Really disturbed by response to this horrible incident

Recently I was at Kings Cross. On my way to meet a friend. When this middle aged guy saw me and said something along the lines of “oh my god how beautiful, her face”. The two younger guys who he was with had to physically restrain him ans he was trying to walk in my direction. And they honestly were struggling. They were maybe 10 metres away from me but I was genuinely afraid. I’m 27 and incredibly active but only 5 ft 3. I was surrounded by people but worried I was going to be groped. Plus I really don’t like drawing any attention whatsoever if I can help it. Naturally VERY shy.

Ive recounted this incident to three people (all women of varying ages) and they’ve all mentioned the part about me being called beautiful. Like it’s a compliment. Ie that should be the takeaway. The man was physically intimidating to me! I was genuinely scared I was going to be attacked.

I just find this response very very depressing. Would the women around you not express sympathy if you were to tell them of a similar encounter?

OP hasn’t done that.

Ah yes.

I reserve the right to call out anyone who is being dismissive of a woman's experience of being made to feel unsafe because of the actions of men.

I make no apologies for it. I think it's abhorrent tbqh.

You reserve the right do you 😂

Well MN clearly disagrees with that! 🤣

I suppose being incredibly attractive must be really difficult sometimes 😔

She said 'active' not 'attractive' - I assume suggesting that she could probably have run away, but might not have been able to.

Of course. That's their prerogative.

And if it's amused you and brightened your wee day then how marvellous.

The joy of social media. The gift that keeps on giving. 😚

Was it someone with a learning disability? Were they his carers?

I thought this or even someone from one of the special hospitals on a trip home.

I'll leave you to guess my response.

I'm sure you'll be spot on.

LancashireButterPie · 31/01/2026 18:24

It's awful that people think you should be flattered by this attention. Mind boggled.

Who leaves AirDrop on anyway? 🤷🏻‍♀️. I’m not victim blaming, switch it off.

Also even when on you have to accept the pics it isn't just automatic, I'm not sure why anyone would accept pics through air drop on a train full of people you don't know...
Leaving it on is fine IMO because you need to accept it.. And how did he know it was her phone that had air drop open?? Something there doesn't make sense.

LancashireButterPie · 31/01/2026 18:25

Yes, Broadmoor, Rampton, Ashworth.

I hate to say it but he was most likely from a country where men and women probably do not mix freely.

This is racist.

No it’s not!

Yes, Broadmoor, Rampton, Ashworth.

I doubt they would be travelling by train though
When i was student mental health nurse I had a placement in the regional secure unit which was medium secure and a step down from the high secure hospitals
Any kind of leave had to Home office approved.

I’m glad someone picked up on my comment about AirDrop, rather than of accusing me of victim shaming 🙄.

He was probably just a chancer..so not targetting that posters daughter specifically, just getting his cheap thrills from doing it.

Xoxka · 31/01/2026 15:48

I don’t know how anyone can make the determination from the little I said/observed that he had mh issues. Many men don’t know how to behave. Regardless of background.

Im not saying he didn’t. Maybe he did. But many men without mh issues behave inappropriately to women.

Intellectual disability was my first thought as well. We have a social centre for adults with intellectual disabilities on our road and sometimes they are very clueless about things like this. The younger men ready to stop him sounded very familiar.

TheFormidableMrsC · 31/01/2026 18:33

@XoxkaI’m really sorry this happened to you and even more sorry for the women on this thread who have minimised and victim blamed and excused the behaviour of men. My own daughter’s experience that I mentioned here was one of many. Yet it was her fault for leaving her air drop on, not the fault of the fucking pervert wanking on a train. If anything like this happens to you in future, please report it. Don’t let anybody tell you it doesn’t matter 💐

Yes I’m fine thanks, my response was very much in line with your over the top allegation of victim blaming! It was more about educating of mobile privacy and safety.

Sidebeforeself · 31/01/2026 18:38

@TheFormidableMrsC My step daughter had a very similar experience to yours so I 100% agree with you.

Heggettypeg · 31/01/2026 18:49

OP, it might still be worth reporting it to the transport police. They probably won't be able to do anything about your incident now, but if he's a regular at that station and another woman reports an incident, it might help her to be believed if something else is already on file about him.

Sidebeforeself · 31/01/2026 18:33

Possible.. Still doesn't explain why someone would accept a random pic being dropped from a stranger... Also would have said their name so a male would have been obvious..
Makes me wonder how it all came about or was it just to be able to report.. Who knows but it doesn't make a lot of sense regardless.

Brightandblustery · 31/01/2026 16:18

Oh give over! Nobody has said that and I don't know a single woman who thinks those things are acceptable.

Maybe the problem here is that you jump to conclusions and patronise women. Good call!

Or married women tbh 🤔

If a man needs two carers to restrain him when he's out in public so he doesn't attack women, he shouldn't be out in public. I don't care what the reasons are. Women are not support humans and background cast for problematic men.

I personally don't buy that this was the case by the way. I live next to a community of adults with learning difficulties and trust me, none of them have 2 on 1 carers.

Oh yes you're right, because you haven't seen anyone needing 2 on 1 support, no-one does.

Plenty of disabled people need two carers. They are also allowed out in public, just like everybody else.
