Keir starmer is dead in the water

Bertiebiscuit · 04/02/2026 22:21

The UK cannot have a prime minister who gave a plum job to a man when all the time he knew that Mandelson was still close friends with an ex-con who was convicted for trafficking children for sexual abuse. Starmer is destroying the reputation of the UK, he is an embarrassment and shoukd resign, if not the Labour party should demand his resignation.

Rumours are already circulating tonight about KS resignation. Time will tell how long he lasts but I don't think he'll survive past the May elections.

Just not sure who will replace him. Burnham isn't an MP, so Jess Philips? Certainly not RR.

Favourite is Rayner but pollster/bookie options included Burnham who hasn't a snowball's chance of being on the ballot.

Mandleson is dominant in the epstein files and Epstein paid him huge amounts of money

Dragonflytamer · 04/02/2026 23:13

Happyjoe · 04/02/2026 23:01

Did Starmer know that he did that insider info though? That's the important part.

Starmer did tell parliament today that he knew that Mandelson had continued to be friends with Epstein after he had been jailed. And despite all of the Epstein debate in the run up Trumps election, Starmer decided to do minimal vetting and appointed him to be US ambassador. Isn't that enough for you?

Happyjoe · 04/02/2026 23:00

I love how Starmer is held to account more than Boris was, or Lettuce, or Farage or.. loads of corrupt, lying politicians. Good old British press eh?

By the way, yes, all politicians should be held to a high standard and chucked out if fail. It's just the selective pearl clutching that pisses me off.

Yes exactly, Farage’s 17 counts of misconduct are ignored, his house in Clapham, his fiddling his expenses to the tune of 35k, his party taking Russian money against British interests, his not declaring his earnings over 300k.

They should all be accountable for their actions and held to the same standards.

Abouttoblow · 04/02/2026 23:14

There will be absolutely no impact on KS, Labour or anyone/anything else.
It'll be "investigated" for 5 minutes, there will be statements made about "not commenting on live investigations" and then it'll be swept under the carpet. Like everything else.
If you're expecting any other outcome, you're deluded.

I'm doing ok for myself financially but I wouldn't "forget" that someone sent me $75000. Especially if that someone was found to be leading one of the biggest child abuse scandals.

The crowd might stop baying for a rotating cast of prime ministers if only we could find one that was actually any good. Keir-no-idea flip flop Starmer (sits on the fence so much he must surely have a fence post up his bum) was elected because the country had had enough of Rishi Rich as Croesus and his Tory pals, and Rishi only got in anyway because buffoon Boris had to resign. And Boris got in on the “anyone but Corbyn”vote.
On the plus side, whilst they are utterly useless, I can’t say that any one of our motley lot of politicians are certifiably bonkers, which is more than can be said of certain other countries’ leaders at present.

For his faults, Kier is actually quite an intelligent man and we've had a lot worse recently. He's just not a larger-than-life character that we have become used to. He reminds me more of the Spitting image puppet for John Major tbh!

I feel sorry for him (apart from this outrage) because he inherited a completely f**ked country at a time where Russia being twats and now an insane man in charge of the white house and all the while having the British press hoping for his failure since day one.

I don't know if he is dominant in them is he?
He's notable certainly and here in the UK we're taking it seriously.

It's notable that the US didn't redact his name while they've redacted so many others who are clearly guilty of wrong doing - and of much greater wrongs. The result is that Mandelson is an effective distraction from the likes of Trump et al.

It doesn't lesson the seriousness or abhorrence of Mandelson's actions, but nor have they disclosed the details of those who are guilty of worse, which shifts the weight of public attention.

Trump is intending to ignore his own complicity while Europe looks into foreign (Russian) interference in its democratic processes. Takes the heat off him quite nicely

Bertiebiscuit · 04/02/2026 23:20

A prime minister who doesn't care about the trafficking and sexual abuse of women and children? Shames us all

It’s said about Starmer about once a week.

This might be the thing that makes him have to go but it could be salvageable if he gets rid of McSweeny.

If international reputation is what we are worried about getting rid of Starmer would be a daft move. He’s done a huge amount to improve the UK’s reputation over the last 18 months.

There’s scant evidence to support the view that Starmer has enhanced the UK’s reputation over the last 18 months, though it’s a line frequently peddled by the left. The broad consensus from the outside seems to be that he’s a weak leader with no vision or control of his party, and can’t be relied on or trusted.

And yet he remained because the british press is mainly owned by tories....... one thing I will say for Boris, he did the loveable buffoon act incredibly well, while doing his bit to destroy the UK and waste our money. He tricked a lot of voters and lowered standards in politics.

JennyWren5 · 04/02/2026 23:21

Rishi was handing contracts worth megabucks to his billionaire inlaws.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 04/02/2026 23:22

There is precisely zero possibility that Starmer did not know Mandelsons character. The man was forced to resign from Govt multiple times due to corruption. And his appointment as ambassador to the US wasn t incidental. He was all over this administration and right at the heart of Starmers inner circle.

None of them understand that taking bribes is wrong. They think it s normal. Or at least that they are exempt from the rules that normal people live by. Even now, Raynor still believes she can make a comeback having fiddled her taxes as if she was Mandelsons spiritual successor.

Fingers crossed that Keir is gone by the weekend.
