Cleaner - unsatisfied

We decided to get a deep clean done of our house post-dog, unfortunately. The lady came around yesterday and all went well etc, we got out of her way and everything seemed fine when we got home. However, for a deep clean I'm not overly satisfied. There's still dust on top of mirrors, dirty spots on bathroom floors, some skirting boards missed and behind toilets too.
Am I being completely unreasonable here to expect these things to be done? I messaged her saying for the most part she has done a great job, but mentioned the above, sent photos, and she basically said thanks for the feedback but on the list of jobs she does behind toilets isnt mentioned...? But surely for a deep clean they would be done? Also, just to say. She did say inside and outside of cupboards are done. Those weren't either. But dont really want to get in an argument pointing things out! Just feel a bit ripped off.

Huge rip off. I think £60 for 3 hours!! Deep clean would be 6 hours in my books. And then £150 wouldn’t be out the question

LAM1407 · 14/02/2026 13:02

Yeah I was expecting her to be here longer to be honest. She didn't give a time limit at all, just said she takes as long as needed. It was 175.

£175 for three hours? Wow, I'm in the wrong job.

Thattimenow · 14/02/2026 14:47

How do you know she was there for 3 hours? Door cam?

Idontthinkicandothisanymore · 14/02/2026 14:55

£175 for a whole days clean. Not 3 hours though. She’s taking the piss

CoastalCalm · 14/02/2026 15:03

Was she just cleaning alone or did she have a second cleaner there ?

Alone.

Oh, and she was here for about 3 hours

Even in an empty house that's not long enough. She did a good job on most of it, not worth complaining about.

VWT7 · 14/02/2026 15:13

I might be inclined to call her, faux-naively, to say thanks for doing the 3 hours, by your reckoning you have paid for something like 7 hours, has she a day in mind when she will come to do the “remaining hours” that you have been charged for.
And then be silent - see what she says…

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 14/02/2026 15:18

I remember booking a cleaner to come in and do a 'thorough clean' in my (large, full of pets and kids and quite untidy) house. She was very confident, I told her just to do downstairs but she could make a start on the upstairs bathroom if she had time.

She broke my hoover, didn't even move the furniture to hoover underneath, and, although I paid her for four hours, she never got round to even touching upstairs. I'm still not quite sure what she actually did do. I bought it for myself as a birthday present so I could have at least a sparkling clean downstairs and I could have done better if I'd just been left to myself to get on with it for a couple of hours.

There is little more disappointing than a naff cleaner.

That sounds pretty short for an end of tenancy clean. I’ve had a few of those and with two or three cleaners, it’s always been about 5 hours or so for a two bed flat. And each time, the place was spotless. And trust me I looked, else the landlord would have taken it out of my deposit. A proper deep clean is meant to be inside/outside/behind/on top of/below and including drawers of cupboards and cabinets. It doesn’t sound like your cleaner did a good job.

FcukBreastCancer · 14/02/2026 15:28

Bloody hek. Not good. I'd expect her to be there all day.
Is she coming back?

FcukBreastCancer · 14/02/2026 15:31

Sorry i see her returning is not happening. What a con artist.

MrFluffyDogIsMyBestFriend · 14/02/2026 16:04

If you don't usually have a cleaner, it can take two hours to deep clean one room - more if it's a bathroom.

greglet · 14/02/2026 16:59

My cleaner comes once a fortnight for three hours (costs £19 per hour) and she does a good job but it’s definitely not a deep clean! If I wanted her to do the fridge/inside cupboards/behind toilets etc then I’d have to ask her specifically and pay her for more hours.

FindleBindle · 14/02/2026 17:08

Wow, you were really ripped off.

idontgetitdoyou · 14/02/2026 17:22

I would be asking her to come back and finish the job. Totally outrageous.

NoYourNameChanged · 14/02/2026 17:26

She really fucked you over there op. What a shame, I’m sorry you’re out of pocket for her shoddy work.

rwalker · 14/02/2026 17:28

I’d say she’s done 3 hours work but her hourly rate is a complete piss take

grumpygrape · 14/02/2026 22:09

I think you were a bit naiive OP. A list of cleaning expectations, an agreed time and cost would have been basic.

CypressGrove · 14/02/2026 22:14

Did you really not agree a cost beforehand??

Drdogooder · 14/02/2026 22:15

LAM1407 · 14/02/2026 12:59

3hours isn’t very long for a deep clean. I’d expect 5-7 hours depending on size.

Livelovebehappy · 14/02/2026 22:47

We had a similar situation. Booked for a cleaner to come and deep clean my brother in laws house. It’s a small bungalow, but cleaning had been neglected since he had a stroke six months ago. She asked us during the phone booking how big the house was /how many rooms, then gave us a figure and told us it would take 8 hours. We went to the house after she left and quite a lot missed, and one room not touched at all. We called her, she admitted they hadn’t had time to finish, but hadn’t told us this before we called the following day. We gave her a bad review, booked someone else and had an entirely different experience. This one came out to look at the job needed before quoting and did an excellent job. I think it’s important to probably speak to them about what a deep clean entails, as different companies seem to have different criteria. Some clean cookers, fridges, rugs, windows, and some don’t it seems. The mistake we made was thinking all deep cleans were the same, whichever company we chose.

Economicsday · 14/02/2026 22:56

Sorry OP, but you were totally ripped off.
I would absolutely be giving her a shocking review online and by word of mouth.

Thattimenow · 15/02/2026 06:15

Did you leave a list for her when you went out?

SeaShellsSanctuary1 · 15/02/2026 07:21

When the quality and extent of a job like this is subjective then you should really have nailed down the hours that they were expected to be there.

For that price I would have expected closer to 10 hours of work but unfortunately tou have paid the price of trust
