Was anyone a fan but now is a bit....done?

I was, of her music, didn't really follow her much (her personal life)

But after her shitty album, the texts made public in the BL/JB controversy and now the Opalite video yet AGAIN making digs at her fiances ex, who is now getting bullied online...I just think I see her for who she is and I can't separate the music from the artist

I think I may be a retired 'swiftie'

She's nearing 40 for god's sake....it's all very mean girl

Apologies, it was mentioned here, it must have been someone else on the thread.

Oh I see, no no I don't expect that from any celebrity. TBH when they do they get shut down and when they don't speak they get flamed!

Who wants to bet that there will be a 3 part documentary about her wedding?

She's very good at monetizing stuff and if she's in control of it (which she has the money to be), she can say exactly how much private or non-private stuff is in there.

Oh she's in control! The wedding sounds like it's going to be huge on another scale. Disney documentary? You bet!

She’s not a Trump supporter. Quite the opposite.

Oh ok, maybe I have it wrong, I remember reading something about it but it was years ago.

She does hang around with MAGA supporters - Travis' teammates and their wives (I think) but I don't think she's that way... as far as I know!

She’s anti-Trump, it’s documented in her documentary Miss Americana. The only out and out MAGA as far as I’m aware she associates with is Brittany Mahomes, Travis’ teammate’s wife.

No I'm not a super fan at all 😂.

BellesAndGraces · 08/02/2026 22:55

I don’t really understand the pile on. I like her albums, including Life of a Showgirl, obviously not every song but I’ve never liked every song on any album. I appreciate her as an artist and songwriter.

I can’t get worked up over screenshots of text messages published by the Daily Mail. People are free to read whatever messages they want to read into her music videos, it’s not her job to police the internet.

EmeraldRoulette · 08/02/2026 22:56

I'm a big fan

I have no idea about her personal life

I have no idea that anyone gets bullied due to something in a video

I have no idea who her fiance has dated in the past

I don't really pay attention to who she dated in the past - though as a big fan of the 1975, I had people actually coming up to me and telling me about that one! And strangely, they all said "how do you feel about this?" I feel like other people's private lives is not my business is how I feel.

Is this one of those mad opaque references that some teen Swifties make? The bullying thing?

I was relieved to have a nice poppy album - I did really like TTPD but I found folklore and evermore pretty heavy and I prefer the cheerful stuff. I also wasn't expecting an album. I really thought she'd retire after the Eras tour.

I do really want to know how the Opalite video went - like how much of the concept she already had when she went on the GN show and how organic it was to have them all in the video. Such fun, as Miranda's mother would say!

I would watch a 3 part documentary. I see no problem whatsoever with her monetising her wedding - isn’t that how the Beckhams and every celeb Tom, Dick and Harry paid for theirs?

Sofachick6 · 08/02/2026 23:02

Opalite was one of her first songs in a while that I could stand. It felt very fitting back in Nov-Dec but we’re in Feb now getting it shoved down our necks like a re-release. I hate the cash grab in her.

AgnesMcDoo · 08/02/2026 23:04

I wasn’t a fan until this new album and her two latest hits and videos

now I adore her

Who is shoving it down your neck?
Where do you see this stuff? I have to actually select it on my streaming service.

@AgnesMcDoo I know someone whose husband has suddenly got into her music. His wife has been a fan for ages. He's only now just started listening to it. He said it was the new album that caught his attention. I found that puzzling.

But anyway, it was great for me, because he was asking my opinion on which albums to listen to as a newbie and it was such fun.

He didn't like his wife's choice of folklore - folklore and evermore is how she got into the music... whereas evermore in particular in the beginning, I felt like I was just tolerating it (sorry I had to get that in there).

EscapedTurkey · 08/02/2026 23:21

I have always found her music boring and samey. That breathy tone. Lack of variety and notes in her songs. Just not my cup of tea.

BellesAndGraces · 08/02/2026 23:23

@EmeraldRoulette I also got into Taylor Swift via Evermore. A combination of anxiety and work meant I used to be up most of the night during lockdown. Evermore kept me company in the darkest hours of the night and made me feel less lonely.

