Valentine's meal deal...people have become so shameless.

AIBU to think that people have become shameless, selfish and greedy?

I noticed the Asda Valentine's meal for two offer earlier this week: starter, main, two sides, pudding, and a bottle of wine, all for £12 quid. Amazing deal really and a nice idea for a night in together.

Went back today to get it... Absolute hoards round the fridge, loading their trollies with multiples meals worth, everything times five or six... scrambling for all the best dishes. By the times I got to the fridge there was hardly anything left.

Am I being unreasonable, or have people always been like this?? I'd be embarrassed to do that, but no-one seemed to care.

That’s because you are just an amazing person and better than us

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I bought two M&S deals and froze several items. The sell by dates on the other things were good so having different items on different days. 2 courses is ample for us.

Our Morrisons was out of the steak main which was the only one I fancied and the Waitrose one didn't have much that was very different to their usual No1 range. Our nearest Asda is too far away to bother but my neighbour went and said the meal was very nice and obviously great value at £12.

OonaStubbs · 14/02/2026 14:41

The Valentines meal deals should only be available to couples who go shopping together IMO. Otherwise greedy singletons will buy them all.

Stickytoffeetartt · 14/02/2026 14:46

I would go as far as saying that most people are greedy fu**ers with no regard for anyone else. Covid taught us this really. It hasn't changed unfortunately. Whatever about the meal deals but stockpiling tins of baby formula was the ultimate selfishness. Other babies can starve once mine is ok mentality!!

Poverty does this. For many.
Poverty brings out the worst and the best in people. Sadly food and its lack is usually the worst.

VickyEadieofThigh · 14/02/2026 14:47

Just went to our Tesco and bought one - there was loads still left and we had a nice chat with a young mum who was debating which sides to get (we advised the dauphinoise potatoes as they're VERY nice).

There was nobody else looking at them and this was 1.30pm.

About 5 years ago our local supermarket (in Canada) had a deal on rotisserie chickens, 50% off usual price or something. They neglected to put a limit per customer. A huge social media shaming occurred because some woman took 20 of them, some other customers started taking exception, staff got involved, hot cooked chickens were thrown, and eventually police were called. It turned out the woman that picked up twenty of them wanted to buy them with her own money to donate to the homeless shelter - this was verified. Anyway, I'm really pleased to finally have a place to tell this story.

Prancingpickle · 14/02/2026 14:47

Asda's Valentine's meal deal is just their finest meal deal. I get a couple of them most weeks

borntooobewild · 14/02/2026 14:50

HNRTFT but there is a reason I avoid Asda !

Sennelier1 · 14/02/2026 14:50

I wouldn't do that, maybe take a second meal if a friend had asked me to bring one for her. Can't imagine all those people buying for 6 other couples too 🤦🏼‍♀️ I think it's rude. I was raised to make sure there was something for those coming after you, even if it was a free offer.

It's just shit processed ready meals, dressed up as something special for Valentines day! I'd cook something nice instead!

True, but it’s nice to not cook if you do a lot of it every week.

JaneGrint · 14/02/2026 15:03

Maybe next year you should try and get the Valentines meal deals earlier, there’ll be less worries about things running out then?
Or lobby the supermarkets to restrict the deals and cap how many people can buy at once?
It’s not unreasonable for people to take advantage of a good deal.

Although having said that I’ve been in my local Asda several times this week and haven’t noticed any craziness near the Valentine meal deal area.

It’s not poverty to buy multiple meal deals.

I agree with a pp who said take what you need and leave some for others. That would also surely benefit those for whom s meal deal is a real treat not a “bargain”

The store should have set a limit to how many meal deals people could buy if it was that good a deal.

Usernamenotav · 14/02/2026 15:30

Erm I'm a bit confused by this really. Why can't people buy more than one? What if they're doing a family meal rather than just a couple? We don't palm our kids off on valentines day, we spend it as a family, so we would need more than one.

Silvermadmonkey · 14/02/2026 15:34

What! I just paid £25 in M+S!!

tokennamechange · 14/02/2026 15:37

Haha was going to say exactly the same!
As if the chief exec of asda is going to be crying into his cornflakes "It's only supposed to be eaten by lovers."

As pps have said, the deal has been in the shops since the start of Feb, buy it early next year if you're so bothered!

Usernamenotav · 14/02/2026 15:40

Snugglemonkey · 14/02/2026 01:35

I bought 6 valentines meal deals. 2 for tomorrow to feed my family and the other 4 as we are going to an air b and this week for 4 nights sc for half term. So I froze them ad will bring 2, eat out one night and get a takeaway one night. So I won't be cooking on holiday.

Why can't I buy 6? Who says they must be consumed on Valentine's day? It is a good deal!

Are you from Bradford 🤣 I think she caught you 😂😂
But seriously, buy as many as you want!

TheMousePipes · 14/02/2026 16:01

I did a click and collect for the Waitrose one plus some other bits and bobs. Got all the bits I wanted (hello beef wellington), avoided the busy aisle with all the people buying all the things and left feeling right pleased with myself.

Frenchfrychic · 14/02/2026 16:06

I’m also not sure if the issue op, did you miss out? People are allowed to buy multiple items in shops. They don’t need to prove it’s for Valentine’s Day usage in a romantic setting,

MsGreying · 14/02/2026 16:15

I always look online when the deal gets released. Have never managed to buy a complete deal.

ForAmusedHazelQuoter · 14/02/2026 16:15

I bought 4 Asda deals as I’m cooking for my family of 8 this evening. Why is this any different than if my family members each bought their own meal deal and ate it in their home?

But where do you draw the line at "I was raised to make sure there was something for those coming after you, even if it was a free offer"?

What if there was only 2 of the ones you really wanted for you and your friend left? Take only one so someone else could have the other?

Why is buying food in a supermarket rude?

ArtificialInaccuracy · 14/02/2026 16:22

What a strange thread. I bought a couple of these deals from Waitrose for me and my two children to share because they were good value for nice steaks, acceptable side dishes, some puddings the children will enjoy as a treat and some nice wine that I’ll drink with friends another time. I didn’t see a sign stating that the food must only be consumed with people for whom you have romantic feelings.

Supermarkets sell food. They decide to make deals available to boost sales because they want to entice people to buy this food and perhaps also buy some of their other products. Did you think staff should be querying customers’ relationship status at the checkout?

Do you get angry if people eat mini-eggs when it is not Easter Sunday, or enraged if people buy party food but aren’t actually hosting a party? Is anybody allowed pancakes if it’s not Shrove Tuesday or is that also a problem?
