McDonald’s Adult Happy Meals

To not understand the point in the silly cartoon Friends toys? I thought McDonald’s was trying to cut down on plastic waste? Surely make the kids happy meals better with decent toys rather than the adult ones!

Every so often. A nice little bit of joy.

Off yet on topic. Remember how mc Donald’s used to look. So fun and cheerful and now they all look like moody teens. The buildings 🤣 no more soft play inside. No burger stools.

Awww, those were the days. Grin

And childrens parties there too. My DC had about 3 or 4 each. I remember them getting a big pack of Crayola Crayons as a gift from Maccies (with a crayon sharpener in it!)

And remember the little ashtrays (in the days you could smoke in there!!!)

And the big (slightly scary) tree!

And yes, the burger chairs! Smile

Ah yes , I remember going to mcdonalds for a cheeseburger and a cigarette with my mates when I was a teenager. It feels strange that you could do that.

I’d pay extra for a plastic straw instead of the rubbish paper ones.

oh god me too, I was thinking that earlier.

HeadyLamarr · 05/02/2026 17:23

@SabreIsMyFave - my 5th birthday party was at a McDonald's! Fifty odd years ago. Murals of Mayor M cheese, the Hamburglar, life-size model of Ronald McDonald and everything.

Tableforjoan · 05/02/2026 17:25

I think most birthday parties I attended as a child were at mc Donald’s. With the sheet cake too!

We have the glass ashtrays though.

DH and I were discussing it. Timing is interesting, they’ve waited till January is out of the way and most have quit their resolutions for starters! We were also questioning who they’re marketing this at, whether it’s Gen Z or millennials. As a millennial, I have no interest in plastic toys whatsoever nor Friends for that matter. I never really got the hype, its background TV at best.

GenZ for the 90s revival

Im over 60 and I will use McDonald's and will eat a happy meal, its enough for a lunch and I can join the grandkids

Before the GKids, I could join the kids. Back in those days the toys were always collectables , but also going to McD's was a treat - hence the collectables - pester power

The grandkids haven't seemed to be bothered with the toys for goodness how long so I guess they arent clamouring to be taken again, and at the same time going to Mc D's is no longer a "treat"

There used to be another hamburger place that I can no longer remember the name of, they did a jacket spud with sour cream which I loved whilst the kids had their happy meals

Wimpy?

MrMainwaring · 05/02/2026 18:57

Mcdonald's does Happy Meals for adults? Good grief! 😂

springawakeningss · 05/02/2026 19:16

MyThreeWords · 05/02/2026 15:13

Uck. The phrase Adult Happy Meals just makes me think of adult nappies. I think this must be because they seem to be aimed at giving adults a sickly kind of thrill by infantilising them.

(I mean, obvs most adults using nappies aren't doing it for the thrill, but the guilty-junk-food context of a MacDonalds meal pulls the idea of depraved pleasures to the front of my mind.)

Yeah i think there is something wrong with you

I always thought they should do a Grumpy Meal, for parents, @MrMainwaring - with a miniature of gin in it, or maybe a couple of Valium. There were times, when the boys were younger, that I could have done with that!

Quietgirl9 · 06/02/2026 09:45

I can just see the headlines, " Profit driven business has money making idea", what a shocker

I agree with you 100%.

These will all just be in landfill or floating in the sea within 10 years.
The worlds biggest consumer organisations need to be setting an example so that idiot adults that need a plastic toy to eat a burger start rethinking their pathetic self centered outlook on what they 'want'.

Needmorelego · 06/02/2026 10:11

They will only be in "landfill or floating in the sea" if people put them there.
I can't speak for others but I don't put plastic products in landfill or the sea.
People always say that about plastic products but never expensive watches, jewellery, wholesome wooden toys etc.
Where do they go when people don't want them anymore?

Yeah but you don’t usually buy expensive watches on a whim and in large quantities. You’d likely keep it and use it for years, or perhaps resell. Wooden toys would degrade over time.

Reading some of the Christmas threads it seems some people do spend £100s on random watches/jewellery as "thoughtful" gifts 😂
By the way...the resale market for toys made of plastic is huge. The fact I have almost 50 year old Lego that is still usable and compatible with new Lego is brilliant.
Plastic doesn't always mean bad because it actually does last a long time.

Yes, I remember when you could go for a root beer and a puff on a JPS ciggie back in the mid 1980s. 😆

.

SabreIsMyFave · 06/02/2026 10:29

youalright · 05/02/2026 16:07

Wtf 😳 nobody else is thinking this your own twisted mind has thought that up all by yourself. Adults like these for the nostalgia nothing else.

That is weird that this posters mind went there, to adult nappies, when someone mentions adult happy meals. WTF? 😂

Loveing · 06/02/2026 10:30

Im dont like mc Donald's but I am a burger king fan.
And will order a happy meal for myself.

ticktickticktickBOOM · 06/02/2026 10:37

Well I have a 40 litre box full of plastic shit like like from when my child was growing up and getting given crap at birthday parties, as presents, picking up tat at boot fairs etc. I have no desire to keep it in my house till I die so it is all going to charity tomorrow - who will no doubt throw most of it in the bin - hence landfill.
If I do keep it in my house till I die (which is what the posters here who want plastic friends dolls say they are going to do) - someone else will put it in the bin when I am dead and gone. Either way it's going there at some point.

We still have lego washing up on the south coast from a container that fell off a ship 30 years ago. Plastic production and consumption produces waste - it doesn't matter how you dress it up.

So yes - whether you intend it or not - this plastic crap ends up in landfill and sea. So just don't buy it.

AzureRose · 06/02/2026 10:38

You can just buy a 9 nugget or big mac meal with no toy for cheaper. So people who pay for the toy likely want to keep it.

Needmorelego · 06/02/2026 10:39

@ticktickticktickBOOM a lot of that Lego that is washed up is still usable and quite sought after.
Why are you going to donate to a charity shop that won't want them? Why not recycle them?

GreenIsTheColourOfMyHoliday · 06/02/2026 10:40

Lots of "older" toys are pretty valuable now

I don't think "stuff that accidentally fell off a ship" counts quite the same either

You wouldnt know what the charity shop is going to end up doing with it. Do you know how difficult it is to get rid of tat, no one wants it. Ive got a car full of stuff waiting for the charity to say 'yes we're taking donations again', otherwise it just goes down the dump.

You cant really pick and choose a charity shop with any guarantee of what you think they're going to with it.

Morepositivemum · 06/02/2026 10:44

I never had a problem with the McDonalds meal toys, we’ve a collection from over the years, if people want to cut down on plastic I don’t think McDonalds toys are the big issue in the world!!!
