Keir starmer is dead in the water

1000 replies

Bertiebiscuit · 04/02/2026 22:21

The UK cannot have a prime minister who gave a plum job to a man when all the time he knew that Mandelson was still close friends with an ex-con who was convicted for trafficking children for sexual abuse. Starmer is destroying the reputation of the UK, he is an embarrassment and shoukd resign, if not the Labour party should demand his resignation.

It should have been Starmer. He was responsible for the decision.

Yep. I’m not sure it’ll save him anyway.

CaveMum · 08/02/2026 14:42

I imagine they’ll let him cling on till May, then as soon as the local elections are done he’s a gonner. No one else is going to want to be the one at the dispatch box when those results come in.

OonaStubbs · 08/02/2026 12:15

I don't understand why Starmer hasn't resigned yet? Surely he must realise that the game is up? How much worse does it need to get before he realises it is inevitable?

Because it isn’t up, except in your imagination.

Well that’s not true, she’s closer to what’s going on than the it’s all fine for him posters.

I see in the photos Morgan McSweeney has a Nordace backpack. As do I. #SixDegreesOfSeparation

Yeah, he’s leading the country in a commanding fashion, adored by so many voters, a political Svengali, a much-loved figure to all his backbenchers. Who in their right mind would want shot of this Titan? 🙄

Some of the typical British stuff they have destroyed in just a few months: SMEs, en masse with their NI, pubs/care homes etc thrown into that, granny grandpa style landlording which never was as harmful as they made out - now putting generation RENT into even more of a precarious situation, universities - big problem (foreign student levy, putting people off going, lying about the Plan 2 student loans), massive gaslighting with fiscal drag and taxation on all, private schools, Latin/languages/value of humanities, selling out to big tech and selling our freedoms. It is all so desperately un British. Might as well put us all up for sale to China right now.

Think I would prefer to be the 51st state..

OonaStubbs · 08/02/2026 15:05

If there was a vote for us to become the 51st state of America, I would vote yes in a heartbeat. It needn't be the whole UK, just England, Scotland could remain if they want, as could Wales and Northern Ireland.

BunfightBetty · 08/02/2026 15:19

BIossomtoes · 08/02/2026 12:13

No small businesses elsewhere in the world? Latin is British?! Please, even the English language isn’t Latin based.

Eh?

Not sure why you're arguing this. Of course these things aren't exclusively British. Nobody is saying they are. The point is, they ARE British (regardless of where else they may feature). Arguing they're not just doesn't make sense.

What's your point here?

Why not just move there? That would be quicker.

You should go. You’d be very welcome. Especially if you are white, say you believe in God and really don’t like brown people. Big up that Farage-twat and cry about how England isn’t what it used to be and they’d love you. Why wait? There is this thing called immigration. Oh …. hmmmm.

Dragonflytamer · 08/02/2026 15:53

Good to see Mcswinney go. Given he had Starmers full confidence at PMQs it was found to happen. "I have full confidence in..." the words no Labour politician wants to hear!

Haha I was thinking what with Trump the UK could offer to forgive and forget the war of independence and let the Americans back in with us!. They could be the 49th county of England.

With the added appeal Charles III is not the king George III was, and he’s less of a king than Trump I.

They’re just shops, aren’t they? Every country in the world has shops.

Believe it or not, there are plenty of non-Christian and/or non-white (and even brown) people living in America that are living happy and prosperous lives.

Edited

Not just shops, but sure, and how very, very stupid to put in place economic policies that make it harder for them to employ people and thrive 🤦‍♀️

But in any case, what's your point here?

HesseWeisseSchokolade · 08/02/2026 17:52

CarbonAndCode · 08/02/2026 00:01

The idea that Gordon Brown’s gold sale was “criminal” has become a kind of folk tale, but it doesn’t survive contact with basic economics.

The UK runs a fiat currency, meaning the value of the pound is not tied to gold reserves and hasn’t been since 1931. At the time of the sale, gold made up less than 0.5% of the UK’s total national wealth, and even today the UK holds around 310 tonnes, which is perfectly normal for an advanced economy. Countries like Canada have sold 100% of their gold reserves and remain economically stable. Australia, Switzerland, and the Netherlands have all sold large portions of their reserves without any impact on their currency or solvency.

The sale itself amounted to roughly 395 tonnes over several years — a rounding error in macroeconomic terms. Yes, gold prices rose later, but that’s not the same as it being economically significant. It didn’t threaten the pound, it didn’t destabilise the economy, and it certainly didn’t “surpass everything” that has happened since. It was a routine reserve‑management decision that critics have mythologised far beyond its actual importance.

Sure, it only cost us the taxpayer tens of billions of pounds. A mere bagatelle.

Add to that the 2-tier policing and justice system. Persecution of free speech and "thought crimes".

Vivienne1000 · 08/02/2026 09:09

Oh pipe down. Do you personally know people working in the City or government at that time?
He had been sacked twice before. Starmer knew of his relationship with a paedophile. Is that not enough? Stop firing insults and sticking up for powerful men. I am assuming you don’t read any papers - you are oblivious to anything going on.

No i want and who the xxxx are you to tell me to? & not when people like post things that aren't true

Do you know people who work in the 'city? i actually did use to work in the 'city...

You don't like being pulled up for posting nonsense.

Blair, Campbell and Mandelson...exercising control over other people by sinister means....the spin doctors.

Yep. They brought rule by propaganda back. Cameron topped it with ‘nudge’… manipulation and control. Free speech and informed consent were killed back then and democra y with them.
