Was anyone a fan but now is a bit....done?

I was, of her music, didn't really follow her much (her personal life)

But after her shitty album, the texts made public in the BL/JB controversy and now the Opalite video yet AGAIN making digs at her fiances ex, who is now getting bullied online...I just think I see her for who she is and I can't separate the music from the artist

I think I may be a retired 'swiftie'

She's nearing 40 for god's sake....it's all very mean girl

I think a lot of artists came out for the Democrats at the last election, or ant least encouraging people to go out and vote, and a fat lot of good it did. So I don’t know what you expect TS to say. I mean, any sane person would know what’s going on in the USA right now, why does it need spelling out by TS. I think you may have outgrown her. Reading about the minutiae of her private life should be left for teenagers.

I don't expect her to say anything about politics! What made you think that?

OP posts:
Flores93 · 08/02/2026 22:14

I've never been hugely invested either way. I liked some of her songs but never got the hype, always felt she was broadly fine. Even now I am mostly uninterested but do feel she's quite overexposed and I feel like there's something very cringey about all the navel gazing and leaving clues and easter eggs about herself in her songs. I think she has been the victim of misogyny in the past but that doesn't mean she can't also be quite annoying. The intensity of some of her fans is quite wearing too, though you get that with superfans of pretty much everything.

I have never been a fan. I do admire her for surviving in the awful celebrity industry, she is a kind employer too.

Where did the roast dinner post come from?

OP posts:
Nezukokamado · 08/02/2026 22:18

@Flores93 True. I just wish she would put something out about leaving people alone (where her fans sort of take it upon themselves to harass someone)

I unfortunately am a big fan of a lot of her music! I am just feeling a bit disappointed. And that's ok. She's not perfect. But when you have such an influence it can be dangerous and/or good

Probably a place of boredom for the umpteenth TS bashing thread.

She is, I have only seen her employees say good things about her and they look like they are having a blast

I wonder if she will still be big in say 20 years

when was the last one?! I'm not bashing. I'm a long-time fan who is feeling a bit off about some of her behaviour. Why id that not allowed to be discussed?

Want me to even it out?

She is super talented
She is beautiful
She is intellingent
She treats her employees well
She has longevity
erm...... i could go on

That doesn't change my initial post. I'm feeling a bit disappointed. ESPECIALLY as she has such a platform and so many young girl/women admirers who are listening to her

I love Taylor. Not entirely thrilled about my kids singing ‘his love was the key that opened my thighs’ but then again in the 90s we were singing along to the thong song, 2 become 1 and I’ll make love to you.

Might have a choc ice now.

I’ve never been a huge fan. She has a few bangers but the rest of her output is a bit meh (to me).

Her personal life doesn’t bother me. If she makes a song I like, I’ll listen to it. Otherwise I pay no attention.

Yeah to be fair I could’ve done without ‘Wood’ 🤣.

Alright mumsnet police, put the word a day calendar away. We get it you know the word triggered now it's just time to learn how to use it in context.

YANBU OP her silence on Trump and what's happening in America right now has been the biggest let down for me. She has a massive audience she could use for good but says nothing.

She's a Trump supporter though?
I think we've all had enough of celebrity opinions.

haha! They don't know what they are singing, bless them! I was trying to tell my daughter about the clean version of wood and she just didn't get it, like what's clean/dirty! I just let her enjoy it, even if she is singing about his hardwood tree that ain't hard to see while im making dinner.........

I've never loves an artist's music like i love hers. I may need to just separate the artist from the music but I don't know how

I think she is very stuck in a High School dynamic. That post about her engagement English teacher and your gym teacher getting married is a case in point as is this video essentially about school losers.

From what I've read about her, she was a bit of a loner at school so it probably isnt a great surprise psychologically that she is trying to re-write her youth now she has massive success and is a bit stuck in her past view of herself. Her huge fame and wealth will mean that she is and has been for years surrounded only by people on a day to day basis that blow smoke up your ass which probably isn't great for maturing and her parents I believe remain heavily involved in her career and management.

I've never been a Swiftie though and I confess to being envious of her great wealth and fame. The whole way that all of those people on a chat show just pitched up to be in her video is only something that the most famous people could achieve. Being stuck in a highschool dynamic isn't something that I would worry about if I were her. Its definitely wearing thin as she ages.

Eventually she'll probably end up like Madonna, trying to claw back huge fame and currency that has passed in really sad ways instead of just resting on her laurels and enjoying her former success and cash.

I can't work out who she relates to. Shes my age but I can't relate to the heartbreak and list of exes. Maybe if she sang about de-icing the car and dealing with mansplainers at work it might be better.

DD11 attempts to like her and while she likes the upbeat ones the tortured poets songs went straight over her head.

So she must have to constantly think about how to retain older fans and bring in new ones and I think that's pretty tricky.

I think this is it. I’ve been a fan since 2008, when I was a young teenager and I’d say debut-1989 were so relatable in a “coming of age, finding your feet” kind of way. Then rep and lover are both very romantic which hit me at that point in my life. I love the pandemic albums as ‘easy listening’ and I think we were all feeling a bit over-reflective during lockdown. Midnights has a few of my faves but is less relatable to me and fame/wealth is an established theme at this point. I adore TTPD and it feels incredibly cathartic, but I have completely different difficulties in my 30s than she does. She doesn’t have a song about the shame of having sobbed in your line manager’s office. TLOASG is fun and a lot of the tracks are earwormt, but again I am neither rich nor famous. I would actually say the first three tracks are my favourite track 1-3 run of any album, but the details of her lyricism are of a world that I am not.
