To think without a key part of breakfast the price should be discounted

Just come to a local carvery chain to have breakfast. Its an unlimited breakfast -£11.48.

But they've got no bacon! Tbf they do tell you when you arrive, something to do with their supply chain. But bacon is a big part of breakfast! It's £11.45, that includes sausage, hash browns, mushrooms, tomatoes, fried eggs and cubes potatoes. Unlimited tea/coffee and toast. It's not put me off but would it put you off? Would you expect a discount?

No. They told you up front. If bacon was a deal breaker you could have gone somewhere else.

ComtesseDeSpair · 08/02/2026 09:56

No. You could have chosen to go elsewhere when they told you there was no bacon if you didn’t think breakfast was worth £11.48 without it.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 08/02/2026 09:56

No. If you needed bacon that badly you find somewhere that has it in stock.

Lightingfail · 08/02/2026 09:57

I wouldn't want to pay that much without the bacon, and would want to go somewhere else, but if there is a group of you it's often not that simple. I'd probably eat there to keep the peace but wouldn't go back again.

79Beastie · 08/02/2026 09:57

I wouldn't pay for that anyway. It looks horrible. What's all the brown juice? Looks very unappetising. I wouldn't eat it even with bacon

ScarlettSarah · 08/02/2026 09:58

No, because they told you upfront. Plenty of people don't eat bacon anyway.

Mischance · 08/02/2026 09:59

Heavens - that looks utterly revolting!

nomas · 08/02/2026 09:59

No, I don’t eat bacon, I wouldn’t care.

You do eat bacon but they told you no bacon so go elsewhere.

And do not leave a bad review, they told you upfront.

LadyKenya · 08/02/2026 09:59

I don't eat bacon, so I would not be bothered. I would not expect a discount, as there is not a limit on what else can be eaten.

gototogo · 08/02/2026 10:00

As I prefer sausages it wouldn’t bother me but I wouldn’t pay for breakfast like that out anyway, I like a nicer breakfast myself, ideally fish, if I’ve bothered to go out, a fry up is for hotel stays or at home.

HangryBrickShark · 08/02/2026 10:01

Ok. Just interested in people's viewpoint. It was a lovely breakfast and very filling, left half a sausage. Just trying to kill a bit of time so thought it would be nice to have breakfast but wondered what others thought.

I wouldn't expect a discount - you could just add an extra sausage to make up for the missing bacon!

Rainbowdottie · 08/02/2026 10:01

No I wouldn’t expect a discount because you were told at the door before deciding to go ahead. You were free to go elsewhere and not take up their breakfast

99pwithaflake · 08/02/2026 10:04

I wouldn't expect a discount for the lack of bacon as you could have gone elsewhere.

I'd not be impressed with that plate though, it looks anaemic - especially the hash browns.

BlueandWhitePorcelain · 08/02/2026 10:04

No, because the major costs in restaurants are rent, rates and staff costs. Utility costs have gone up considerably the last few years. The business needs to cover those to make a profit and keep going.

If you have your cooked breakfast minus bacon, you have still taken up floor space, light, heat, and staff time, which you need to pay for. Food is a lesser cost usually.

5128gap · 08/02/2026 10:04

You are paying to eat as much as you like of the multiple items they have available for the stated price, and you take it or leave it.

HolidayPlanningAgain · 08/02/2026 10:05

I don’t like bacon on a breakfast when I’m out as they don’t cook it to my liking.
that breakfast looks pretty awful and would be annoyed at that price for what looks like poor quality food

Stangirsdottir · 08/02/2026 10:08

Breakfast soup, yum.

OP wasn’t bothered about no bacon. As for no bad reviews, people may mention that in a review, why wouldn’t they? Yes they were told on the door but people have still gone there expecting a full breakfast and if they did go elsewhere it’s still an inconvenience.

OP it also wouldn’t have put me off staying and I wouldn’t expect a discount because they did let people know on arrival so it’s up to customers to decide if they stay or not.

Breakfast soup, yum.

Ha yes, it looks like a weird stew.

Purplefoalfoot · 08/02/2026 10:11

Surely you have enough cruelty on that plate. How much suffering do you expect to be able to pay for and then eat for £11.48?

Simonjt · 08/02/2026 10:14

If you think the food in that photo was lovely then the lack of bacon is the least of your problems. How could undercooked eggs and hashbrowns ever be lovely?

BloomsburyBelgravia · 08/02/2026 10:15

I wouldn't expect a discount as I don't think you're paying an unreasonable amount when you take all their overheads into account. Staff, bills, food, taxes, etc

IzzyStardust · 08/02/2026 10:16

No. Because you can eat more of the other items.

I'd not eat any of that anyway

Are you aware of the health risks with bacon and sausage- processed meats and nitrites?

DoAWheelie · 08/02/2026 10:16

No discount because it's all you can eat.

If it was a set breakfast with a fixed number of items and something was missing I would expect a discount as I am getting less than I paid for.

But when it's all you can eat you can take more of other items to fill in the gap and ensure you just as full/satiated as if they did have bacon. You have slightly less choice but it's not unusual for carveries to have a fluctuating level of choice depending on the time and day and there is often a wait as an item runs out and needs replenishing.
