To think I should go to minor injuries?

DH says probably nothing! I am a bit concerned myself.
These are my symptoms:
Random prodding pain in upper back
On Sunday evening, I was driving and I suddenly felt a pulsating, deep pain in the side of my lower back. This came in waves varying from uncomfortable to a sudden shock of pain which would make me groan out loud, for around 5 hours until I went to sleep. Since then, it has happened twice but only for around 15minutes at a time.
I have also been having stomach pain, almost like a burning feeling on and off.
I have felt nauseous on and off yesterday and especially today

Should I go, or will they tell me to bugger off and stop wasting their time?!

I also don’t understand why you haven’t called the GP already if it’s been there since Sunday. Sorry..

Arlanymor · 03/02/2026 16:55

Definitely 111 so they can triage you to the most appropriate setting based on your symptoms and the available types of care services in your area. Hope it improves soon.

Forenspy · 03/02/2026 16:52

Did you also have the usual burning wee sensation? I haven’t had that, so haven’t considered a UTI!

No just a constant need to pee.

purser25 · 03/02/2026 16:55

Could be a kidney infection or kidney stones phone 111 I had kidney stones and it was very painful

SauvignonBlancLady · 03/02/2026 16:57

Could be early appendicitis? I’d call 111

WimbyAce · 03/02/2026 16:59

Call GP and they will either get you in or get an OOH appt. If no joy then 111.

HorrorAndHaagenDazs · 03/02/2026 17:01

111 / GP - sounds a bit like gallbladder (located on right hand side under ribs but causes back and shoulder pain)

Something sounds off though, and regardless you should get it checked.

Zanatdy · 03/02/2026 17:01

Could be gallstones. Call 111 if goes worse

TheFairyCaravan · 03/02/2026 17:04

Your GP has been open for 2 working days since Sunday. You could have made an appointment by now.

FeedMeSantiago · 03/02/2026 17:04

I've had 3 kidney infections and only had typical UTI burning feeling the second time. Symptoms for all 3 varied but back pain very noticeable in the last 2.

I would call 111 and see where they send you. It could be all sorts (Gallbladder/kidney stones etc.) So, best to be seen and get checked over.

HotChocCreamAndMarshmallows · 03/02/2026 17:04

Fluffy40 · 03/02/2026 16:52

I had very similar symptoms, it was a UTI. Call 111 for help.

I was thinking UTI/kidney too. Or gallbladder, as PP have said.

Forenspy · 03/02/2026 17:05

I tried to make an appointment, they didn’t have anything until the 25th!

Fair enough! I would call 111 then and see where they direct you.

RosesAndHellebores · 03/02/2026 17:11

I would call 111 and pending their call make your way to A&E so you are triaged and in the system whilst you wait for aomeone to call you back. If thwy say somewhere else, no harm done and you can go there instead. I suspect they won't though.

Good luck.

jannier · 03/02/2026 17:14

Did you try your GP yesterday? 111 are able to make out of hour gp referals as well. Grumbling appendix, gall stones, uti thats gone to kidneys amongst other things it needs looking at.

Forenspy · 03/02/2026 17:05

This is the kind of situation that merits the same day appointment that's what you should be asking for

AuntieMatters · 03/02/2026 17:15

I would call 111 and they will tell you best place to go

Did you ask for an urgent appointment and describe your symptoms?

Tink3rbell30 · 03/02/2026 17:17

No, this is a GP thing. Ask for a same day appointment.

KimuraTan · 03/02/2026 17:18

@Forenspy Any saddle numbness on perineum? You describe needing to wee a lot. Any loss of bladder or sphincter control? Do you empty fully when you go?

I‘d ring 111 as I would want to make sure they check for possible cauda equina. This a serious condition. It’s a compression of the pudendal nerve. Please don’t leave it for more days.

lljkk · 03/02/2026 17:19

NHS111 and also... I've heard people describe their sciatica like that.

Climbingrosexx · 03/02/2026 17:20

I'm no Dr but I really wouldn't be leaving this another night. Call 111 and get some advice straight away this sounds agony

YesSirICanNameChange · 03/02/2026 17:20

Out of hours GP - I had similar, no urinary symptoms at all, it was a kidney infection. OOHGP sorted it super quick.

God I wish. I've been trying to get an appointment at my GP for over a week now.

NHS111 and also... I've heard people describe their sciatica like that.

Sciatica emanates from the SIJ and is a different innervation to CEQ. I can’t speculate and OP needs to be assessed but the stomach issues combined with needing to urinate made me listen up. It’s much more serious than Sciatica.
