To be disgusted that Iranian dissidents are being branded "filthy Zionists" in London rally

The Jewish Chronicle reports that a pro-Palestine mob branded Iranian dissidents “filthy Zionists” at a rally in London on Saturday.

Thousands marched through the capital in support of Palestine, with some brandishing placards bearing images of Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei and the words "the right side of history".

The Iranian regime has killed thousands of Iranian protesters in recent weeks, with the death toll exceeding 30,000, according to some estimates.

A counter-demonstration organised by pro-Israel campaign group Stop the Hate was stationed at the junction of Kingsway and Aldwych Street, where a large screen had been put up. Footage of torture carried out by Hamas and of the Islamic Republic Guards Corp (IRGC) attacking protesting Iranians played on the screen. Stop the Hate said it aimed to highlight how the "silence" of Saturday’s protesters when it came to Iran’s brutal crackdown.

A banner held by one pro-Palestinian demonstrator targeted Iranians who want the exiled Crown Prince of Iran, Reza Pahlavi, to return to replace the ayatollah. It read: "Pahlavi-supporting Iranians who stand alongside the Israeli flag are just filthy Zionists."

Another demonstrator called on the Home Office to "deproscribe Hezbollah and Hamas", while several banners read "Globalise the intifada" – an arrestable offence in Greater London.

One protester, who did not want to give his name, told the JC of his belief in the need for Palestinian "resistance" and attempted to justify the atrocities of October 7 by saying "Hamas didn't have a choice", adding that "Israel should have never existed in the first place."

'That Zionist Entity' massive red flag for the extreme conservative Islam Shia school of thought common to the Iranian regime, Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthis etc and still shocking to me to hear on this site.

The Iranian regime funds Hamas.
If the Iranian regime is toppled, Hamas will be in big financial trouble- they don't have many other friends in the Middle East.
It really is that simple.

Hamas are using their Western useful idiots to attack the Iranian protests- I would call the idiots morally bankrupt, but that would be assuming that they are capable of making fact based decisions rather than just parroting whatever slogans they have been told to parrot. They are an absolute embarrassment.

Not just hamas apparently...

It becomes clearer now though doesn't it with words like "filthy zionists" on placards.

Even "globalise the intifada" - they used to argue it was harmless but harder to expect anyone to accept that after Bondi.

Same, it’s all the regime supporters going “weeeellll they are a bit bad but just lift the sanctions yeah and everything will be fine right”. Well no because there are an insane number of people dead and an insane number of people in prison being tortured and will probably be executed. If you are fussing about some prince across the water and Israel instead of the murder of vast numbers of your own countrymen and women then I suspect you aren’t actually anti-regime at all.

Twiglets1 · 03/02/2026 15:52

Realistically the sanctions from the West are only going to increase not be lifted while this regime stays in charge.

They also seem to have access to the internet which many in the country do not apparently....

"Zionist Entity" is also in reasonably common usage among more rabid pro-Palestinian protestors to avoid the suggestion of Israel being a legitimate state. I've seen it used on MN a few times.

It is interesting to hear where they are getting their rhetoric from. Useful idiots indeed.

Yep. Often wonder if they have any idea of who exactly they are keeping company with.

Filthy Zionists is a direct word replacement of the old anti-Semitic slur ‘filthy Jew’.

The anti-Zionist movement does this. It used to Jews who were accused of controlling the media, now it’s Zionists. Jews accused of controlling governments, now it’s Zionists.
Ditto everything else Jews used to be accused of, now it’s Zionists.
And of course, the ‘anti-Zionist’ movement has led to the murder of Jews in UK, Australia and America. As well as boycotting and cancellation of Jewish businesses and artists and individuals.

How anyone can claim anti-Zionism is not a racist hate movement is beyond me. How can anyone be so blind?

In the 1930s, popular culture and higher education didn't disseminate Jew hate - that would have been unacceptable - they disseminated antisemitism. This wasn't religious discrimination, which was bigoted and uneducated, this was a new ideology which was progressive and correct.

There is no difference, they've just changed the name again.

BunfightBetty · 03/02/2026 19:07

'Just lift the sanctions' would be fucking nuts with this murderous regime in charge. Not gonna happen. If anything, the screws will tighten, if they can.

UK announces sanctions against perpetrators of human rights violations in Iran

  • Foreign Secretary announces sanctions in response to those who have committed human rights violations in Iran
  • ten individuals and one organisation designated, including Minister of the Interior, Police Chiefs and prolific IRGC members for their role in recent brutality against protestors
  • announcement follows commitments set out by ministers earlier this month to hold the Iranian authorities to account

The UK has today announced a sweeping package of sanctions, as part of work to hold the Iranian authorities accountable for a number of serious human rights violations.

Ten individuals and one organisation are today (2 February) sanctioned for their role in enabling and facilitating brutality and violence against the Iranian people, both in recent peaceful protests and previous events.

The announcement follows commitments set out by both the Prime Minister and the Foreign Secretary earlier this month, where they committed to bring forward sanctions to hold the Iranian authorities to account for its violent response to recent peaceful protests.

Targeted sanctions in response to brutal repression of protests in Iran

The Australian Government is today imposing further targeted financial sanctions on Iran in response to the regime’s horrific use of violence against its own people.

Since 28 December 2025, the regime has massacred thousands of Iranians while attacking and arresting many thousands more for participating in peaceful protest.

The regime has imposed nationwide internet and telecommunications blackouts in an attempt to conceal the scale of its brutality.

The 20 individuals and 3 entities sanctioned today include senior officials and entities of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) who are complicit in oppressing the Iranian people, violently suppressing domestic protests, and threatening lives both inside and outside Iran.

This announcement builds on the Australian Government’s listing of the IRGC as a state sponsor of terrorism and our comprehensive framework of sanctions against Iran.

Today’s action underscores our commitment to standing with the people of Iran alongside international partners against the Iranian regime’s egregious campaign of oppression and destabilisation.

The Albanese Government has now sanctioned more than 200 Iranian individuals and entities and more than 100 IRGC-linked individuals and entities.

”Zionist entity”. Telling.

Exactly, it would be absolutely bonkers to reward the regime by lifting them now, when they've carried out these depraved acts of mass murder and torture against their own people.

The internet is absolutely awash with antisemitism from Palestine supporters. Absolutely everything is put down to ‘Mossad agents’ or secret Jewish plots. These people are absolutely unhinged and some of the most bigoted, insane people I have ever come across. Of course, they’ll say they’re very left wing and tolerant and everyone else is racist
