a foolish woman the op is.

the whole thing is just nauseating that this couple sat there in their home talking in this misogynistic manner about these young women.

This
I mean if he came home and said that there were some young girls in little bikinis so he felt a bit awkward and left that would be one thing.. but he has described them parading and strutting, rubbing their breasts and buttocks and sitting right next to him. Sounds really icky tbh. I know my DH would have given them a quick glance, been embarrassed and looked away. He certainly wouldn’t be looking long enough to know their wash routine.
Also would these young women be wanting to crack on to the husband or even embarrass him? I would bet my last pound they didn’t give him a second thought.
Also wearing skimpy attire is normal especially when you’re young. I remember the days of low slung jeans with your thong poking out and the middle aged women then hand wringing 🤣
Lighten up OP and tell your husband to stop staring at young women in the shower.

The whole world seems to treat men differently, if we take this at face value and what OPs husband has said is the truth, men would never have got away with it. I am not talking about men and women sharing facilities where everyone keeps a respectful distance, it doesn't sound like that happened in this case. Like I say if a woman was posting saying it had happened to her then MN would want blood no questions asked

goz · 20/02/2026 18:29

Covering and not covering are different things. Hope that helps.

These women did not have their nipples out, no one had their dick out. It’s not relevant, no one’s getting a pass for flashing because that’s not what happened.

🙄
Who said anything about not covering?
No, its about half hanging out

I'm not interested in what people on mumsnet would want to be honest. I form my own opinions. I personally wouldn't want blood if five men in speedos came into a jacuzzi I was sitting in. I would probably leave but only because Im not good at being on my own and people trying to make small talk with me which happens in these situations sometimes - the point seems to be their skimpy briefs and the way they washed themselves - I didn't see any suggestion that he felt sexually harassed

So this is a group of young women, and your husband - 60ish, I'm guessing? He thought they were coming on to him because of their mode of dress and temerity to have a shower while he watched.
They weren't interested in him.
I think he's protesting too much! 😂

He never thought that at all.

All these people complaining that men would never get away with acting like total pigs towards women in public (by which I do not mean using a jacuzzi or showering while in swimwear) are talking such rubbish. Men get away with it all the time and women get blamed.

Or is that nicely covered in your eyes 🤣

So the husband left when he felt uncomfortable and left the girls to it?

Wouldn't it make sense to have separate male and female showers at least?

I dare say there are separate showers in the changing room area, I prefer tgese as I feel I can have a good rinse before entering the water...it's whether people choose to use those before entering the pool/jacuzzi area.

illbetheresunorrain · 20/02/2026 19:00

as well as him sounding to have been made sexually uncomfortable, he has social anxiety also...but why did you make a post about it?

last summer we went to a beach and young women , quite fat on top of that, with thongs were bending over , laughing , twerking at some of their male companions and running around - it did not make me feel uncomfortable, as I am not lesbian, but boy, did I raise my old eyebrows, you becha
