Made to feel uncomfortable

Scottishlassie10 · 20/02/2026 09:17

Now I’m all for people wearing what they want but I do think there is a time and a place. My husband was in the health club last night relaxing in the jacuzzi when a group of young women in their early 20s wearing bikinis that left little to the imagination (think thong bottoms and boobs barely covered) started parading around. They came into the jacuzzi which I know they’re entitled to do, however 2 sat next to him and 2 directly facing. It’s quite a big jacuzzi so they had no need to sit where they did. He was the only male in. He felt he had no option to leave as this made him feel quite uncomfortable. Now I may be unreasonable in my thinking but I do think if the shoe was on the other foot and a male was to strut around the poolside in a thong or a group of men where to sit in an empty jacuzzi in close proximity to a female complaints would be made.

If a man did that we’d believe it. We simply don’t believe four young women walked in in skimpy bikinis and stood there slowly rubbing their breasts ans arses.

At no point did I say they did it slowly. Please don’t twist things.

Quite. There’s no logic to wearing one in an indoor setting like this other than wishing to show off your arse. It’s exhibitionistic.

Perhaps it’s the only swim attire they’ve bought and own?

How does a bikini "make someone feel good"?

In the same way that any other item of clothing can make someone feel good. In my case, that's something not too tight and preferably warm and stretchy. But different people have different preferences.

Goonyoucanaskme · 20/02/2026 17:28

Scottishlassie10 · 20/02/2026 10:23

He’s not blaming them per se and yes they were enjoying the facilities. By the same token if the women can’t be blamed for him feeling the way he did then women need to stop blaming men if their behaviour makes them feel uncomfortable and accept it’s a their problem. You can’t have two different sets of rules.

Is making this point the purpose of your thread?
If these women didn't speak to or touch your husband, I can't see their behaviour as intimidating. He could surely look the other way or relax and close his eyes, if he didn't want to watch them walking about and having showers and whatever before the got in. So long as they didn't touch him, there's nothing wrong with sitting beside or opposite him. Not many leisure club jacuzzis are large enough for 5 people to use without being quite close to each other.
I agree that if a group of men strutted around posing and making suggestive comments while a lone woman sat in the jacuzzi, that would raise objections, but nothing comparable to that seems to have happened.

You cannot be serious!

Only women with perfect bodies wear bikinis, women size 14 and he wouldn’t bother to look.

Your view is dreadful, I would hoe you don’t pass these views to any DDs you have.

Only women with perfect bodies wear bikinis, do you not go swimming or too the beach? WTF!!

To be honest a lot of men like women to be a bit chunkier. It’s been in vogue to have a sizeable arse for a while now, to the extent women are paying to have arse fillers so yeah many men would love to ogle over a size 14 or even 16- shock horror!

Scottishlassie10 · 20/02/2026 17:31

FlyingApple · 20/02/2026 14:59

So if he doesn't think they fancied him, why did he say they knew what they were doing when they rubbed their boobs in the shower? What were they doing then?

He never said they knew what they were doing.

Do you really have to ask this question?
Do you not understand the difference in power dynamics? Or than men pose a physical threat to women?

I would have thought in this case, and many more like it, these particular women didn't feel in the least bit threatened or uncomfortable in this man's company, so there's no need to keep trolling out that same excuse when it doesn't apply.

Gloriia · 20/02/2026 17:32

'Lots of cool wives here. I knew exactly what sort of bikini OP was talking about when she tried to explain in first post. Barely there bikinis that are the size of a postage stamp'

I'm not a cool wife. Thank God though that my dh has never described young women rubbing their breasts and bums in the shower at a pool.

Women are allowed to wear bikinis 'postage stamp size' or other.

Stop blaming women for mens inability to control their revolting thoughts.

I think there's a shred of a reasonable point here. It does seem the etiquette on how revealing its acceptable for swimwear to be in a public bathing space has changed, with parts of the body that were once covered now not always, and I think that an element of discomfort at seeing something you're not used to seeing in public is understandable.
Where it all went a bit wrong was with the silly false equivalence between a man who's seen more female flesh than he thinks proper and a woman who is joined in the hot tub by 4 or 5 men. Obviously her 'discomfort' would be different from a man's on account of the very different patterns of behaviour between men and women, and which sex is more likely to be harassed, and which more likely to be simply a bit embarrassed.

