The Jewish Chronicle reports that a pro-Palestine mob branded Iranian dissidents “filthy Zionists” at a rally in London on Saturday.

Thousands marched through the capital in support of Palestine, with some brandishing placards bearing images of Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei and the words "the right side of history".

The Iranian regime has killed thousands of Iranian protesters in recent weeks, with the death toll exceeding 30,000, according to some estimates.

A counter-demonstration organised by pro-Israel campaign group Stop the Hate was stationed at the junction of Kingsway and Aldwych Street, where a large screen had been put up. Footage of torture carried out by Hamas and of the Islamic Republic Guards Corp (IRGC) attacking protesting Iranians played on the screen. Stop the Hate said it aimed to highlight how the "silence" of Saturday’s protesters when it came to Iran’s brutal crackdown.

A banner held by one pro-Palestinian demonstrator targeted Iranians who want the exiled Crown Prince of Iran, Reza Pahlavi, to return to replace the ayatollah. It read: "Pahlavi-supporting Iranians who stand alongside the Israeli flag are just filthy Zionists."

Another demonstrator called on the Home Office to "deproscribe Hezbollah and Hamas", while several banners read "Globalise the intifada" – an arrestable offence in Greater London.

One protester, who did not want to give his name, told the JC of his belief in the need for Palestinian "resistance" and attempted to justify the atrocities of October 7 by saying "Hamas didn't have a choice", adding that "Israel should have never existed in the first place."

When I saw images of the placards/flags mentioned, I thought the image was a satirical take on the moral bankruptcy of the pro-Palestine crowd!

These useful idiots have always been around though. Their foolish predecessors flag waved the Ayatollahs in in the first place. They learnt what fascism actually was while staring down the barrel of a gun. Before that they all got involved in the infighting Communists during the Spanish civil war, again, allowing real fascists to walk right past them while they argued about ideological purity.

It breaks my heart to think that Iranians living in the UK are seeing things like this.

The Iran regime hate Israel therefore are good. That's how it works in an extremely simplistic view of the world where your opinion of a country is decided entirely by its stance on Israel.

Israel is the world's only Jewish state so you can draw your own conclusions from that.

Put like that it does makes sense.

Support Israel = bad

All the words used about the war in Gaza and uprising in Iran and for some people, it boils down to this simple formula.

Filthy Zionists is a direct word replacement of the old anti-Semitic slur ‘filthy Jew’.

The anti-Zionist movement does this. It used to Jews who were accused of controlling the media, now it’s Zionists. Jews accused of controlling governments, now it’s Zionists.
Ditto everything else Jews used to be accused of, now it’s Zionists.
And of course, the ‘anti-Zionist’ movement has led to the murder of Jews in UK, Australia and America. As well as boycotting and cancellation of Jewish businesses and artists and individuals.

How anyone can claim anti-Zionism is not a racist hate movement is beyond me. How can anyone be so blind?

They are all contemptuous of ' mainstream media' while being completely unaware of the bias of the media they consume. Without the Iranian regime, Hamas is finished, so they are influencing Left wing media and cheering on the protesters. Abusing Iranian dissidents is a new ( new) low.

About 20% of the 34 people who have voted think I’m being unreasonable in being disgusted that Iranian dissidents are being branded as “ filthy Zionists”.

Can you explain why? Surely it’s a harsh thing to say about a group of people fearing for their lives at the moment or being killed for their beliefs?

YANBU, but it's not exactly surprising.

A lot of those pro Palestinian activists have a ridiculously simplistic view of right and wrong, and have decided hating Israel is all thats needed to be on the "right" side. Anything that doesn't fit that world view is discarded as fake or unimportant.

They often made comments about being “on the right side of history” on threads about Gaza on the CITME board.

Admittedly that is a very nuanced conflict and even pro Israel supporters can have a lot of sympathy for the pro Palestinian position on certain issues.

But regarding the uprising in Iran surely it’s obvious to any decent person that the demonstrators are “on the right side”. They are living under an authoritarian regime that abuses basic human rights and that has murdered thousands of their own citizens just for protesting.

All I can think of is that Iran is relatively 'advanced' (as they would see it) when it comes to trans surgery (which is government funded) and trans rights. They ignore the fact that this is because the alternative to being a straight trans person is being a Gay person, which is illegal, and you will likely be stoned to death.

Discrimination against gay people or trans people is equally disgusting.

Remember the same pro-Palestinians probably chant support for the Houthis (Yemen Yemen make us proud, turn another ship around) even though the Houthis are also objectively terrible.

I'm just pointing out one possible reason why protesters may have a favourable view of the Iranian regime. Iran has been put forward as a 'progressive' regime in relation to trans rights. Whether that is true in fact is another question. Trans surgery has been developed in Iran as an alternative to being Gay, and requires full genital reassignment. This is ignored in the West who just think they are great for trans rights. .
