To ask what you’re going to do for your child(ren) for Valentine’s Day?

I might take dd to the cinema to see and then to Nando’s and to a bakery for a cupcake. Will need to find a flower shop to buy her one red rose

I hate that it’s on a Saturday, I really don’t wanna see young teens out on dates while I’m chronically single 😂

will you do anything? No judgement if not, it’s just me and dd so I like to do this stuff

plus, when someone’s son decides to take her out when she’s older, she won’t be thrilled by literally the bare minimum!!

edit to see either Gaby’s dolls house, zootropolis 2 or The Goat (kids cartoon) - not sure which 🤷‍♀️

Is this a new thing? Valentine’s Day used to be for couples.

KatyaKat · 11/02/2026 19:50

Eh? Why would you do something for your kids for Valentine's day?

Chameleonchange · 11/02/2026 19:50

Do people do things for their DC for Valentines Day?

It's news to me!

dinkybella77 · 11/02/2026 19:50

Sounds quite OTT to me. I won't do anything. But each to their own 😀

justdontrelateanymore · 11/02/2026 19:51

Nothing here. I put valentine's celebrations in the same camp as Christmas eve boxes, personally.

Get yourself on hinge then you won’t be single by Saturday!

AuntyBulgaria · 11/02/2026 19:51

Madness!

Covidwoes · 11/02/2026 19:52

Zilch

steff13 · 11/02/2026 19:52

I always get my kids a little box of chocolates. That's what my parents did for me.

I love the "is this a new thing" posts. I have been on this site since at least 2013 and this thread comes up every single year. Just like every summer when people complain about barbecue smells and every Halloween when people complain about trick-or-treating.

ViolaChomp · 11/02/2026 19:52

I've got some tatt from the pound shop to decorate the table.. love heart napkins etc and usually get them something like a tiny box of chocolates or something silly and write a little love note for them 🥰
Any excuse to spark some joy.. why are people so against things like this?
Have a lovely day, OP.

TY78910 · 11/02/2026 19:53

Crikey the fun police is out. For someone that’s single, it is a nice way to spend the day and celebrate ‘love’.

OP, I do have a DP but also no childcare so it is a family day for us. We will likely go out to lunch / dinner and a nice valentines desert. the youngest is too little for cinema but it sounds like you planned a perfect day. You enjoy yourself!

ColdAsAWitches · 11/02/2026 19:53

I won't do anything. I don't know anyone that does. Please don't let this become a thing!

MinPinSins · 11/02/2026 19:53

I'm not in a romantic relationship with him, so nothing. Also don't plan to get him anything for mother's day.

CharlotteSometimeslikesanafternoonnap · 11/02/2026 19:53

Nothing because that's weird. My ex mil used to send my then husband valentine's day cards - it's really fucking weird. And yes, she was doing it 30 years ago, so it's not new - but it's still fucking weird.

AgentPidge · 11/02/2026 19:54

Nothing. It's for lovers.

Minky719 · 11/02/2026 19:54

Aw that sounds lovely - a nice day out for you and DD!
we are taking 8 week old DD to her first bay sensory session. It’s a Valentines themed one and she’s started being so much more engaged over the past week so she should enjoy it. It also gets DH and I out the house and we’ll go for some lunch afterwards. So a treat for all of us.

callmemargo · 11/02/2026 19:55

Nothing at all

dementedpixie · 11/02/2026 19:55

Ive never done anything for the kids for valentines day. Dh and ds (19) are going to watch rugby and im going out for lunch with a couple of female friends. Dd (22) is staying at home and having peace by herself

Fireside10 · 11/02/2026 19:56

I think people are being harsh OP, yes I don't think it should be the next 'expected' big thing but it's a nice excuse to have a treat with your child if you want to. I get my DS a chocolate heart or something and he normally makes me a card. Obviously I don't expect it but he's 4 and I found they did this sort of thing at nursery.

LaMarschallin · 11/02/2026 19:56

This is another of those things that would seem really strange if it was a father doing something like this for his daughter on Valentine's Day, imo.

FionnulaTheCooler · 11/02/2026 19:56

I'm taking mine for a haircut and then we might get a McDonald's after as she's been wanting one of the Friends collectable toys.

Usernamenotfound1 · 11/02/2026 19:56

Funnily enough I have no interest in a romantic date with my children.

Halfblindbunny · 11/02/2026 19:57

Nothing because I am not in a romantic relationship with them.

pizzaHeart · 11/02/2026 19:57

My DD has additional needs so can’t be left at home on her own. So we will have the same plan as usual for Valentine’s Day/ Saturday - a bit nicer dinner and watching TV.

I’m 45. My mum still gets me and my sisters chocolates and a fun card.
