To think I should go to minor injuries?

DH says probably nothing! I am a bit concerned myself.
These are my symptoms:
Random prodding pain in upper back
On Sunday evening, I was driving and I suddenly felt a pulsating, deep pain in the side of my lower back. This came in waves varying from uncomfortable to a sudden shock of pain which would make me groan out loud, for around 5 hours until I went to sleep. Since then, it has happened twice but only for around 15minutes at a time.
I have also been having stomach pain, almost like a burning feeling on and off.
I have felt nauseous on and off yesterday and especially today

Should I go, or will they tell me to bugger off and stop wasting their time?!

Did you also have the usual burning wee sensation? I haven’t had that, so haven’t considered a UTI!

Could be kidney infection

Please dismiss people trying to diagnose your symptoms. You'd be as well casting runes.

You have to call 111.

Hopefully they'll give you the advice you need.

Agree, the Op says she has anxiety already!

Call 111, don't panic, you have managed to walk the dog so it can be too debilitating.

400rider · 03/02/2026 18:49

If you’re concerned call 111 and I’m sure the on duty doctor will give you advice. Otherwise pop into your pharmacy to get a one to one with the pharmacist. If they think there’s a problem they can fast track you through to your doctor.
Its not an A&E scenario and I’m sure you don’t want to be sitting there for hours only to be referred to your doctor

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 03/02/2026 18:50

It sounds like gallstone pain, which can be an emergency if your duct gets fully blocked. The GP won't be able to do anything, you'd need an ultrasound to check for stones.

UTC would be appropriate imo. Not least because it might not be gallstones, and it's chest pain!

DeftWasp · 03/02/2026 18:54

GP here would send you to A&E for severe pain, I would call 111 and take their advice, but for severe internal pain A&E would be totally appropriate.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 03/02/2026 17:58

Read the OP's updates, she tried to get an appointment and nothing until 25th

She clearly didn't say it was an emergency and what it was for obviously they wouldn't of given her an appointment on the 25th if they had the details.

MagicalBagPuss · 03/02/2026 19:12

Why not ring or look up online 111?

Shes been walking her dog so can't be that severe the reason a&e is so over run is because gps and 111 keep sending every patient there. Do you treat patients at all anymore or do you just send them all to a&e

I also don’t understand why you haven’t called the GP already if it’s been there since Sunday. Sorry..

I had this kind of pain for THREE years and my husband told me it was nothign so I never even went to the GP. turns out it was gallstones and I had to have my gallbladder out

LucyLoo1972 · 03/02/2026 19:27

Ignore your DH. mine said the same. I had these pains similar for THREE years and never event went to my GP. I have no idea why at the time I was sos self neglectful and felt unworthy even of basic health care. (I later on had a horrific psychotic breakdwon becasue id ignore symptoms fo anxiety and they said it was due to repressed childhood trauma and neglect. My husband always minimised everythign too so it made it worse because when I asked for help I was ignored.

I would have nights and nights when I was rolling round downstairs with the pain and he would ignore me.

Anyway I went eventually and it was gallstones and I had a gallbladder op but it can be dangerous if left and the gallstones get stuck in the duct

LucyLoo1972 · 03/02/2026 19:29

I meant to also say n the meantime avoid eating anything fatty becasue if it is gallstones that sets it off. I had the pains for three years but I avoided eating anythign remotely fatty.

have you lost any weight recently? mine came on after I ahd lost some weight

GUTTEDINSUSSEX · 03/02/2026 19:33

I was self treating for what I thought was gastroenteritis. Eventually went to a&e, i had appendicitis and had to have an urgent appendectomy and then got peritonitis (my CRP was 439). Ended up being hospitalised for 9 days over christmas, still recovering

Wegovy · 03/02/2026 19:38

Are you on any type of weight loss injections?
It sounds a little like the symptoms I was warned to look out for. If so, another reason to contact 111.

Forenspy · 03/02/2026 19:39

I went to urgent care walk in unit, they did a urine sample and said they couldn’t find anything in that, then basically dismissed me with back pain! It isn’t in my back/spine, it’s in my love handles Confused and my shoulder blades. They used a stethoscope on my stomach and said ‘it’s gurgling away in there!’ then felt it and said it feels fine to me. So now my DH is angry and saying we will go to a&e, which I don’t really want to do tbh!

Wtfdoidoplease · 03/02/2026 19:39

I had this and it was a kidney infection. I went to A&E and was given IV antibiotics. If I couldn’t get a GP appointment same day I would go to A&E personally as kidney infections can be bad if untreated as can appendicitis, etc. Shooting pains out of nowhere are enough reason imo.

User8008135 · 03/02/2026 19:39

Go to urgent care. Call 111 first and see if they can get you an appointment. It sounds much like my friends pains which was kidney stones one time and gallbladder the other two!

User8008135 · 03/02/2026 19:41

You really need bloods and a scan to rule out kidney and gallbladder with stabbing pain.

Shouldbedoing · 03/02/2026 19:43

Go to A & E

That's frustrating they didn't take any bloods. I would go to A+E if it is still persisting, they can do bloods and get an ultrasound scan at the very least to get to the bottom of things.

You misread or I didn't write clearly as in I mean GP here, in this area would - I'm not a GP.

But the GP doesn't have access in the surgery to any testing resources aside from blood pressure, weight, ECG - anything internal will need an Xray, CT, Ultrasound etc to see what's going on.

I have been sent to A&E by my GP with fairly mild kidney stone pain, I was at work when he called and told me to go to A&E, waited about an hour, had a CT within 45 minutes, stone found, referred on to urology.

In bigger towns where A&E is stretched that I can see would be an issue, but here A&E is generally quiet, 2 hours would be considered a long wait.

Both sides? Or on one side OP? Did they listen to your heart? Do obs?

Well, you certainly now don't go to A&E!! its been seen by a medic and they obviously saw no red flags, so there is no emergency scenario now, that's been checked - if it continues to bother you go to the GP who can organise tests if they think appropriate.

In the lower area it’s on the left, up by my shoulder blade is mostly in the right side but occasionally the left. The shoulder blade pain isn’t extremely painful, it’s more of an uncomfortable feeling of someone prodding me with their finger! They just took my blood pressure and put a clamp on my finger

And the urine test - what did they test for with your urine?
