Cleaner - unsatisfied

We decided to get a deep clean done of our house post-dog, unfortunately. The lady came around yesterday and all went well etc, we got out of her way and everything seemed fine when we got home. However, for a deep clean I'm not overly satisfied. There's still dust on top of mirrors, dirty spots on bathroom floors, some skirting boards missed and behind toilets too.
Am I being completely unreasonable here to expect these things to be done? I messaged her saying for the most part she has done a great job, but mentioned the above, sent photos, and she basically said thanks for the feedback but on the list of jobs she does behind toilets isnt mentioned...? But surely for a deep clean they would be done? Also, just to say. She did say inside and outside of cupboards are done. Those weren't either. But dont really want to get in an argument pointing things out! Just feel a bit ripped off.

You’ve been ripped off! My cleaner does three hours every fortnight for £55.. for £175 I would expect a team of cleaners for three hours or possibly a 6 hours clean by one person.

FuzzyWolf · 14/02/2026 13:15

Unless you live in a small studio flat, that was already sparkling clean, I can’t imagine anywhere is deep cleaned in three hours. Even going over what looks to already been clean would take more than three hours, and that’s without actually cleaning on top of it.

Leaving out £175 whilst you leave a cleaner alone in your house that you’d never met before - is also a bit outrageous

Completely agree! Wasn't meant to leave it behind!

You've been completely ripped off. She said your house would look new. Unless she meant new in the sense that the builders have just finished and weren't great at cleaning up after themselves. Our cleaner is about £20 and hour. On a one-off, I'd expect to be paying a bit more, but that would maybe be 6-7 hours for £175.

She’s absolutely ripped you off
that’s appalling of her
a deep clean of a house is minimum 5 hours of there was two people hammering away
3 hours is a standard clean

id leave her a review on the FB group
shes a chancer not a cleaner

Agree with all the points here. When we had a cleaner at my old offices I had to have my attention drawn to places like behind the toilet as I’d never have thought to look there. A deep clean should be exactly that and taken 5 hours.

Thattimenow · 14/02/2026 13:22

post dog. Was this a visiting dog or your dog?

TartanMammy · 14/02/2026 13:23

She's taken you for a ride!

A tip for next time, usually when trying a new cleaner I get them to come and do a one off clean (like 2hr basic clean) and if I like the job they do I will get them back to do the rest or on regular a clean.

My cleaner is £18 an hour and I amazing, yes sometimes she misses small things but generally house is spotless when she's done. For £175 I'd be expecting something amazing. How dirty was your house to begin with?

LAM1407 · 14/02/2026 13:27

I just messaged her asking for a partial refund and she replied shes out with her kids and to stop messaging her about behind a toilet...even though I mentioned other points too. The more I get comments agreeing with me the more annoyed i'm getting!

£60 an hour - I’m in the wrong job 🤣. Did she tell you it would be £175 but didn’t specify how long she’s be? Unless you live in a 1 bed flat no one is deep cleaning in 3 hours. I’d also say cleaning behind the toilet is a very standard thing to do every clean and just proves she’s not done the agreed job at all.

Oh you stand no chance with a partial refund

but hopefully you have learned from the experience!

LAM1407 · 14/02/2026 13:28

Wasn't even that bad, usual spots needed a bit of tlc. Shower and kitchen hood etc, I basically wanted someone to come and do a reset really.

£175 for 3 hours? The cynic in me thinks that she saw the money on the side and you weren’t in the house so she just took the opportunity to call it quits and walk off with a handful of cash
I see you’ve asked for a partial refund and she doesn’t appear to be playing ball on that one so, so maybe you need to tell her exactly how much money you want returning and why and if she refuses or blocks you you go back on that Facebook page with photographs and a full explanation of what you got for £175 in three hours.

saltandvinegarpringles · 14/02/2026 13:33

I can't believe you left a total stranger in your house!

Manchestermummax3 · 14/02/2026 13:34

I am a self employed cleaner. A deep clean (depending on house size) would be a minimum of 6/8 hrs.
A standard clean would be 2 hrs every week or 3 hrs every other (minimum!)
It also largely depends on the state of the house to begin with. Honestly, ive walked into total shit shows & they expected a miracle.
Yes, I can absolutely make your limescale, scum covered shower look brand new. But my entire 3 hrs will be spent there & nothing else touched!

WeepingAngelInTheTardis · 14/02/2026 13:35

3 hours isn’t enough time for a deep clean.

dammit88 · 14/02/2026 13:35

I would leave her a bad review and tell her that's what I was going to do. She is taking the mick.

DurhamDurham · 14/02/2026 13:36

I’d leave some honest feedback on the FB page.
I think it’ll be something you learn from, for £175 I would want to be there to have a look before handing over the cash. But then I don’t have so much money I accidentally leave £175 lying around.
The cleaner was being well paid for her work, there was no excuse to be out the door in three hours. And cleaning behind the toilet should be routine.

Thattimenow · 14/02/2026 13:37

I’m curious about “post dog”!

Leave it. Your not going to get anywhere
Next time do things differently. Find out exactly what your getting for your money and for how long and don't leave money on the side for someone you don't know and who has never cleaned before

I assumed ddog had passed away. We lost our Goldie last year and I'm still finding fluff all over the house.

Isthateveryonethen · 14/02/2026 13:47

Where did you find her. I found that local ‘recommendations’ are usually friends or families of theirs. same for a nanny.

BillieWiper · 14/02/2026 13:50

So she charges nearly £60 an hour?! That's outrageous. I've never known anyone charge more than £20.

Message her and tell her she has till the end of the day to give back a partial refund or you will be posting about her on your local fb group and warning others about her.

MargeryBargery · 14/02/2026 13:56

She took almost 60 quid an hour and left you unsatisfied.
I'd be right back on the FB group with that information.

LAM1407 · 14/02/2026 13:57

Shes blocked me..so I've posted on the group warning others
