Cleaner - unsatisfied

We decided to get a deep clean done of our house post-dog, unfortunately. The lady came around yesterday and all went well etc, we got out of her way and everything seemed fine when we got home. However, for a deep clean I'm not overly satisfied. There's still dust on top of mirrors, dirty spots on bathroom floors, some skirting boards missed and behind toilets too.
Am I being completely unreasonable here to expect these things to be done? I messaged her saying for the most part she has done a great job, but mentioned the above, sent photos, and she basically said thanks for the feedback but on the list of jobs she does behind toilets isnt mentioned...? But surely for a deep clean they would be done? Also, just to say. She did say inside and outside of cupboards are done. Those weren't either. But dont really want to get in an argument pointing things out! Just feel a bit ripped off.

Was this a one off clean and not a cleaner you usually use?

LaurieFairyCake · 14/02/2026 12:54

How many hours, did she have long enough ?

I ask because I had an end of tenancy clean done once and it took 5 hours of an empty house. Was £280 (about 8 years ago). Yes they did everything, every cupboard/behind loos etc

Thattimenow · 14/02/2026 12:54

How long did you have her over for?

No, was just a one off clean

Do you usually have a cleaner? How long was she there for? How did you hear about her?

She didn't say she was time limited, just said she doesnt like to give a time and just does whatever it takes 'it'll be like a new home when I'm done'

No, it was a one off clean. I asked for recommendations on a local FB group and she came up a few times and was available when I wanted someone.

Oh, and she was here for about 3 hours

It takes two of us 5 hours to do an end of tenancy clean, and it is spotless at the end. So I very much doubt one person can do a 'deep clean' in the time allocated.

nondrinker1985 · 14/02/2026 13:01

Hard to do a deep clean like you’re asking in 3 hours - but sounds like she did a 3 hour job - how much did it cost?

Thattimenow · 14/02/2026 13:02

3 hours for an entire house deep clean??!!
Oh come on

Yeah I was expecting her to be here longer to be honest. She didn't give a time limit at all, just said she takes as long as needed. It was 175.

I have my cleaner once a week for 3 hours

and when she does a deep clean when I’m on holiday… 5 hours

and the starting point is already very clean!

You handed over £175 for 3 hours?

Yeah apparently so...i'd left the money on the side, silly probably and she just messaged saying she saw the money and thanks very much

You don’t usually have a cleaner
and you left this first one alone and left out the £175

ok - lesson learnt I guess

Iloveeverycat · 14/02/2026 13:08

So you could have done it yourself and saved £175.

Edited

I know, I hadn't meant to leave it out but wanted to get out of her way and only realised when I'd got to the shops. Didn't expect her to be done so quickly!

I don't think you can do a deep clean in 3 hours. My cleaner does 3 hours every week

Behind toilets is part of a general clean so not sure where she gets that idea from.

rubyslippers · 14/02/2026 13:12

She’s absolutely ripped you off
that’s appalling of her
a deep clean of a house is minimum 5 hours of there was two people hammering away
3 hours is a standard clean

id leave her a review on the FB group
shes a chancer not a cleaner

Thattimenow · 14/02/2026 13:13

LAM1407 · 14/02/2026 13:11

Leaving out £175 whilst you leave a cleaner alone in your house that you’d never met before - is also a bit outrageous
