Was anyone a fan but now is a bit....done?

I was, of her music, didn't really follow her much (her personal life)

But after her shitty album, the texts made public in the BL/JB controversy and now the Opalite video yet AGAIN making digs at her fiances ex, who is now getting bullied online...I just think I see her for who she is and I can't separate the music from the artist

I think I may be a retired 'swiftie'

She's nearing 40 for god's sake....it's all very mean girl

"Let someone else have a turn".... Do you say the same about all successful creatives? FFS Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg you have enough Oscars why are you still directing. And as for Steven King, he really should just shuffle away and burn his typewriter. Meryl Streep.better never act in another film...greedy bitch.

Someone who is a brilliant business women = "calculated". Have a word with yourself.

Exactly this. ^

Have to say though. I don't see such vitriol (on here) aimed at any man in music... Or any man at all who is famous actually! Then again, not many women seem to get as much negativity on here as Taylor Swift!

It seems to bother some people that a beautiful, privileged, middle class woman is very successful and hugely popular... No-one in the world of celebrity at the moment seems to receive such negative comments on here. I don't know why Taylor Swift does. It's really strange. She is a really nice, inoffensive, harmless, genuine, friendly kind of person, yet the hatred for her (from some) is fierce.

What on earth does 'everything is calculated' even mean? I can only surmise that poster means clever, smart, savvy, and talented. Coz that's what Taylor Swift is. She is a very smart businesswoman, as well as being talented, beautiful, and hardworking.

Why is she so disliked on here (by some?) A thread bashing her pops up every other week. I don't get it. Genuinely I don't.

SirQuintus · 09/02/2026 17:58

It's human nature. There is no one person who everyone will like or even agree is attractive. It must be hell to be in the public eye because you can look exceptionally beautiful to some but there will be those who say you are too fat, too thin, bad teeth, wide nose, hairy arms, horrible feat, repulsive voice and so on.

People have varying opinions and lots of people enjoy attacking and criticising others. Internet trolls abound as well. It's just life sadly.

Zov · 09/02/2026 17:59

But @SirQuintus it's always Taylor Swift! Well nearly always. She receives more vitriol on Mumsnet than ANYone. It's bizarre!

EverythingIsComputer · 09/02/2026 10:19

I’d love her to just let someone else have a turn, stop releasing multiple versions of albums that clog up the charts and rinse your fans.

Everything feels so calculated with her. She’s an ok singer, musician, good song writer, there are many much stronger but she had the money behind her to make her as successful as she has become.

I find it an odd thing to say let someone else has a turn. Thats not how it works. It’s up to the public whose music they buy. If fans are happy to buy it, let them.

As Taylor said, there is a different vocabulary for men and women, men strategic, women are calculated.

Who gets to the top of their game, with years of life ahead of them, plenty left to offer, can make more money and continue doing what they enjoy, and thinks ‘I know, I need to let someone else have a turn’. 🤪

Odiebay · 09/02/2026 18:19

Don't agree with the let someone else have a turn. Going to say that to Lewis Hamilton are you?

She's not perfect and I don't agree with everything she does at all. However travis' ex has also come for her so although I think the back and forth is petty I don't think it's one sided from Taylor.

Personally I loved TTPD and although showgirl is not my fav I'd say I listen to over half the songs. The funny thing is say if you like ed sheeran does that mean you have to like everyone of his albums? Of course not. Not everything is going to be for you and that's fine.

On another note maybe I am slightly biased because I have met and worked with her for nearly a week and I can tell you literally noone has a bad word to say about her who she works with and I honestly get why. She was incredibly kind and not diva at all. Her mum is also so sweet.

I think just take what is good for you and leave the rest. People still show up to see Chris brown
Which I think is wrong but if Taylor has done something that you can't morally support then don't listen to her music 🤷🏻‍♀️

Ninerainbows · 09/02/2026 17:44

This not you then?

Oh she's in control! The wedding sounds like it's going to be huge on another scale. Disney documentary? You bet!

I don't think her fans engaging in discussions on threads like these means you "can't say anything whatsoever". If someone disagrees with you, that's an opinion same as yours.

Oh I meant the no talent weird looks and whatever else you were banging on about

I'm not "banging on". These are quotes from the people agreeing with your stance, on the thread you started. You know, the "anything" you claim you can't say.

Jbum · 09/02/2026 18:29

Why is she making digs at her fiancé's ex? That is very mean girl. After all she got the guy and is marrying him, grow up and be mature and live your happy life why bitch about his ex. Just like stop going on about your exs in your songs so over it and again your in a relationship and getting married.

CandiedPrincess · 09/02/2026 18:35

I bloody love the new album. It took about a weekend to grow on me but it's never been off since. Totally different vibe to TTPD which I also loved but then most of her albums are different to the next. Can't please all of the people all of the time.

Quickchangeartist · 09/02/2026 18:35

I’m 57. I like her a lot. I am impressed by her work ethic and producing Eras which I’d have killed to see. I like tracks on all her albums. Not every single one, but then I don’t initially like all of the Beatles, Stones, Madonna, Beyoncé etc. Typically though after I’ve rested an album I find a new love on a later listen and tracks I loved initially go down.

With the global tonnage of fans she has, some will go locco. She cannot reasonably be held to account for that.

As to politics. She could say a lot. Would you? Knowing you could be shot by a MAGA nut job? There are plenty of other targets, with loftier political ambitions (Clooney) at 36 I’d prefer to stay alive and use my influence when it can actually count for something.

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 08/02/2026 21:55

You also don’t have to pay any attention to TS if she triggers you this much, let alone start threads on Mumsnet about her.

She wants to have a discussion!

But then we also have Adele re-hashing break up after break up. Her dig was at her son’s father.

She wants everyone to slag her off. There’s a difference.

whats that got to do with TS? Why the deflection?! This is what I mean you just can’t say anything. Always has to be deflection or accusations of jealousy or whatever. Literally zero point.

Just had a wee chat with myself as recommended.

Spielberg, Scorsese et al don’t release dozens of cuts of one film, King doesn’t release the same book with dozens of covers, Streep doesn’t have several versions of a film where she’ll play someone slightly differently.

I thought there was a great atmosphere when she played in my city a few summers ago, the fans were so excited and it was lovely to see but the online Swifties scare me so I’m not going to engage further in this thread.

She's not forcing anyone to anything. I wouldn't call myself a swiftie - I can admire her work and work ethic whilst also not being in an imaginary fan club because I'm a middle aged woman.

As for bowing out of the conversation because you're "scared" ....what of...people disagreeing with you?

HermioneWeasley · 09/02/2026 18:54

The comment about “let others have a turn” - she had massively amplified young female acts: Sabrina carpenter, Gracie Abram’s, Olivia what’s her face and paramooe all got huge boosts from her collaborations and touring with her.

Me too, that's why I have bowed out. You can't say anything against her whatsoever. No point in trying to discuss anything!

You're not trying to discuss anything. If you aren't happy to hear people who disagree with you...it's not a discussion. What you're looking for a pile on. You are allowed to say she's a terrible artist and a terrible human being and I'm allowed to say that she's a talented artist and seems like a decent human being. YOU are not being attacked.

Candlestickinthediningroom · 09/02/2026 19:03

Olivia Rodrigo
Fleetwood Mac
Beyonce
Lily Allen
Justin Timberlake
The Beatles
The Rolling Stones
Dolly Parton
....
....
I could probably go on forever ...... All of these bands and artists have written songs about ex's.
