McDonald’s Adult Happy Meals

To not understand the point in the silly cartoon Friends toys? I thought McDonald’s was trying to cut down on plastic waste? Surely make the kids happy meals better with decent toys rather than the adult ones!

It's not that deep. It's a bit of fun. You're under no obligation to engage with the offer.

springawakeningss · 05/02/2026 13:43

I'm totally getting one this weekend! 😂

Easy. They were never trying to reduce waste, they were trying to make out they were reducing waste because it was good for profits.

I dong think people eating at Mcdonalds are that concerned about the environment!!!

And that's ok.

I eat at McDonalds, probably at least once a week.

I have an electric car and solar panels. I have cut almost all single use plastics out of my life (reusable sanitaryware, shampoo and conditioner bars, no shower gel, bath bubble bars, refillable deodorant). I shop regularly at my no waste shop, and regularly do no-clothes years where I don’t buy new clothes. If I do buy new clothes it’s mostly on Vinted.

So at least some people eating at McDonald’s are concerned about the environment.

OMG! I had no idea this was a thing. That is tomorrow's lunch sorted!

Tableforjoan · 05/02/2026 14:09

I won’t be buying the friends ones but I did the Minecraft and grinch ones haha.

was pretty gutted we did not get the squid games one unhappy meals that other countries do.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 05/02/2026 14:17

DS and I had MacD last night just to get the figures. We got a Chandler and a Joey. I don't want to eat that much MacD to get the whole set though.

whyaretheylikethis · 05/02/2026 14:21

Love McDonalds every now and again, and love friends.

Off to treat me and the kids tomorrow night to one 😁

BauhausOfEliott · 05/02/2026 14:29

Struggling to see why buying a bit of TV show merch alongside a Happy Meal is any different from buying a bit of TV show merch on its own from a shop.

You have to request and pay for the 'toy'. It's not just a freebie that people get given whether they want it or not and just throw in the bin. It's an item that people purchase because they want it. Otherwise they could just buy the food on its own.

The appeal of a Friends figurine is lost on me - the appeal of the show itself is lost on me, to be fair - but on the rare occasions I go into a McDonald's, I'm sure if they were doing Happy Meal merch related to a series or film that I really loved, I might buy it.

I already have a joey and Ross on my desk! Paid for DSD and her BF to have McDonald’s if I got the toys!

I have no car. Never travelled for more than 2 hours on a plane. No summer holiday abroad this year or last year. I buy second hand clothes. Have a small home and try to save on the water ... can I go just this one time to McD? Or?

Edited

Wise words, @ShetlandishMum - I agree. I would much rather that people were doing something, to help protect the planet/the environment than that they felt that, because they couldn’t be perfect, they shouldn’t bother trying at all.

Also, I do think that, once we start with a few measures to make our lives more green, those changes bed in and become habits, and then you can add more new habits - if that makes sense. I think I’m saying it is easier to introduce new habits gradually than to try to become perfect overnight,

It's a part of the absolute plastic-obsessed consumer madness that will eventually be the downfall of humankind and half the animals on the planet. A tiny part, but a part nonetheless.

RandomUsernameHere · 05/02/2026 14:54

Just had to look this up, had no idea they did this!

Epidote · 05/02/2026 14:56

I have two pairs and love them.

DD and her pals were swapping them for their favourites within their gang of mates.

I suspect the same will happen with the Friends figures.

yorkshiretoffee · 05/02/2026 15:03

Wait what? There's Friends toys?
Friday night might be Happy Meal night in my house!

Booksandwine80 · 05/02/2026 15:05

I want Phoebe. That is all.

Moonlightfrog · 05/02/2026 15:06

I think it’s supposed to be fun? 🤔

I love the idea of it, a shame I am on a diet and the grilled chicken wrap isn’t a part of the adult happy meal 😭.

I remember when happy meal toys used to be really good. I still have the beanie babies from the late 90’s and I remember them doing mini/travel games. They kind of went down hill and became plastic tat before they started doing books and cardboard rubbish. The friends mini figures are pretty cool and I enjoyed the grinch socks at Christmas.

ChurchWindows · 05/02/2026 15:06

More crap for landfill.

ThePoshUns · 05/02/2026 15:10

I thought it was a joke when I heard about. Now as a huge friends fan I’m going to need to get them all!

MyThreeWords · 05/02/2026 15:13

Uck. The phrase Adult Happy Meals just makes me think of adult nappies. I think this must be because they seem to be aimed at giving adults a sickly kind of thrill by infantilising them.

(I mean, obvs most adults using nappies aren't doing it for the thrill, but the guilty-junk-food context of a MacDonalds meal pulls the idea of depraved pleasures to the front of my mind.)

epstain · 05/02/2026 15:13

I can’t state strongly enough how intolerably bored I am
of ‘the environment’.

Think its getting quite bored of us, too, epstain.