PoliteSquid · 08/02/2026 23:25

I adore her. She was my DDs favourite and that was the extent of my knowledge…. Then we went to the Eras tour and I have loved her since then. TLOASG is my most favourite album in a long long time.

She’s an astute business woman and has produced sparkly pop music to appeal to the widest audience. And she is a marketing machine. It’s no deeper than that and I am often amused by Swifties trying desperately to find clues and read too much into the things.

EmeraldRoulette · 08/02/2026 23:32

@BellesAndGraces as someone who's been a fan from the beginning, I feel like there was a new intake around folklore and evermore... then again during the Eras tour film release - I guess a lot of people got dragged along and then realised it was actually good - and perhaps now with TLOASG?

I'm talking about adults by the way 😂 when the film came out, I literally had people saying to me "oh my God, I did not understand why you're a fan ... and now I do".

if anyone is new, definitely look up her acoustic sets on YouTube - all the old songs and they're absolutely gorgeous. Really nice to hear them in proper acoustic form.

Candlestickinthediningroom · 08/02/2026 23:44

Love the new album, love the new video, think she's an incredibly talented, driven and smart woman. So what if her music talks about her life and her version of the truth....that's what songwriters, artists, etc do. Men get to write about whatever they want but she's got to play nice. Men get to earn shit tonnes of money, but she's yucky because she makes billions. If you don't like her don't buy her music, or engage with her videos. Don't accuse her being a mean girl then come online to slag her off ...pot calling kettle.

WaneyEdge · 09/02/2026 00:24

I've seen quite a lot of discussion on whether Daisy from ‘Keeping Up Appearances’ features in the Opalite video.

She has some songs that I like and others I don’t. And far more that I’ve never heard of. She isn’t really my cup of tea musically but I’ve nothing against her.

hellywelly3 · 09/02/2026 00:36

I was never really interested in her until this new album. I went with my DD to watch the film/documentary about it and now I love it.

you poor thing @thetimehascomeandso you do NOT and I repeat do NOT have to click on threads that are not of interest to you, and don't let anyone make you feel otherwise

God. You’re very aggressive to people commenting

Mistyglade · 09/02/2026 00:42

I agree she’s past her sell by date and I doubt her records will be played much in 20 years.

(Beware the swifters on here!)

xPenelopePitstop · 09/02/2026 00:52

I wonder if male artists get threads made about them just to moan about them and their music videos. Or just the female ones?

DustlandFairytaleBeginning · 09/02/2026 00:53

I was never a swiftie- I like some of her songs but I couldn't tell you what album they came from or name them all. I am the same age as she is.

I have just watched her Opalite video and I love it, very catchy and joyful and sweet (to me). I don't understand why you are getting so worked up but I have never been into pop idolisation anyway.

Most songs write about love and emotions and being unhappy before finding love and now happy in love is one of the most basic premises in a love song. I don't see mean girl I just see age old love song story.

But the ones she wrote over 20 years ago are still being played.

TTPD, Folklore and Evermore are way too depressing for me. I like the upbeat pop stuff. TLOAS is a millennial masterpiece. It's like all the sounds of my childhood in one album.

She's created an industry around herself of monetising everything and her merch quality is shocking for what she charges and needs sorting out quickly.

She endorsed Kamala in the last election and Trump hates her. Britney Mahomes is MAGA and I don't know how she could hang out with someone with such opposing views but there we go.

As a woman who gives no fucks about what anyone thinks is her success, it is fun to see her just do her thing and still be front and centre every time.

OP if you're looking for something different I'm particularly enjoying Chappell Roan, Olivia Dean and Raye.

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 08/02/2026 22:07

Bullying? You’re tearing down a successful artist for what, apparently doing stuff you don’t like and coming out with shit like ‘making digs at his ex’. Has she done that? In your opinion. Your post drips in irony. That’s the thing with discussion boards, people might, God forbid, post things that go against your opinion.

"tearing down" 😂

You're clearly just here to give the OP shit so why not take your own advice and just not post about things that trigger you and leave her to it.