Totally this. They were no threat, it does not compare with one woman with men.

Scottishlassie10 · 20/02/2026 17:33

rainbowsandraspberrygin · 20/02/2026 15:07

But men are so heavily criticised nowadays (and I agree with why!) that they might feel uncomfortable because they don’t know where to look.

nobody mentioned getting hot and bothered.

I’ll say it again - if some men wearing thongs and or tight teeny speedos got in a jacuzzi and sat close to me I would feel uncomfortable. So why is that ok for women to feel like that and men not?

it’s double standards and hypocrisy.

That’s exactly it. He didn’t know where to look. So he left.

He never said they knew what they were doing.

'He let that go but it was fairly obvious from what he says, they knew what they were doing'

True it was you who said 'they knew what they were doing' after his gratuitous absolutely inappropriate descriptions. Was he rubbing his hands as he said it like Benny Hill?

Imdunfer · 20/02/2026 17:34

I hate seeing the bums hanging out but to be honest the fat women with their aprons pulling their costume open at the groin are far worse if you happen to glance in the wrong direction and everything is at eye height as they get into or out of the pool. Men in speedos when not racing or competitive diving are just yuk.

But people wear what they wear. There is no obligation to ogle, which the OP's husband was clearly doing from the detail with which he was able to describe their actions.

The one at fault here is him, and he's lucky the girls chose to take the piss out of him by sitting too close in the jacuzzi rather than reporting him to reception as a creep (though maybe they did both).

Scottishlassie10 · 20/02/2026 17:35

Catlover77 · 20/02/2026 15:28

You are getting a hard time on here OP. The thong bikinis with just triangle material covering nipples are horrendous on the beach, never mind a pool. And I have seen girls at the spa parading (yes parading, not walking) and looking around for attention. It is rather pathetic to see, and I can understand why he felt uncomfortable

Thank you.

Yes when we go to a public area where various ages/ sizes have various attire on for pools and spas then we will of course see a variety of body shapes and that is fine! Bum cheeks 'hanging out' on an obese person I can imagine are as unsightly as these apparently shocking bum cheeks from thong wearers.

You just avert your eyes don't you. It is good manners not to stare.

Scottishlassie10 · 20/02/2026 17:40

wrongthinker · 20/02/2026 15:36

I think this has got out of hand. People on this thread are accusing a 12 year old of 'body shaming' because she thinks having to see everyone's bare arse is gross. Maybe have a bit of empathy for the girl who is essentially being flashed by tits and arses when she's trying to have fun swimming. I remember seeing glamour images at that age and finding it deeply uncomfortable and embarrassing.

This idea that women can wear whatever they want and it's fine and if you don't want to see their vulvas/arses/boobs then you're weird and misogynist - where the hell has this come from?

I suspect it's originally about the message that women aren't to blame for being raped or assaulted and it doesn't matter what they're wearing - which is absolutely correct and needed to be said/still needs to be said. But that doesn't mean that women have no responsibility for their behaviour in public. You still need to be reasonably covered up so that you're not flashing people.

I think people can do whatever they like, as long as it's pro-social. But when people insist on behaving in a way that makes others feel awkward or uncomfortable, we should draw a line. There's nothing misogynist about this.

Well put.

Bit different though if at a distance, then you suddenly get a group crammed in with you. I'd have felt uncomfortable too, whether they were male or female.

persephonia · 20/02/2026 17:46

BringBackTheLight · 20/02/2026 09:35

Honestly, the bikini thing is up to them what they wear. But If I was sat alone in the hot tub at the gym and a group of men came and sat overly close to me when there was plenty room not to I'd feel uncomfortable too and intimidated.

I'd leave too in that situation
I would feel really uncomfortable just me and a bunch of random men in a gottub. Probably even more so if they were in things but even boxers I would get out...
But, those men (assuming they weren't doing anything sexually harassing) wouldn't have been doing anything wrong in that scenario. I don't have the right to say they can't wear swimwear or use the hottub while I was there. Which is why I would leave

I was in a jacuzzi thing once (at the public swimming pool with a toddler or I wouldn't have gone) and a guy got in and started picking at his manky feet. That was gross.

But the girls weren't doing anything wrong. Your husband wasn't doing anything wrong by leaving
