Keir starmer is dead in the water

Bertiebiscuit · 04/02/2026 22:21

The UK cannot have a prime minister who gave a plum job to a man when all the time he knew that Mandelson was still close friends with an ex-con who was convicted for trafficking children for sexual abuse. Starmer is destroying the reputation of the UK, he is an embarrassment and shoukd resign, if not the Labour party should demand his resignation.

I amazed that there are people who seem to think is all ok. We have a Labour Business Minister leaking details of a European bailout so his friends can make serious money which is one of the biggest political scandals ever, and that isn't even the worse bit of the story by far.

Abouttoblow · 04/02/2026 23:39

Bertiebiscuit · 04/02/2026 23:23

So M P s being best mates with jimmy Saville or gary glitter would have be ok with you?

You think that MPs being best mates with paedophiles and abusers is something out of the ordinary?
Really?

DoIdriveaVauxhallZafira · 04/02/2026 23:39

ParmaViolletts · 04/02/2026 23:32

@Venicelagoon and he ignores women's issues and doesn't prioritise them. I believe this is why he never took issues around mandelson seriously because he doesnt think they are.
See Rosie dufflied/see what defines a woman /see Asian grooming gangs scandal and so on

You really can't compare those who turn a blind eye to paedophile rings with those who believe TWAW.

the80sweregreat · 04/02/2026 23:40

The arsonist story does not go away on X .. I know X is a cesspit, but given what we now know about Eipstein and those involved with him , nothing surprises me anymore.

peanutbuttertoasty · 04/02/2026 23:41

Venicelagoon · 04/02/2026 23:36

Oh yes Parmaviolletts

Very good point.

Forgot about the fact he didnt want review of the grooming gangs.....

There have certainly been a number of paedophile rings in his orbit… Rotherham, Saville, Epstein, PIE. Always somehow manages to look the other way and then be dumbfounded by their existence. Uncanny blind spot.

Of course, it’s Starmer and co

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 04/02/2026 23:43

There’s nothing to show that Johnson or Sunak were corrupt. Nothing.

Johnson lied to parliament. So he had to go. But he gave nobody money. And he didn’t appoint an Epstein fluffer.

Sunak did nothing wrong.

All the “oh they lined their pockets by giving deals to their mates” is invention. It’s Labour garbage.

Starmer’s grabby freebies, and his utterly shit judgement, and his and this government’s rank hypocrisy are all a matter of record.

He’s over. The lie of Labour ethical superiority is over. Labour’s over.

the80sweregreat · 04/02/2026 23:45

I do wish for an election because I don’t think the public can put up with more of this leader merry go round we had before. It’s demoralizing and this government really isn’t cutting the mustard. Too many u turns and problems and bad decisions.

Grammarnut · 04/02/2026 23:47

Guilt by association is an unlovely thing. Though it is a truism you can judge a man (or woman) by the company they keep in some ways this is not helpful. For example, many Gender Critical women have been tarred with the right wing brush because they are willing to appear on GBNews or will talk to right-wing groups in the US, despite them being left-wing feminists, if you see my drift re Mandelson?

Driftingawaynow · 04/02/2026 23:47

Saltycaramelkiss · 04/02/2026 22:39

Wes Streeting said they don't discriminate against anyone based on mere association. I think this is sensible. Sadly this time they got it wrong but not a reason to resign imo

He would say that. He was close to Mandelson

It isn't an invention - it's not hard to find out (or did you only ever read the headlines?)

The difference is there aren't emails in the public domain.

Livelovebehappy · 04/02/2026 23:48

I’m no fan of Starmer. Or Labour. But I can’t imagine who in the party is anywhere near competent enough to be PM if he goes. Watched him in parliament today and Kemi wiped the floor with him, and sickening watching Rayner put the knife in. She’s absolutely vile, and it’s so obvious that she’s getting her ducks in a row to take over. The whole thing is such a mess.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 04/02/2026 23:48

DoIdriveaVauxhallZafira · 04/02/2026 23:25

Some very good points here, but if you think the likes of Farage or Kemi are better than Raynor you're in for a nasty shock.

Well, I hate to be that guy, but they really as bad as each as other. I have absolutely no faith in any party or any individual politician to clear up either the incompetence or the corruption that has infected successive governments. I despair at the lack of ability and integrity among our ruling classes. It’s a total shitshow and I can’t see things improving for a very long time.

LancashireButterPie · 04/02/2026 23:49

Meadowfinch · 04/02/2026 22:48

Rumours are already circulating tonight about KS resignation. Time will tell how long he lasts but I don't think he'll survive past the May elections.

Just not sure who will replace him. Burnham isn't an MP, so Jess Philips? Certainly not RR.

I'm so angry about Andy Burnham. I hope someone stands aside to give him a chance.
He is very anti sleaze and I believe he is a truly on the side of ordinary people.

Certainly not with Streeting, Badenoch and Farage biting at the bit

Dragonflytamer · 04/02/2026 23:50

Obviously the right wing Guardian is going to be saying that!

FrozenFebruary · 04/02/2026 23:51

the80sweregreat · 04/02/2026 23:35

I wish they wouid just call an election. I can see the L P going the way of the previous government, one new leader after another and each one being brought down. If Raynor is serious , the reason she left previously will follow her around like a bad smell.
The may council elections will be a bloodbath.
They may as well cut their losses now.

Edited

But what good would an election actually do?

I can't think of a single politician, let alone a party, I want in power. It's scary how awful they all are.

though this is universal at the moment, not just here.

I agree wholeheartedly

DoIdriveaVauxhallZafira · 04/02/2026 23:53

All those salivating at the prospect of Starmer being forced out should be careful what they wish for.

If Starmer goes, Reform is a shoe in and believe me you'll all regret that.

I wonder whether they will want him to limp on long enough to carry the can for the local elections, which will be a bloodbath anyway.

I feel very badly for Keir Starmer. I still think he is a fundamentally decent, albeit flawed, man who has done the best he could with a poisoned chalice. I worry about who might come next - there isn’t anyone credible waiting in the wings that I can see - and we need someone diplomatic and measured who can wrangle Trump. But the modern public is socialised to treat politics like an episode of Love Island, or the Premier League. They want lots of drama and regular shocking defenestrations.

I think this first paragraph nails it!

Get all the shit out of the way and then someone else can swoop in... Although none of the available options are very inspiring!

Yes, it’s invention. There’s no evidence for it at all.

Despise Johnson and Sunak all you like. But come up with some good evidence if you’re going to accuse them of corruption.
