Is this too big a portion?

Context that my dad said he couldn’t believe I was eating “all that”
don’t judge the oven food, it’s Thursday and I’m tired!

I would have 4 fish fingers and a couple less of the potato things, same veg but each to their own if you’re hungry and a healthy weight.

Wonderwall23 · 05/02/2026 19:29

I am slim (borderline underweight) and would eat that minus 1 fish finger.

This isn't a criticism but as an aside, your plate itself is quite big. If you are trying to eat less (not saying you should!) I think smaller plates can help with this.

FurForksSake · 05/02/2026 19:29

I think we’ve lost sight of what a normal portion of fish gingers is 🤣 (joke, eat as many as you like, I’ll wait to be told I’m a competitive underwater and for someone to refer to this as upf crap…)

MrsBucketHat · 05/02/2026 19:30

Totally reasonable portion size. Hope you enjoyed it!

ThisMustBeMyDream · 05/02/2026 19:30

Here's some examples of my portion sizes. Watch the competitive under eaters go! As I said, I'm a healthy bmi! I need volume when I eat!

MessyNDepressy · 05/02/2026 19:30

I would eat that no problem. I’d possibly still be hungry after depending on what I’d eaten that day. I’m a healthy weight, BMI of 21.

fishfingergate · 05/02/2026 19:30

It’s not a heated argument, we send each other pics of our meals
here are 2 of mine, and 1 of his. Feel free to play guess which his is….

I'd eat that, I'm a healthy weight. Perfectly normal amount.

Don't listen to MN competitive undereaters, some people on here have serious food issues.

But how is the OP going to know who is a competitive under eater and who just couldn't eat that much?

HotdogMacaroniCheese · 05/02/2026 19:30

I’d eat half that amount at the most.

Simonjt · 05/02/2026 19:30

For a healthy adult thats not sufficient as a main meal, unless both breakfast and lunch contained a variety of fruit/veg, enough protein and carbs. Its probably enough if you’re six, or aiming to weigh the same as a six year old.

Fully agree. Looks good Op😋

northernballer · 05/02/2026 19:31

I'd still be hungry tbh, as it's not proper food and not enough carbs for me (not judging, I dish up the same on days I'm in the office).

I am very active and have a healthy BMI if that's relevant.

Megifer · 05/02/2026 19:31

Not enough for me 🤣

RagzRebooted · 05/02/2026 19:31

Deadringer · 05/02/2026 19:28

Surprised that pp have said they would only eat 2 fish fingers, that seems very little to me for an adult, I would give a toddler 2 or maybe 3.

According to Birds Eye, a serving is 4 fish fingers at around 250 calories. I'd say that's reasonable.

Yes I like nothing to touch! I mostly use them for salads as if I have a salad I have a full bag of well, salad
I can’t cope with ketchup or mayo touching my chips/fish fingers before I eat them

My 11yo DD would eat that portion easily. She’s tall and slim.

Tulipvase · 05/02/2026 19:32

Fizbosshoes · 05/02/2026 19:21

Its more than i would eat, im confident my skinny 16 year old DS would eat it.
Awaits lots of replies saying thats enough for their entire family of 4 for a week

My 17 year old has a five fishfinger sandwich for lunch! But he lives in the gym.

Solost92 · 05/02/2026 19:32

It's about comparable to one piece of fish and a handful of chips. Which no one would call over indulgence.

That would be a perfectly acceptable meal for me. With another 10 minutes in the oven tbh.

ThisDandyWriter · 05/02/2026 19:32

Honestly, I just wouldn’t eat that at all. It looks really unappealing to me. I would likely have a fish finger sandwich (3 fingers) and fruit.

99pwithaflake · 05/02/2026 19:32

HotdogMacaroniCheese · 05/02/2026 19:30

😂

mildlysweaty · 05/02/2026 19:33

Your dad (and everyone else) shouldn’t be commenting on what you eat. Your body your choice!

I had fruit and fibre cereal, flaxseed, freeze dried strawberries and banana for breakfast
lunch was a buffet so cheese salad sandwich, cake, handful of tortilla chips, grapes and a mini Aldi dark chocolate

NoSoapJustUseShowerGel · 05/02/2026 19:34

It’s a lot. I’d have the same amount of veg, maybe 3 fish fingers and half the potatoes. I’m a size 16, not your classic mn competitive undereater.

Go on, I'll play... is the measly pasta portion your dad's? 😮

Addictedtohotbaths · 05/02/2026 19:34

I’m a healthy weight, I’d eat that for a yellow dinner night easily
