To think I should go to minor injuries?

DH says probably nothing! I am a bit concerned myself.
These are my symptoms:
Random prodding pain in upper back
On Sunday evening, I was driving and I suddenly felt a pulsating, deep pain in the side of my lower back. This came in waves varying from uncomfortable to a sudden shock of pain which would make me groan out loud, for around 5 hours until I went to sleep. Since then, it has happened twice but only for around 15minutes at a time.
I have also been having stomach pain, almost like a burning feeling on and off.
I have felt nauseous on and off yesterday and especially today

Should I go, or will they tell me to bugger off and stop wasting their time?!

My DH has had very similar symptoms twice in the last few years. First turned out to be gallstones, and the second was pancreatitis. Pain was stabbing/throbbing in upper back, and upper abdominal pain on and off. You need to get to A&E if it’s severe or an appointment with your GP as soon as possible.

NHS111 and also... I've heard people describe their sciatica like that.

I have sciatica and it’s nowhere near that region. It starts in the lower back and radiates down the left leg.

PeloMom · 03/02/2026 17:39

Sounds like h pylori flare up to me but I’m not a doctor. Go get checked out

notallymcbeal · 03/02/2026 17:41

Did you ring your GP for an appointment or call 111? In our area (north east) we now have to go through online triage via the nhs app. In the last three weeks I've had two same day appointments through that. We also have an Urgent Care centre - out of hours this is where we are routed if we need same day care, although we can also just turn up and wait if we're worried.

Did you also have the usual burning wee sensation? I haven’t had that, so haven’t considered a UTI!

I had similar symptoms and it was a UTI, you can get a test at the chemist I think? At least you can rule it out.
also I don’t have have burning sensation when urinating.

HDready · 03/02/2026 17:42

Like a PP I’d also be concerned about cauda equina.

tiredlazydoesntmatter · 03/02/2026 17:43

Definitely get urgent medical advice OP .X

ShakyFridge · 03/02/2026 16:43

I mean, you need to go somewhere. It might be your gallbladder.

I wondered about a kidney infection with the intense back pain, but I am NOT a medic.

Definitely something to get checked as soon as possible.

The health facilities vary by region. 111 staff might be able to direct you to the closest suitable place @Forenspy . I hope you get some answers and treatment.

MajorProcrastination · 03/02/2026 17:45

Call 111 and they'll tell you where to go.

youalright · 03/02/2026 17:45

Well since you've waited until the gp is closing you haven't got much choice. I never understand why people wait until weekends and evenings to suddenly decide they want something treating

TheJustJoker · 03/02/2026 17:45

GP first, unless things suddenly deteriorate-then 111 or AAE.

Justwingingit2005 · 03/02/2026 17:48

I had similar and it was IBS flare up.

Does sound like that could be the issue.

Parsleyforme · 03/02/2026 17:58

I have had similar with kidney infections. No burning pee but weird pains and then sudden high fever, chills, nausea, joint paint. But this thread shows it could be a number of different things, I would call 111. I have always been given an urgent GP appointment when I say I think I have a kidney infection but I would want to go somewhere tonight

Read the OP's updates, she tried to get an appointment and nothing until 25th

stichguru · 03/02/2026 18:04

Call 111, but make sure you tell them what the GP said. It's not an accident or emergency, so shouldn't be A&E. It should be a GP problem, but given how far off a GP appointment is, 111 is a better option.

Nearlyadoctor · 03/02/2026 18:10

KimuraTan · 03/02/2026 17:18

@Forenspy Any saddle numbness on perineum? You describe needing to wee a lot. Any loss of bladder or sphincter control? Do you empty fully when you go?

I‘d ring 111 as I would want to make sure they check for possible cauda equina. This a serious condition. It’s a compression of the pudendal nerve. Please don’t leave it for more days.

Edited

OP hasn’t said she needs to wee a lot that was a PP. I wish people would read the full thread especially when giving medical advice.

OP ring 111 and they can triage you, point you in the right direction or maybe just put your mind at rest . That’s what they’re there for . Even as a medical professional advice cannot be given over the internet. If you’re concerned and you know your body best, get it checked out.

watermybegonias · 03/02/2026 18:13

My money is on gallstones.

NiceCupOfChai · 03/02/2026 18:17

It sounds like it’s improved from the weekend so why urgent tonight? Put a heat pack on it and contact the GP tomorrow.

Electricsausages · 03/02/2026 18:19

I would say gallbladder/ stones pain is left, front under ribs ( mine was) OP yours sounds like kidney infection or stones, hopefully you can see someone tonight

LiveToTell · 03/02/2026 18:23

Forenspy · 03/02/2026 16:51

My GP only sees you with an appointment! I will call 111

That’s normal isn’t it?

Whattodo2024 · 03/02/2026 18:27

Sounds like gallstones to me, having had them and my gall bladder taken out. The GP can arrange an ultrasound to see if it’s full of stones

CatNoBag · 03/02/2026 18:31

I had symptoms similar to UTI but, after about 5 rounds of antibiotics, it turned out one of my kidneys was blocked. I'd say better get it checked as soon as you can rather than guess. My GP surgery used to be useless for appointments (much better now thankfully!), but if you were first on the line in the morning you could get a same day appt.

Bluemin · 03/02/2026 18:31

Sounds like kidney stone to me. Not sure the GP would be able to do anything anyway as you likely need an ultrasound.

dreichluver · 03/02/2026 18:44

Please dismiss people trying to diagnose your symptoms. You'd be as well casting runes.

You have to call 111.

Hopefully they'll give you the advice you need.
