To think without a key part of breakfast the price should be discounted

Just come to a local carvery chain to have breakfast. Its an unlimited breakfast -£11.48.

But they've got no bacon! Tbf they do tell you when you arrive, something to do with their supply chain. But bacon is a big part of breakfast! It's £11.45, that includes sausage, hash browns, mushrooms, tomatoes, fried eggs and cubes potatoes. Unlimited tea/coffee and toast. It's not put me off but would it put you off? Would you expect a discount?

As a vegetarian I often get fleeced into paying the same/similar price for a meatless meal (as in no replacement) as the original meat version, particularly for breakfasts.

Welcome to my world!

Ok. Just interested in people's viewpoint. It was a lovely breakfast and very filling, left half a sausage. Just trying to kill a bit of time so thought it would be nice to have breakfast but wondered what others thought.

Glad you enjoyed it @HangryBrickShark, that's all that matters.

I wouldn't pay for that anyway. It looks horrible. What's all the brown juice? Looks very unappetising. I wouldn't eat it even with bacon

The ‘brown juice’ is brown sauce/HP sauce

HangryBrickShark · 08/02/2026 12:10

I very rarely eat bacon or sausage, it was just a convenient way to kill a bit of time having breakfast. I'm fully aware of the links of processed meats, bacon, salami etc being a red flag for BC.

I've actually lost nearly 4 stone through SW and WLI so its certainly not something I eat regularly for sure and when I do I tend to have bacon medallions.

The tinned tomatoes were very watery, there was a spoon with holes in to let the watery tomato juice out but it wasn't very effective. The eggs were just right. The 'gravy' was brown sauce which they give you with a bowl and spoon, not a bottle of sauce! The mushrooms were cooked whole to give the appearance of having more on your plate I expect. It was okay as an occasional meal but not something I'd eat for another few months.

Interesting to hear people's opinions.

No one puts sauce on for you- it's either on the table or the self-service counter.

What are bacon medallions and how are they any 'better' than a rasher?

As I prefer sausages it wouldn’t bother me but I wouldn’t pay for breakfast like that out anyway, I like a nicer breakfast myself, ideally fish, if I’ve bothered to go out, a fry up is for hotel stays or at home.

That wasn’t the question was it?

Not unusual to leave out bacon.
Processed meats are unhealthy. Some breakfasts places are trying to sway more towards healthy foods like beans, oats, eggs, fruits, nuts and mushrooms.

This is the Toby Carvery - they're not about health.

DrinkFeckArseBrick · 08/02/2026 12:13

No I wouldn't expect a discount as is a part of the breakfast but not the main thing and can easily be substituted with something else

Rileysp · 08/02/2026 12:13

They told you beforehand.

I don’t think missing any one item makes a difference to the price in an all you can eat buffet.

Processed meats are only unhealthy if they are a standard and regular part of your diet. If they are consumed infrequently and as a "treat" it's fine. Same applies to sugar, donuts, chips, alcohol and fizzy drinks etc etc. As for eateries not serving bacon, this really isn't a thing. Not unless you specifically go somewhere like a wholefood or hipster type place. Any chain restaurant or regular cafe that advertises a full English breakfast would lose customers at a rate of knots if they didn't serve bacon.

That would be brown sauce.

HazelMember · 08/02/2026 12:35

I wouldn't even pay 50p for a breakfast that looks like that.

Heyhelga · 08/02/2026 12:36

They usually just advise upfront and offer you an extra portion of one of the other items which is fine with me. No big fuss needed.

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 08/02/2026 12:37

No, but bacon isn’t a deal breaker for me. Sometimes I choose not to have it. It’s all you can eat so you can munch down as my as you like of the other things and they told you up front so you had the option to go elsewhere.

Brown juice!😂 Have you never seen hp sauce?

Maddy70 · 08/02/2026 12:47

Did they give you extra sausage ? I would have asked for that

Nevermind17 · 08/02/2026 12:47

This is a hill I’m prepared to die on! I’m coeliac and it’s pretty routine that I can’t eat their sausages, black pudding, hash browns or toast. I’m fine with that if they given me an extra egg/bacon, and sometimes some gf toast.

But what normally happens is they just remove the offending components and I end up paying full price for half a breakfast. Nothing winds me up as much! If you’re going to give me half a breakfast, charge me half as much and I’ll order two!

OswaldCobblepot · 08/02/2026 12:52

Egglio · 08/02/2026 10:49

I would not expect a discount for no bacon.

But that is hands down the worst breakfast I have ever seen. Why does it have gravy?? WHY IS EVERYTHING ON TOP OF EACH OTHER!!

You would have to pay me to eat this.

Agree. I hate when food is all piled on top of each other like that. I wouldn't eat that. None of it looks nice.

AlmostAJillSandwich · 08/02/2026 12:54

This is an exact repost, from a few weeks ago, if not from here then reddit, right down to the wording, so whats the point?

Windday · 08/02/2026 12:55

I certainly wouldn't pay that for a breakfast that looked like that, bacon or no bacon.

IzzyStardust · 08/02/2026 12:12

I imagine less fat than a rasher - although ( and very personal choice) I's go for a couple of decent rashers of bacon and just one egg , quality over quantity. Especially if I'd been on weight loss injections as I am not sure eating such a quantity is helpful - I'd be hoping to have retrained my habits ie get out of the all you can eat/pile it high mentality.

Wolfpa · 08/02/2026 13:06

It is also missing the beans and black pudding

igelkott2026 · 08/02/2026 13:25

I think you can probably manage to have breakfast without bacon. I could easily fill up on yogurt, fruit etc.

But I did get annoyed once at a B&B which offered a full English but if you left early to get a flight (it was near Gatwick) you had to serve yourself a continental breakfast out of the fridge and they didn't knock anything off the price. Despite being near Gatwick and despite, presumably, having lots of people who stay and leave before the owners have even got out of bed.

TheDenimPoet · 08/02/2026 13:31

They told you, you chose to stay knowing there was no bacon. It's all you can eat, you're being grabby here.
