Taylor Swift

Was anyone a fan but now is a bit....done?

I was, of her music, didn't really follow her much (her personal life)

But after her shitty album, the texts made public in the BL/JB controversy and now the Opalite video yet AGAIN making digs at her fiances ex, who is now getting bullied online...I just think I see her for who she is and I can't separate the music from the artist

I think I may be a retired 'swiftie'

She's nearing 40 for god's sake....it's all very mean girl

I’m new to Taylor Swift as my DD has only got into her this year, but I like TTPD and the new album. Maybe give Showgirl another listen, OP? She doesn’t always have to make exactly the same music.

There’s plenty that’s a bit cringe about Taylor, but to be honest she writes great poppy songs that are fantastic to sing along to, makes clever and funny or visually stunning videos, and seems to be a reasonably decent person. In these days of Epstein and P Diddy (and thinking about the weird lives of some of the pop stars we grew up with — Michael Jackson? Madonna? Prince, anyone?) — and the misogyny and hypocrisy right throughout the industry, I just cannot get worked up about Taylor Swift being a bit cringe and obsessed with high school. It’s just pop music! She is actually rather talented, more so than many/most over-revered male artists, and all power to her for being an artist that preteen girls like as much as adult women. Good for her.

"tearing down" 😂

You're clearly just here to give the OP shit so why not take your own advice and just not post about things that trigger you and leave her to it.

I can post what I like thanks. It’s a discussion forum.
When you start a thread with outlandish claims about a celebrity, don’t dish out what you can’t take back.

ChattyCatty25 · 09/02/2026 01:28

I’ve never been a fan (I hate her weak voice), but she couldn’t realistically keep up the unlucky in love ex-bashing persona forever. She’s aged out of it, however she’s tried to carry it on, while partially combining it with happily-ever-after schtick. She’s managed to alienate her fans while making everyone finally realise that she’s far too old for this.

Also, there is the simple fact that popularity is always temporary for pop stars. Taylor is now passed her peak, but she rode the wave for a long, long time.

Then there’s ageism: Taylor is 36, which is geriatric for an industry aimed at teens. Pop fans are young, and her original fans are moving on and long since grown up. She managed to keep gaining new fans by looking and acting young, but it’s getting ridiculous now. Plus like most famous women who dare to exist past their twenties, she’s got work done to preserve her looks, but she now looks a bit odd.

I'm sure she really needs you to stand up for her.

Yes you can post what you like, but don't be so disingenuous to claim that you're not just here to give the OP shit, own it! You saw a thread you didn't like and instead of just scrolling by like you often tell others they can if they don't like the topic, you decided to give the OP a kicking and be as belittling as possible. Just own it.

Love the new album, love the new video, think she's an incredibly talented, driven and smart woman. So what if her music talks about her life and her version of the truth....that's what songwriters, artists, etc do. Men get to write about whatever they want but she's got to play nice. Men get to earn shit tonnes of money, but she's yucky because she makes billions. If you don't like her don't buy her music, or engage with her videos. Don't accuse her being a mean girl then come online to slag her off ...pot calling kettle.

100% NAILED IT with every last word.

Thewonderfuleveryday · 09/02/2026 10:12

Of course she won't document her wedding. We'll get a few photos after the event.

There's a world of difference between a collosal world tour and a personal event.

TaffetaPhrases · 09/02/2026 10:12

Children stop fighting 🙄

Taytay jumped the shark IMO when she announced something like “your English teacher and gym teacher are getting married” - there was so much implied in that sentence.

EverythingIsComputer · 09/02/2026 10:19

I’d love her to just let someone else have a turn, stop releasing multiple versions of albums that clog up the charts and rinse your fans.

Everything feels so calculated with her. She’s an ok singer, musician, good song writer, there are many much stronger but she had the money behind her to make her as successful as she has become.

Ninerainbows · 09/02/2026 10:21

I like her a lot and went to the Eras tour but she peaked twice for me - Red and Folklore/Evermore. I hate Showgirl.

"Let someone else have a turn".... Do you say the same about all successful creatives? FFS Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg you have enough Oscars why are you still directing. And as for Steven King, he really should just shuffle away and burn his typewriter. Meryl Streep.better never act in another film...greedy bitch.

Someone who is a brilliant business women = "calculated". Have a word with yourself.

Just had a wee chat with myself as recommended.

Spielberg, Scorsese et al don’t release dozens of cuts of one film, King doesn’t release the same book with dozens of covers, Streep doesn’t have several versions of a film where she’ll play someone slightly differently.

I thought there was a great atmosphere when she played in my city a few summers ago, the fans were so excited and it was lovely to see but the online Swifties scare me so I’m not going to engage further in this thread.

JHound · 09/02/2026 17:07

Me too, that's why I have bowed out. You can't say anything against her whatsoever. No point in trying to discuss anything!

I think she now (for the last five or six years) averages about one very good per album, with none of them matching the exceptional quality of much of her early work, but you know what, I can't think of many popular musicians who've continued to consistently produce exceptional work over two decades, so I'm not going to hold it against her.

SummaLuvin · 09/02/2026 17:20

I've been a swiftie for ages, and Showgirl is pretty low down in my rankings of her albums, but I think this thread feels a bit much. If you feel like her music isn't for you anymore then just move on.

The new music video is fun and charming, and if some fans are taking it upon themselves to hate on her/Travis' exes then that's on them. Could she call them off? Yes. But that isn't always the right action as it can validate these rabid fans by acknowledging their bad behaviour.

And with regards to the Blake Lively situation, if my best friend has told me all about the man who sexually assaulted her at the work place then I don't my texts about him would be as mild as Taylor's were. They were mean, but who can blame her in that situation.

I don't think that's fair. One can agree that it's gross to continually release album variants all year round yet disagree with those saying that she's not very talented, too old to write breakup songs and "looks weird".

She won't do a wedding documentary. She's not a Love Island or Real Housewives reality TV star.

I don't think her texts were particularly mean, it just showed a level of scheming that I wouldn't expect in that situation. He didn't sexually assault her (we can agree to disagree on this point for now) but if he did then I would expect to tell my friend to go to the police or at the very least HR, not try and take over his movie! That's just me though.

Oh she's in control! The wedding sounds like it's going to be huge on another scale. Disney documentary? You bet!

I don't think her fans engaging in discussions on threads like these means you "can't say anything whatsoever". If someone disagrees with you, that's an opinion same as yours.
